Long-overdue post because Id been busy as heck. But now, lets start with an array of rare cars. First, a concours-ready MG TF I think, absolutely no idea of year but it IS a real MG and not a VW-powered kit car, it is clearly evident, that and the fact tat the thing was absolutely pristine. Impressive.
Yeah, the Mercedes is incredibly mint too, check out those whitewalls, but what is behind it is incredibly cool and incredibly rare for Mexico!!! 1957 Chevy Nomad, I know this car, it appeared in the magazine I work for, its got a 327/4-speed combo out of a 60s Corvette and a nice street rod vibe with Cragar wheels, I think it also had 4-wheel discs too. Awesome ride. Nomads were indeed sold here, but only a fistful country-wide, as they were the most expensive model in the line. Finding one today is like a needle in the haystack.
1968 Vette with luggage rack and t-tops, Rally wheels too, in such a cool color. I wish I was closer so the pics were better. All four previous rides were in the surrounding area of the largest classic car show in the country, so that explains why all the awesome machinery almost together (come on, you did notice it was the same road):
Nearby., this GMC three-ton flatbed was just watching all the concours cars pass by, but I thought it was cool enough to snap it too. Hey, its in pretty decent shape.
Can anyone tell me what the heck is this? Its a car I had never seen before. Im guessing mir-80s Accord, but I dunno.
A mere Cherokee SRT8 is still a spot here, greatest parts car ever produced. Yank the engine, suspension bits, brakes and even wheels and slap them in a 70 Dart or 72 Mexico-spec Super Bee, and blamo, an awesome daily-driver street machine.
Cute little Fiat ragtop in decent shape, it could use some tlc to be pretty much perfect, and it is a very rare car to see around here. I like the black on black on black.
Aaaah YES, mid-80s Datsun Wagon, a bit lowered, stock wheels, questionable color but what the heck, it looked nice and, come on, when was the last time you saw one that wasnt half rust? Neat.
At first, I thought this was a Mexico-only Chevy Nova Rallye, because of the wheels, grille and other tidbits, but nah, it was just a normal V8 Nova with Rallye stuff bolted in. It lacked the hardcore 12-bolt rearend and ther stuff to be a real Rallye. Cool though.
Another deceiving car, this 1971 Chevelle had a very muscular look to it with the lowered stance, fat meats and slot mags, but it was just a 6-cylinder wheezer. Loads of potential, though, Im all for a big-block/6-speed/12-bolt swap on this.
I had already posted some lousy pictures of these two cars, they have been there for at least 5 years, but I suspect its been way more. First is a 65 Thundervird in incredibly good shape for being just sitting there, the vinyl top is good, the chrome is nice and all there, and the interior is just as complete, it has loads of potential:
The same cannot be said for this very very VERY rare little DKW that was rusted beyond belief, all covered in murky yellow paint. The only one I have seen and probably Ill ever see, it has a complete interior and even the original wheelcovers, but its so violently rusted it may be beyond salvation.
Cute T2 Bus with two-tone paint, white bumpers (it actually pulls that one off pretty well) and whide whites. It needs curtains inside, but no ones complaining.
Really well restored base-model Mustang, maybe a 1972. Its horrid, look at those wheelcovers. Grandpas car for sure.
Another grandpa car, but way cooler than the Mustang, even bein a 4-door, this gargantuan and very well kept Impala with wide-whites; maybe it seems cooler than the Mustang because the Mustang can actually be a good looking, aggressive car but in grandpa livery it is horrid, and a 4-door Impala like this one looks right at home. And now that I see it, its not even a Impala
OK people, double treat: This is a Mexico-only VW Hormiga (ant), one of less than 400 made, and really scarce right now. This is the only place where you will see live-pictures of Hormigas, so weep at this thing turned into a taco-dispenser (Hormiga Taquera = Taco Ant) and then shamelessly abandoned. Its sad, it s apiece of VW Mexico.
1966 Ford Galaxie hardtop in decent shape, a little rough but itll all buff right out. Ready for a 427 transplant and a 4-speed.
1975 Firebird Formula, complete with hoodscoops, horrid crash nose and what I think are Oldsmobile wheels. Indecently rare car here and very sought after, this one seemed to be full of potential, but I did not get closer because I was in a part of the city I do not know and I didnt want to chance it, but it sure was an interesting car.
This one was awesomely weird, its a Galaxie ambulance, and for sale!!! And it IS an ambulance for real, its got a stretcher (I know its not that, but I could not find a better translation for it, the thing where you lay the patients in ambulances) and the lights all work, its awesome!!! If it wasnt so incredibly unpractical, Id ask how much.
This next car is one of the spots of my entire life, and may be the most awesome European car Ive ever spotted, and maybe Ill ever. When I saw this Alpine I almost fainted.O talked to the owner, its a race car registered for the street (it actually races in the Vintage category, where it eats Porsches and Alfas), its got a 2+ liter engine with two Webers that makes 200+ hp, coilover suspension, gutted interior, 5-speed box, full cage, the works, and the guy runs the race tires on the street EVERY FREAKING DAY. Heck, he takes out the passenger seat and carries paper boxes for his business. I loved this car to death. And of course, Ill be shooting it for the magazine in the short future, so keep an eye on it. He also has a built, 300-horse Renault 5 Turbo and is just finishing a sick BRE Datsun tribute with the only 510 two-door Ive seen in Mexico.
I assume this also belongs to the Alpine owner, its always in front of his printing business.
Now, the rice!!! Check out
well, everything in this poor duster that has had Super Bee hoodscoops fitted and
well, the paint, the graphics, the wheels, the scoops and it not bein a Super Bee
its horrid.
As if having a Fiat was not enough
Crossbreed a Ka with an SRT4 and this is what you get, install the ugliest wheels ever and youre set.
