Went out to take photographs of our spectacular bridges. Instead, came back with photos of this:

DSC_2621.jpg

Beautiful photo!

A few photos from today. I missed out a very cool white JDM 2009 Civic Type-R, had a body kit almost identical to the Mugen version. Oh well, next time.

oh mAN the most awesome post in a long time Harry, some cool cars!!! the Bel Air has the panoramic roof option, very rare, and the unknown, come on man, its an unmistakable Studebaker Champion!!! and the one with the odd rear window, very rare model also!! the "TacoTaxi" stuff is smashing.

I really like the Sport Furys, very cool cars, I have never seen neither, awesome.

Thanks, and thanks for the ID. I didn't know where to begin looking at that, although in retrospect Studebaker is rather obvious. 💡 You may like today's post as well.

Campagna T-Rex 1400R

I posted a photo of this earlier, but it stunk. This photo is better.

Mini Moke

Come on! It's a golf cart!!

Volkswagen Thing

At least, I'm pretty sure that's what's under the tarp. Am I right?

Mazda RX-7 GSL ~1983

Second older RX-7 in as many days. Is someone trying to tell me something? Are we ever going to get a new RX-7 from Mazda, or should I by getting a Miata already?

Chevrolet 3100

I really tried to loop back around to get a better photo, but he was gone.

Chevrolet Corvette 1960

Caught him just before I got off the exit I needed. Had I missed it, I'd have another 8 miles to get another photo before the next exit.

Ford Coupe 1951

So close to the perfect 50's shot.... As far as I know, there are no drive-in's in the NYC metropolitan area (of which Greenwich, CT, just falls into). A McDonald's would have to do, I suppose.

Ford Mustang convertible 1965

Another wonderfully sited image. Country roads, open-top pony car, sunny day...what more do you need? Ironically enough, the couple who owned the car was across the street taking photos of...well, of what I don't really know, but they were looking opposite the car.

Ford Fairlane 500 302 1970

Not the most revealing shot, but I am sad to say it's being used as a work vehicle. I don't mean simple transport, I mean they had three 8' 2x4 beams going front-to-back across the passenger compartment. The rest of the interior was in typical, Chevy Astro-van, who-cares-its-not-my-car cleanliness. That would be less good....

Lexus LS600hL

I was beginning to think this didn't actually exist. I mean, who in their right mind would buy a lumbering, wafty, V8-engined, hybrid?

Lotus Esprit ~1980

Every sports car fan should own a Lotus of some type in their lives, whether it's a Caterham recreation of the Seven, or a modern Elise.

Dodge Viper SRT-10 RSI

I looked up 'RSI' and it appears to be a tuning company. If this is more than just an exhaust & sticker package, this Viper could have at least 800HP to run away with.

Aston Martin DBS

Seeing more of these, but that only means one a month.

Mercedes-Benz 280SL

I'm not sure what model it is, exactly. I unfortunately did not have the time to take a better photo (as is -- unfortunately -- often the case). I know that it's from the better era of Mercedes, though.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Who doesn't love twin-turbo V12's? Wait, what year is it now...?

Ferrari 430 Spider

The owner felt quite chagrined when I took this. He gave that grimacing grin when something is okay, but kind of tiring and annoying. I felt bad. This is why I am as discreet as possible with these photos. Not everyone wants to be in the spotlight; they may just have great taste in transportation.

Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider 16M

He actually pulled out right in front of me, passing across right to left. I was so startled I couldn't even get the camera ready in my hand. This is the only shot I managed.

Ferrari 328 GTS

I've been waiting over 5 years for this specific photo. Five. Years. You'd think it would happen more often, but that's the only Ferrari I've ever seen in that shop.

Ferrari F40

This is another car I've been waiting for, but not quite as long. Only 4 years. A friend had told me he saw 'an Enzo, yo!', only to have me kindly correct him when he described the unexpected wing. Over the last few years, I've photographed various cars in this cul-de-sac, including a Daytona, 575, Continental SC, and a Ford GT. All owned by the owner of the house just out of view. For the last two years, however, he leaves the best stuff in plain view in the street, rather than the driveway. I'm starting to think he's aware now and leaves them out just for that purpose. At this point, I should probably just ring the bell. :embarrassed: Oh, and that's a 2010 997 Turbo (not a 2009) sitting in front of the F40. Add that to his list....

