I am a part time DJ and run a blog (just over 2000 subscribers) where I post mixes every two weeks or so. I have Traktor Scratch Pro mated to 2 Stanton Turntables, a Stanton Mixer and the Traktor X1. I also have FL Studio 10 and use it to occassionally make mashups or remixes to be included in my mixes. At some point I was going to upgrade to the S4 and get Cubase to replace FL Studio but I decided that for what I do, my setup is just fine. I enjoy it as it is and is that not the point ultimately?
In terms of music I make Lounge, Soulful House, Deep House and HipHop mixes. I am glad there are others on GTP that have been bitten by the music bug and will be sure to listen to your work!

My blog is at htt://www.keithmonale.podbean.com and unfortunately I have nothing in there over 128BPM ....

When I wanted to DJ in a club in town, I went to the manager, while the club was open, and asked if I could fetch glasses back in, hang coats, get drinx for staff, help the DJ load/unload for free in turn for being allowed into the club.
I was offering free labour.
No manager will resist if he likes your attitude.
Once you are in, you can slowly work your way into the DJ booth on a Friday, followed by covering for the other DJ when he phones in sick, followed by being more awesome and having more people come to your nights when you play, follwed by being the main DJ of the club, and demanding you are paid for it.

That sort of thing actually worx, if you are prepared to spend the time doing it for free in the first place.
In hiatus mixologist reporting in. Vinyl is my preferred weapon of choice.

Another route you can take: if there are any weekly clubs or events that you go to regularly, get to know the promoters. Just get to know 'em as people; attend their events, always make a point of thanking them for the evening as you're leaving. A good guest thanks their host before leaving a party, after all.

Once you've gotten some face-time in, and they recognize you as a regular, drop 'em a mix CD with your contact info on it. If they listen to it, ask if you can do a guest-spot some time.

I've just joined gtplanet and somehow my first post finds it's way to this thread! I'm a DJ, I use serato, vestax pmc07 (anniversary edition mars bar) and a pair of 1200's. I prefer the vestax but most shows will have rane ttm57sl mixers which are pretty good but I freak out with the extra features I rarely use. I've been stepping out of DJing the past year. I was on tour heavily for a few years with a couple of Australian Hip Hop artists, but now working on my own stuff. Was never heavy into club DJing. Did a few times but I've got bad ADD so struggle to stand there for more than a few hours. Was always into 2 hours of turntablism and cramming all sorts of music together showcase style and would mostly find myself opening up for acts.

Anyways, thats me. Glad this forum has some music heads :)

Nice post VEXD.

I used to be heavily into making music, playing guitar, piano, messing with beats.

These days I rarely put music on with the sole intention of sitting and listening to it.

I'm hoping the magic of music comes back to me one day.

Just a little update:
now i have something to practice on at home, we went half n half with mate and bought a pair of CDJ100s and a Numark Mixer, so that's what eats most of my time atm.
