Digital Camera - Usable as USB Drive?

Hey friends. I got GT4 Chinese version from Pacific Mall. Before doing anything stupid. I want to know. It works to plug the digital camera in PS2 via USB cable? So what format does GT4 picture files use? My digital cam use SDram. It plugs in PC detects as USB drive. Thanks.

i have read something about that you can corrupt your files in this way so i won't do it if i were you.

I haven't heard of that, but I do know that some work and some don't. You can give it a try, but there's no guarantee it'll work.

You know now I wouldn't go there. I thought twice because Photo-mode kind of lame. but I encourge people to try if they got 2 cards...Incase one of them ****s up. But you can still reformat the card. Maybe. Bye bye.

I don't think it could do any damage - that seems highly unlikely. GT4 will probably just tell you that it doesn't recognize the storage device.

I used my Nikon Coolpix 3100 today and it worked perfectly. GT4 created a "GT4" folder and put the pics there. But you cannot view the files on the card using the camera.

Most cameras will only read a format that they can write. I assume the GT4 Photo-Mode images are a certain pixel dimension, JPEG quality, and color level, and the camera doesn't know how to interperite them. I've had the same issue with my Sony DSC-P10.

Coolpix 4100 works too...

The folder was made for me too. 👍

I tried it with my sony DSC F717 camera, its a 5.2 Mpixel camera and it was pretty expensive back in the day, dont work.

I find it fairly odd that it doesnt support SONY of all name brands. Shame!!! Too poor to get thumb drive.

As digicams and the photomode were never meant to work together, it's just a lucky incident if it really works, no matter what brand name or price the cam has. It's pure luck!

Has anybody tried using an mp3 player instead of a camera, not an ipod mind, as it only accepts wavs and mp3s and stuff, nothing else. But one such as a creative muvo, as i have a muvo tx, and i use it as a max drive, and it works perfectly.

My USB flash card reader won't work with GT4, despite the fact that the format it uses it JPEG.

It needs software to run on my computer so I'm not surprised.

Thinking of one of those 32-64mb USB memory key things so I can get some pics up on my site.

I was almost expecting the flash reader + memory stick combo to work, but yeah..

i have an Olympus D-380 2.0 megapixel digital camra. u can get one for like a little over 100 buck or less. it works perfectly with photomode. when u save it, it creates a gt4 folder in the camra. u cant view it in the camra but u can transfer it to the computer. it's great. i'm real happy mines worked.

since i have a HDD in my PS2, i have a way to connect to my PS2 via FTP

so i saved the photo's to memory card, then reset my PS2 and connected via FTP from my computer, and found two folders on my MC for the two pics i had taken

but the photograph file didn't have an extension

i copied them to my desktop and gave it a .jpg extension but photoshop didn't want to open them

any suggestions? :)

I've got a Dell MP3 player that also works as a storage device, so later today I'll give it a try to see if it works...as stated by someone else, I too am a bit poor at the moment to spend an extra $30-$40 on a mem. stick...but will if the MP3 storage attempt doesn't work. :)

I have an Olympus as well (C-740 ultra zoom) My question is what do you do to get it to work. What mode, when do you plug it in, how much space is needed and whatever info you can give is apprieciated 👍 👍

I tried my Sony Digital Camera, which when connected to my PC is a "USB storage device" (Dont have the model # as i am @ work), and it was a no go. I also have a HP USB key, and i had no luck with it. I tried formating both with FAT16 and FAT32. It made no difference. I will be trying a friends USB card reader tonight, its older, but i hope it works.

Can anyone vouch for USB 2.0 Memory Keys working with GT4?

I have a Sony 128MB 2.0 USB and it works fine. Bought it at Target more than 6 month ago for less than $30...

Oddly though I also have the "MAX Drive" 16MB flash drive that came with Action Relpay MAX and it doesn't want to work for transferring pictures. Wierd that one sold primarily to be used with the PS2 doesn't work in this application. It might be something about the formatting of the drive though, or maybe just because it's UBER-cheap.

[EDIT]
Actually, now that I think about it it works for transferrring save files to your compy, but not pix and the Sony works for pix but not save games. Wierd...

chances are the photos are saved in a different format on your ps2 memory card. looks like your going to have to fork over at least $20 on a USB memory stick, or try hooking up a digital camera.

EDIT No go using the Dell MP3 DJ 20 as a storage device...GT4 doesn't recognize it! :-(
