Why is it that this always happens...?

Join a room, 5 seconds later, you're RANDOMLY disconnected for no apprent reason.

It isn't the host, as he/she is a friend or is out racing on the track. Internet is fine. All ports for PSN are forwarded.

Making a server is jus about pointless as I don't want to waste 3 hours waiting for JUST one person to find my room and join.

So....is it PD's half-***ed servers, or is it somehow magically my internet? I have NAT type 2 and apparently "high bandwidth" according to GT5, which I heard was good.

Yet I can't join my friend, who is at a 3-4 bar connection and is also at NAT type 2 without being disconnected right after I join? But I can get into other 3 bar lobbies quite ok.

What gives? Was online like 30-60 minutes ago, and now it's gone to ****....

i dont like it either. for me im using the neighbors wireless internet. recently it has been always disconnecting me so i simply change my settings to wired connection and it fixes itsself.

I'm on wired 24/7, only my iPod is on wireless, and I HIGHLY doubtmy iPod's interfering with my PS3.

Just another issue to fix in the unannounced patch...

ahh. well. i dunno then. because when i was wireless, i kept getting disconnected from my lounge ever 2 minutes. then i plugged in my ethernet cable and i got to do 6 laps around nurburgring before shutting off the ps3

There is no host in My Lounge, because the network type is Mesh.

This game has some serius problem online, just people tend not to care about it, until they don't experience anything bad...

Grab a computer on the same network.

Start > Run.
Type CMD and press enter.
In the black box that appears type the following

Ping google.com -t > c:\ping.txt

Go out for an hour. Get some fresh air.

Close the CMD window and open the ping.txt file on your c drive.

If you see any areas where you see more than 3 'response timed out' messages in a group of 10 then your Internet is the issue.

If you see areas where the numbers are in triple digits for any length of time your internet is to blame.

If it's solid double digits all the way through it's GTs fault.

I know there are utilities that track this. I know speedtest.net and pingtest.net claim to be able to test it but neither will monitor consistency.

You're using wireless internet, right? You might want to check for other machines around your playing area that use wireless internet as that might disturb your PS3's internet.

I was using Verizon DSL with a wireless router and had random periods of long conectivity and times where I could not log on at all for hours. I switched to Comcast cable with they're wireless router and have not been disconnected from the server one time since.

Man, that sucks. Don't know really because I've never had connection issues with GT5. I run cable internet and a Netgear router.

One important point to keep in mind with the P2P nature of the connections, is that it could be somebody else in the lobby with a flakey connection giving you grief. And in many cases, that's most likely what's happening. And the PSN is not very sympathetic to these situations either.

I can tell you that I run organized races, usually with full lobbies. Before every race, I ask everybody to go through the hassle of disconnecting their networks and (if possible) hard wire their PS3 directly into their modem. This gives everybody in the room a pure NAT1 connection and completely eliminates the possibility of nat negotiation failure. And it eliminates many potential bottlenecks and slow downs that could be caused simply because people have 'noisy' networks. By doing this, you circumvent any potential roadblocks your own network is creating but not necessarily manifesting themselves until somebody else joins the lobby with a similar problem.

I then ask everybody to clear their cache in the options menu, shut down their PS3 and restart. If people have the possibility to re-sync their modems first, it's also a welcome idea. These are extreme steps and you'll never have a bunch of random people in public lobbies taking these precautions. But I can tell you we've run races with a full room of 16 players, from various locations in North America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe & Scandinavia. And some of those races last up to 2 hours. And if everybody follows these steps, NOBODY is disconnected or booted, lag is minimal and it works very well.

I also have the benefit of a great ISP with 2-Mbs sustained upload speed and good DNS throughput and resolution and that probably helps with the general quality of the connections. I regularly do random ping tests to servers in locations where people I'm going to be racing are located just to make sure it's 150ms or under.

I think the compromising nature of P2P connections and the general flakiness of the PSN will always be an issue for playing on line with a PS3. And it doesn't matter which game.

I agree, the same problem is happening to me.

I came from GTA4, where I thought the servers were already at their worst. But then came GT5... Wired is not a very plausible option for me either as I like to play in my room.

Man, you all have to understand that some hosts internet equipment/settings causes problems with your internet equipment/settings, and that causes the disconection. I have the problems to some times, and just with certain hosts. The fact im living in sweden and play on US servers makes the odds even worse for me, due to latency issues. But I manage well allthough, no lagging, disconection etc on certain servers. On other servers I get booted after 30 seconds instantly. And it is always the same people hosting the servers that gives me problem. They probably have some NAT 2 settings that colide with my NAT 2. Then again, PD schould really fix this, it schouldnt be an issue. I played forza 3 online all the time, and it never disconected or anything like that.

jjaisli wrote something about it, that some players on the room can cause problem, and even if you havent got internet conection problem yourself, you can encounter problems though. One thing that buggs me though is that people complain about others conection, even though they might have the problem, or it simply can be the PD servers. Seriously, the PD server are bull...

I doubt it's your iPod either. It's probably the 25 different wireless networks and devices in your neighborhood.

My PC picked up about 40. Pick a dedicated channel.

I use wired all the time, and got disconnected three times while hosting last night... the last time being in the final straight of Nurburgring 24h only feet in front of two other cars that had been hanging with me through the whole track. I remember thinking that the race was so cool that I just had to save the replay. I was pretty mad.

Oh no! I am having the same issues and just did the ping thing and yes, I get many timmed out messages on the text page! Lots!

Can you please advise me what to tell my ISP so they fix it. I had this problem for over a year now and thought it was my PS3.

Hope this helps many people with problems

anyone have the IP's to PD's servers?

I'd like to ping them to see what kinda response I get

Assuming they're doing maintenance tonight though....

I have to agree, this is a huge problem with Gran Turismo 5's online. When I finally get a race I want to be in, sometimes it disconnects, which aggravates me to no end. Here's to hoping Polyphony fix the service in their next update.

ive just run that ping thing, now I've had no issues at all in connections. but then the only things on are my PC and the netbook.

meh must be PS3 coz it happened on red dead redemption a lot as well.

wireless connection does that to you, and if your router total crap it will happen more often. it will happen even more often if you are leeching something of the web while playing gt5.

wire your connection and problem solved.

need a really long cable for my connection :P haha I used to run my xbox through my PC because the router is in the other room haha then I wired a phone line through to the lounge and that didnt go to plan because the door ate it and split it :-/

im using wired connection, i get NAT 2, every other game i play works fine... but in GT5 i cant stay more than 3 minutes in a room before i get disconnected...

And yesterday when i tried to play with a friend in lounge mode i kept getting a 771 error... something about problems with the room owner. I didnt even have problems with GT5: Prologue so i dont understand why all this crap is happening right now.