Lastly, I have this: an unknown. I get a lot of these, I know. I'm tempted to say 'Auburn' or 'SSK' but I think neither is right. I'd love to know what it is. Any help?

Is there something about Elises and rain? I know there are a few Elises around me and I saw two of them today driving in the pouring rain. Which is strange because I've only seen them rarely this summer.

It looks to me like a roaded (mud guards, headlights etc) 1950's single seater racer. With the prices for genuine 50's GP cars so astronomical, i doubt many have been changed this way and those that were, there was a craze for doing this to obsolete (and therefore fairly valueless) race cars in the 60's and early 70's, will more than likely been changed back to original race spec by now. I'm fairly sure it will be a kit/replica in that case. But a rare spot all the same 👍

One of the classic car mags i read has a column by a contributer who owns a similar looking car to the one you photographed. His is a genuine (ex-Stirling Moss) F2 HWM, which in period had it's 4cyl race engine replaced with a small-block Chevy engine. There is a little bit about it at the top of this web page. - you can see the similarities.

Spotted this epic Chevelle SS today rocking some nice fat rubber out back. Sorry about the crap photo's my blackberry takes.

Volkswagen Thing

At least, I'm pretty sure that's what's under the tarp. Am I right?

Nope, not even close, it is a VW Type 4 wagon, way rarer than a Thing. I've seen two in my whole life. nice spot.

Chevrolet 3100

I really tried to loop back around to get a better photo, but he was gone.

Chevrolet Corvette 1960

Caught him just before I got off the exit I needed. Had I missed it, I'd have another 8 miles to get another photo before the next exit.

The 50 ford is very custom also, nice lowering, sideskirts, chrome, Caddillac wheelcovers, awesome car.

800-horse Vipers are OK with me.

oh please...

awesome post as ever Harry.

And ND4SPD, the 70 chevelle SS drag car is indeeeeeed epic, man, you should have gotten out of your car and given us every bit of stuff it had. awesome car.

lambo-johnson-fl.jpg

I saw this earlier today, but I lost the picture.. ;( Same color and everything, but I'm not sure if it was a kit car.. If I find the pic, I will post it.

These were the past few days actually.

Fahrenheit GTI, only 1,200 made

Dodge Dakota Sport Convertible, yea

IMG_7430.jpg

Audi S5? For some reason everytime I see this car I think its the first time. I'm not sure if there common or not.

IMG_7483.jpg

New Camaro, woo. This one though had a body kit and I wasn't sure it was the new Black or something else. I was next to an off ramp and everytime a good car came by my camera was off so all I ever got was backs of everything.

IMG_7486.jpg

It's a 49 Buick awright, and I think the Loretta has something to do with the owner... the internet said so. Certainly, it is not the model name.

And the Dakota ragtop roxorz!!

OK, after a long absence due to finishing posting all of the pictures uploaded in my photobucket, Im SO back with more than 500 picturesm anbd more than 2 gygs of MORE pics in the works. This will be a long one, so hold on to your boots.

All the coming posts are from very very recent sightings, and there are less abandoned cars and more that work, and some very cool ones, so you may like my posts more. Still, rust is rust and will always be omnipresent in my posts. That said, lest begin.

These two porsches are not my spots, but were given to me by a friend who got them in the highway with his cellphone. Hey, it’s the intention what counts.
img112.jpg

This 911 looks pretty outlandish!
img114.jpg

Found this clean Caribe GT/Golf GTI MKI everywhere else while photoshooting a Barracuda and just had to take it. It was sanitary and well styled, with what seem to be Fittipaldi wheels and in quite good shape. The difference between the mexican Caribe GT and the world-round GTI is that the aztec models lack the fuel injection, it had a two-barrel carb and made 90 hp.
IMG_0732.jpg

CHECK
THIS
OUT!!!!!!!!!!!1
A very cool attempt at a MASSSSSSIVE chop (just look at it, the view area is the size of a mail slot) and rattlecan flames on a 1953 chevy home-grown kustom rod. Its an awesome abandoned car, incredible!!! I did not take these photos, they were given to me by the editor of the mag I work in when he went to the local dragstrip to shoot a 9-second, 572 inch Javelin, and this was parked outside. I would have taken pictures of the 40 Chevy behind it too, and I will when I go over there. This car is way cool.
IMG_10872.jpg

