Hey, I really like the new Logitech wheel but the only thing I can feasibly mount a wheel on right now is a dinner tray =(.

Are there any DIY'ers on here that have built their own or found a reasonably priced racing set up?

When I got a DFP (old one) for GT4. My first race cockpit was my office chair and ATLAS book that had a HARD COVER. Playing on my knees really sucked, but it was playable. Year or two later I got a G25. For that I build Small desc that my office hair would fit under neath it, and had space for the shifter... It was not build solid, and always sway from side to side. Then I got Pleayseats Evo chair, worth every damn penny! so if you will not build a solid cockpit, buy one! worth every penny, as well it looks sooo sleek, and really comfortable.

Maybe you coud look in the cheap cockpit alternatives thread in the steering wheel and cockpit section, I know there are some quite good DIY alternatives.

i just built a cockpit from old unused boards/wood pieces.
Takes a day or 2 and screws, fairly easy.

I did a quick diagram of what mine looks like, you can problably figure out how i did it from the picture. The top pic is from the side, and the block inside the triangle is just a piece of wood screwed in between 2 pieces of wood to hold my pedals.

The top part is obviously for mounting steering wheel.
Diagram #2 is from the top, the block sticking out of the side is for a G25shifter (if you have it)

anyway, if you want actual pictures i could take some, but just a general idea. took me a day to cut/build and a couple days to paint.

Could try a 'wheel stand pro'... I have one for my G25 and it's excellent.

I'm building my own setup with wood I had at home and a car seat from the wreckers, I haven't built the table yet but it's going well so far, the seat is awesome.

I've got a pretty good set up. i got my seat from the scap yard aswell. The table's are easy enough to make but if you are using a car seat it's best to make a table with two leg's and runners at the bottom fo allow easy acsess. I made these instructions for a psn buddy a while back. just click the photo's.

My G25 stand can be found here. It is complete with drawings, so you know exactly how to make it. It cost me about 60 euros (~50 dollars) of materials.

Good luck building your own.

I made my cockpit in a weekend and it only cost around $200 which includes all the tools to build it. The only thing I got for free was the seat which I got from a car in my dad's shed and I already had the wheel.
I haven't taken a new photo but since I first built it I've added a shifting mount so it's more like a real car.
In the near future I also want to add a handbrake and other various buttons but modifying one of my old ps2 or ps3 controllers.

Try this one. I made it last year and it cost me around $20 for wood and hardware.

I used 2in x 2in pine for all the pieces and it's great, no sway under heavy turning but it's extremely light so you may need to weigh it down with something if you're rough with the wheel.

edit: did not see how old this thread was

You can see some images of mine from here. It was made out of pine wood and the only thing I would add to it is some rubber feet(diamond shaped) to help grip into the rug.
