is there any normal car in hong kong? :/

i think because the transport system is so good in HK, average income owners don't bother with a car, most car owners are higher income earners, ive never seen so many mercedes E classes over there. And of course Rue only take pics of hot cars so one probably thinks there's no normal cars in HK.

Maybe we need a new thread.

"Did you see anything worth less than a house today?"

You hit the nail on the head, only the well off buy cars. You would expect to see a lot of E-Classes as Mercedes apparantly account for 12.5% of the total market of private cars here (athough I would think it may be higher). You're right again, I don't take pictures of the more mundane cars here, every other car is a Mercedes or a Toyota Alphard or Estima.

Have any of you seen a Pontiac G8 on the road yet? I've seen probably 4 or 5 since the start of the month, I'll get a picture next time I see one in the daylight. I think the dealer down the street from my house even has one on the lot.

This phone=fail, but that was a pretty sweet BMW. It had matching decklid Carbon Fibre bits to match the front. Awesome, but the camera totally stole the beauty. Boo.

Rolls Royce is it the Silver Spirit II that has the smaller rear window? This one also appears to have Bentley wheels.

M100 Lotus Elan

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

I also saw this very weird Toyota. It is must be a special model based on a Starlet. It is badged as Remix, with what appears to be j aime la campagne (J likes the countryside?!? if my rudementary French is correct) inscribed on the rear wheel cover.

Anyone know anything about it?

Some stuff from lately:

The G-class cabriolet was never sold in the States and was handbuilt in Austria in extremely small numbers.

optra-020408.jpg

The Chevrolet Optra is not sold in the States (however a rebadged version is sold here as the Suzuki Reno), and Nova Scotia is a Canadian province some 1,800 miles from Atlanta, with less than a million residents.

On this Chinese New Year holiday I thought there may be some nice metal out and about, but in an hour of standing in the cold, I was pretty disappointed with the sightings to be honest. Here's the best of a not particularly good bunch...

But then we can't see the answers. :(

in that case I'll ask here... what's a Brit doing all the way in non-UK Hong Kong nowadays? Did you move or were you transferred? like it? Would/do you want to go back?

Rue's biography: ______

Came over in '96 for a month visit. Fell in love with the city. Out of choice, came back in '01 to work and been here ever since. It's a brilliant city. It has all the things that I love in excess and manages to remain fresh and exciting. The city just blows my mind every day. It's close to everywhere else in Asia, and, if you know how is cheap to live in. Basically (for me) it's just a great place to be. Wouldn't like to go back to the UK out of choice, though I do miss my family. Hope that answers your questions. I'll keep on topic with a photo...

...another Brit in Hong Kong...

Hmmmm.... that is definitely weird. I thought they sold it there in the US? (I check on wikipedia, and they did sell it in Canada as the Optra5) But these cars are common here in Asia. Nothing much really....... but I do enjoy the G-class cabriolet and the Z8. :)

Rue, nice shots as always. 👍 And also ( I know it might be late....) have a Happy Chinese New Year!!!!! May you bring good luck and fortunes during this festive season. :D

Oh my, Americans don't get the Optra? You're not missing a thing

Bland and everywhere. At least Mazda3s are interesting to look at.