A gigantic late-70s Lincoln photographed in a trim shop I freqent because of their exclusive clientele. Check out how in the rear picture it has bodywork marks on its body, and in the front pic it has all been fixed. Neat car, gigantic I say.
IMG_1377.jpg

Neat Renault Megane RS with big aftermarket whels and modified turbo, was in said trim shop for some reupholstery and sound system instalation, it looked nice.
IMG_1379.jpg

Tattered Maverick I found while waiting for another feature car to photograph. Its silver paint almost looked like bare metal and had Cragar knock-offs, but it was still neat.
IMG_1983.jpg

Ohmygosh people, check this out. OK, so you all know that original 32 Fords are RA-RE, and I mean RRRRAAAAA-RRREEE, even in the US... imagine finding a Victoria in Mexico streets, this is by far one of the rarest spots of my life. The car is absolutely destroyed, but it is still there and could do a very cool hot rod with the right touches. It belongs to a local do-it-all mechanic who has “upgraded” it over the years. Sad but cool car.
IMG_2445.jpg

When I was checking out the previous 32 I heard the unmistakable rumble of a V8 and no doubt, this awesomely restored 1967 Mustang hardtop blew by, wearing white-lines on stock styled wheels and eye-searing red paint. Very cool.
IMG_2447.jpg

Then this, another Renault Megane RS with cool aftermarket touches, too bad I was just too far away and in a car going th oposite direction to check it out. I did not have the S2 with me either, instead the XTI with the basic lens so no peek-a-boo close up, but well, you get the picture of the car pretty well. Fat tires rule:
IMG_2449.jpg

OK people, all european GTPers with a little knowledge in old euro stuff will have to help me ID this, because I have absolutly no idea of what it is... it has been stored inside a semi and truck parts shop for at least 15 years, just there, I remember passing by this place when I was like 10 and seeing it there and getting all excited about the “old car”; some months ago when I went to photograph a 65 Mustang around that zone, I instantly remembered and went to see.. and yes, there it was in all its forgotten glory. What is it? Im guessing Austin, but dang, I know I’m wrong. Toppolino? Anyway, check out how complete and rust free it is... or at least, seems to be.
IMG_3320.jpg

Around the corner of the unknown oldie sat this very very nice 1952 Chevy Suburban, very rare car to see in here, as they sold pooorly due to their elevated price. Nearby were three 1957 Chevys guarded by a pair of dobermans, so no pic.
IMG_3323.jpg

From same day, a very black Fox Mustang fastback whose owner seemed pretty intrested in my feature 65 Mustang and followed us for as long as he could. If the car didn’t have those tailights it would be cool.
IMG_3324.jpg

On the way to the location we passed this 1965 Mustang hardtop in a electric shop; when we were getting the pictures, it passed by us and honked the claxon.
IMG_3325.jpg

We were in the same place with the Mustang and this clean Civic SIR passed by and also gave thumbs up to our photographed car.
IMG_3664.jpg

This orange 1955 Chevy Pickup truck also passed by but in the other lane, I barely managed to somewhat get it:
IMG_3666.jpg

When rain and horrible light conditions prevented us from doing any more shots of the Mustang I convinced my dad (who went with me to the photoshoot) to search the zone for old cars; as he knows my love for rust he happily agreed and we found this common but way-cool-as-an-abandoned-car 1952 Chevy more-door in the first street we got in:
IMG_3676.jpg

The next street netted this megaawesome Dodge Power Wagon!!! The thing seemed to be in pretty good shape even tough it had its rough spots, its a really difficult car to find in here, I’ve only seen like three in all my old-car-hunting career.
IMG_3677.jpg

In another nearby street... ok, this may seem too common, but check out its extraorinarily good shape. My dad and I were fascinated with this 1981 Ford Fairmont Wagon and its pristine, all-original shape. Why? Because he had always wanted one and in fact had a black 82, which was the car I learned to drive in, it was an awesome family car, that thing took us to more places and trips than any other family car I remember. Sadly, it was sold, but this pristine red example sure brought out the memories.
IMG_3680.jpg

