So, no "new" cars, at the moment.

Actually, I don't even care. Simply having more cars won't create the feeling I want in rally games, anyway.

The car list is already pretty impressive. Only thing I would ask for is 90's & 00's rally.

Looks like they don't yet have Mitsubishi, Citroen or VW licenses (yet), hence the gaps.

I assume they will get at least Citroen and VW for the FIA World Rallycross license, which will probably let them fill in the gaps in the rally carlist too....

Indeed, probably quickest way to get modeled content out there, however, a bit of digging on a video inside Codemasters' Dirt Rally creation throws up a potential car list. I'll list as many as I can so expect these to feature eventually:

Group B:
Lanica 037
Mazda RX7
Opel Manta

1980s:
Renault 5 Turbo

Group A:
Toyota Celica

Rally F2:
Vauxhall Astra Kit Car

Renault Megane Maxi
Seat Ibiza

Unknown class (Possibly just 00's):
Ford Focus RS WRC (looks like 2001 or 2002)
Subaru Impreza 2002
Citroen Xsara WRC (looks like 2003/2004)
Skoda Fabia WRC
Peugeot 307 CC (2004)

2010s:

Citroen C4 WRC

Rally R1-R3:

Citroen DS3
Ford Fiesta

Cough* PC master race Cough*

We know for a fact the more realistic racing titles are on PC. I'm not trying to give the console crowd an inferior product, I just want it to remain hardcore without too many console influences from previous titles. I really want them to change direction. I'm not trying to come off as superior to any who play on consoles and I apologize if I did, it wasn't my intention.

Have a look at the following video at time indexes 2:32 to 2:37:

What you see on that is, with about 75% to 80% certainty, the car list for this game. It includes Rally (RED), Hillclimb (BLUE) and Rallycross Supercars (ORANGE), all conveniently divided into classes as they would be in-game. Curiously they're divided the same way on what is playable right now (Group B 4WD and the 90s being now GROUP A, just like the wall on the video). Also, some of those kit cars you see there on the wall, like the Seat Ibiza Kit Kar and Peugeot 308 Maxi have already been said be on their way. So, what's on that wall is, most likely what's coming.

EDIT: Got beaten to it.

Loving the damage, got a puncture on that stage too.

Well I would have loved to give you guys a video but my game capture device has given up on me. May purchase bandicam and redo...

But I highly recommend this, it is really impressive already

Slightly off topic but a great video capture is PlayClaw. Test it out on Steam if you want, there's a free demo. Only thing demo does is put an annoying watermark on anything you record but buying the full version gets rid of it.

Thanks, going to do a quick try of both and hopefully will have this review for DiRT done asap!

I know a good average for the compression on that software to mix size and quality quite well so PM me if you want to know more about that.

Yeah, I get that. I just won't have the money for a PC, in the next few years, and I'd really like to get the first proper rally game since PS2, without buying one. Looks like, I don't really have a choice at the moment, though.

I have to admit, even though I'm happy with the current car list for now, the 037, F2s, and the earlier WRCs, especially as I really liked the two latest Evolution's WRC games, sound pretty cool things to have.

Ford Fiesta? hard to make out
Yes, looks like the same one as in DiRT 3.

I don't see a reason why this shouldn't be released on PS4/XBo later ...

Adding to the "Periodic Table of DiRT"...

The Doran Ford RS200 Pikes Peak car appears in the Hillclimb Modern car column (considering that it is a modern build and not a truly 'classic' model), and you can add Rod Millen's Celica from DiRT 1 to the Classic list.

The Rallycross Supercar list includes The GRC Volkswagen Beetle, a Skoda Fabia, the GRC Impreza hatchback, and I think the car in the bottom left corner is Liam Doran's X Games Mini Countryman (bottom left corner) that was used about once.

Some HD screengrab thumbs of said Periodic Table

The Millenworks Toyota Tacoma is one of my all-time favourite, um... I guess you'd say off-road racing cars, I loved it in Dirt 3 but I didn't like that you couldn't drive it anywhere you wanted and the physics were dubious to say the least. I'm super excited about that being in the game.

I'm actually half optimistic this may finally be the game to feature the 222D! Who knows.

Isn't it kinda ironic that Codemasters' best game since at least a decade, is a cheap early access rally sim?
I always said I'll support them as soon as they'll return to their roots. Bought it tonight and really, really love it.

Now this is something...even if it's Codemasters, it seems more legit than that Sébastien Loeb title.

I'm taking this as a sign that it's time to start thinking about getting a new PC. I don't even want to download 35GB to find out how well this game works on my laptop (below minimum requirements), much less spend $35 on early access for a game I couldn't really play.

I'd buy the game instantly if they did. This could turn out to be the next best rally game of an era.

Speaking of which, was going to purchase it but found my computer might just not be able to handle it. :(

There's a Swedish flag in the up-right corner of the card. I think it's safe to say, it's going to be in the game.

Half Saab V4 confirmed.
I noticed that, and I guess the codriver is gonna have to walk

Woo, my capture device has been repaired (though for how long I don't know!)
My short thoughts on this (which were meant to be in a video):

- Best Codemasters game since... at least ten years if not more... maybe 2003ish
- Force Feedback, whilst good is rather dull
- Steering wheel settings are typically codemasters, so make sure you make adjustments
- Sounds a really nice, you can hear what is wrong with the car when you crash (and you will crash :P)
- Visually pleasing, could do with touch ups here and there but overall quality is very high. Textures are sharp for the most part, but occasionally you see a texture glitch where something hasn't mapped properly. Lighting is a strong point in this, really has a nice colour pallete and night racing is very fun (until you smash your lights out...)
- Physics wise it is far more realistic than I expected. I would say it is close to full on simulation. But at points it is still too easy to drive, but the challenges of corners makes up for it. Suspension seems very stiff regardless of settings so maybe they need to look into that but the feel on the roads and the body roll etc all looks very nice. Not sure about anything on aerodynamics though, never looked too much at that. But I will do at some point. FWD cars feel a little off though...
- Performance wise I held a nice 60fps, with just one drop to 58 when I went through a ford, and that was with everything on high, 4x MSAA and car textures on ultra.

Overall, well worth the money and it is only going to get better and better as time goes on! For an Early Access game it is well built, optimised and full of features that make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience already!

I completely embarrassed myself at the start, lol. As AC and R3E veteran I really thought it was gonna be easy. It isn't...

It requires very different approach by not cutting the corners, since there are logs and rocks instead of curbs, obviously and you need to turn the car in before the corner. If you turn in late, you'll miss the ideal line and be forced to slow down a lot to make the turn.

I now discovered that default setup isn't good at all and by shifting the brake and diff force to the rear, hairpins can be drifted much better.

From Codemasters:...Once we have done that, if there is sufficient demand for the DIRT Rally experience on consoles, then of course we’ll consider that."
If the demand is sufficient? Surely they have been as, or even more responsible for the arcadification of console rally games than anyone else?

Not having a go at you Spitfire, it just struck me as being a bit, well...typical Codemasters.

I will say that it does look very inviting and I would hope that they do go as far as creating a console version too.