Abandoned Dodge Avenger, these things were never sold in Mexico but are now starting to pop in here because of the flexible laws of importing cars to Mexico that are ten years or older at cheap prices. But abandoned already? Come on.
IMG_3681.jpg

One of the few old spots that made its way trough here, this Renault 8 was rusting away in one of the main avenues around my neighborhood but has since disapeared, doubtless to a junkyard because it was just too far gone.
rtgfr006.jpg

When my parents had the restaurant one day this blew by and stopped in a nearby car wash, so I naturally followed it and entailed a conversation with the owner, who turned out to be a fellow student in the same Uni I was going. The car was pretty good but the wheels and stance were horrid. This car appeared ina featurette in the mag later on, not photographed by me though.
stang002.jpg

Interior was leather and vynil, with thumping sound system, engine was stock 289 with some lame upgrades, and the stock 3-speed manual.
stang001.jpg

This cool 1971 Chevelle was found nearby my old home about 7 years ago, it still had the I-6 but looked aaaaaaaaaaaawesome with the 5-spoke mags and THAT colour.
stang011.jpg

This post Valiant had some intresting clues, but the very intresting feature were the hoodscoops off a 1969-only Barracuda, an extremely rare part to come by... unfortunately it was gone when a friend and I tried to get them. Look closely at the front bumper... yeah, that is a tie. Got dang abandoned cars with guano rock so much.
stang014.jpg

Nothing rare, just a Ram Charger with a 360 small-block underhood, this could be a good donor to bring back to life, say, the previous Valiant, or countless Dusters, Darts, Scapms, etc etc. The engines on these thing run strong.
stang022.jpg

Oh man this thing was MEAN. When I was working at my parent’s restaurant, it was located in a seemingly endless straight line of pavement, so a lot of times we saw local cars being “tested” there... this car was one of them, a mid-70s Beetle with HUGE Webers and MSD ignition, among other goods that I dont really remember, it was like 7 years ago. The car was alarmingly fast, I saw it once at about 100 mph in the other lane, and was incredibly loud. It was AWESOME. You heard it long before you saw it, and you saw it not for long. Sorry for poor pic, had a crappy Fuji at a time.
vw014.jpg

I had already posted this late-30s Studebaker in a double-picture pic, but I somehow oversaw this shot of the thing showing its empty belly. Did you notice it’s being held up by a house waterpump? Pure Mexico. Thought you’d like (:
hfg006.jpg

You thought you’d be saved from teh rice? Think again, this time with this eye-searing Cavalier with the plastered fasciae, two-tone paint and Seat Leon Cupra wheels. You know you want one.
rt00h3.jpg

Enough of the comeback post, I’ll be posting here again weekly at least, so you wont miss the smell of rust and rotten interiors. Cheers (:

So lets say someone one went down there and took some of those abandoned cars. Would anyone care or do something? 'Cause by the looks of it you have a lot of cars down there that are begging to to restored and they just sit there abandoned, like that '53 Chevy.

Sorry but no. I was focused on getting cars I haven't seen before or see in lesser amounts. I'm sure I'll see an GNX in the next week or so, if I do I'll photograph it...although now that I said that I've jinxed myself.

all of them have owners, but they just dont care about them anymore. You just cant go take them, you'd have to buy them, tought most of the times you can have them for cheap... I recently talked to a guy who paid about 1000 dollars for a, get this, 1970 Dodge Challenger RT 70 440 convertible.

Any pictures, or a thread, with the Woodward dream cruise pics, Joey?

Oh ok. I always wondered because it seems like theres a lot of them around.

And Joey, That Motor Werks place was the best group of cars I saw in that area.

This weekend, on the Isle of Wight, I spotted a Lotus Carlton... The first I've ever seen in real life. It drove past a few times then parked up outside a pub I visited later, so I sat by the window. Only two people who walked past stopped to have a look, I couldn't believe it! Also my friends and I found a Marcos 1800 which was completely covered in scratches, a Baja Bug, thousands of bay window VW campers and millions of 1300S Beetles, in Southampton on the way there we spotted an F430, on the way back though, on Sunday, we spotted so much stuff! 599, Esprit, various old American cars (Plymouth GTO being the only one I knew or remember), two S2 Exiges, a few S1/2 Elises, a black NSX... The list goes on.

No camera to hand at any point during the trip, though.
