Do you keep a ghost car on while TT'ing?

How do utilize the ghost car?

I usually turn off the line and glance at the track map. Sometimes I will turn it completely off when I find that i am grinding too much. Bumper cam all the way, since the beginning.

I leave my ghost off, in fact I hate the ghost, even the little triangle on the map, unless Im ahead of course :sly: but as for the ghost I usually keep it away so I can concentrate on the track and not the ghost. I liked the online feature which just told you at the split whether you are ahead or not, so if that feature made it to the arcade section I would use it. As for camera, I use the bumper cam, but sometimes use roof cam if its a Formula car, and I use the incar if its the caterhams or the gocarts so it varies.

Use Bumper Cam, leave on most of the time, unless i get too close and it blocks a clear view of the track.

Off 99% of the time. It gets in the way when it's slightly in front or right on top of my own car. I use the little arrows on the minimap to see how off I am to my best time. I use third person view when using the DS3 (nearly all of the time) and the (extremely) few times I break (brake?) out the wheel I use cockpit view (or roof view if cockpit has too many blind spots as in some race cars).

I am in the bad habit of toggling it on the straights after corners. Really, it's best to just lock in and run laps, But sometimes, you just have to know! :dopey:

Wow, surprised to see so many of you fast guys using bumper cam. I used that view for probably the first year or so that I played GT, then I tried the "full" view (not the cockpit view but the one that seems like it's from inside) and I started going faster, so I never looked back. Maybe I should try switching back to bumper cam and see if that's what I need to get to the next level :)

Oh, and BTW, to the original question, I use the ghost line much of the time, but sometimes I just turn it off to remove the distraction and see how I do on my own.

I use bumper cam with no ghost as it is too distracting for me. I go by the little triangles on the track map using my own best time.

I use bumper cam 99% of the time so I will only turn on the ghost occasionally as it makes it hard to see my "marks".

(Recently) I have found the hood and exterior cameras can be helpful to improve my lap times.

Examples:

I was faster and actually raced using the hood camera at Monaco. With the hood camera I could see how much space my car was using, in bumper camera I could not tell the exact border of my car and wasted a lot of track.

When I have problems finding the correct line through a turn, I use the chase camera as it gives a larger FOV. Once I find the faster line I switch back to the bumper cam and try to duplicate.

I like using the hood cam for learning tracks because of the larger FOV and being able to physically see the sides of the car, but I use bumper cam when I've figured the track out because I feel more connected to the car with it.

I can't use hood cam when other cars are on the track though. The lack of rear view mirror makes me into a very dangerous driver.

I've tried 3rd person and while it's great for seeing what's around me, I can't help but feel disconnected from the car; it's a lot harder for me to judge where the weight is distributed on the car in 3rd person. I really wish that I could drive in 3rd person though, it would be better than hood cam for seeing what lies ahead in unfamiliar tracks.

In forza 3 and grid 1, I used the chase cam. I made the switch to bumper cam in GT5 because the chase cam isn't very good to me. I may switch it back, but as of now I only turn my ghost on in the straights. If I leave it on I end up looking at it instead of the apex

Using ghost line most of the time and turn it off here and there even when i know it is distracting me, but i want to know where i stand and trying to find different-faster driving lines.

And i'm using the bumper cam as i need the mirror in sight, plus it's the only view, where the rev gauge is useful for me and also the suggested gear help is in the middle of the screen which is better than search it on the side of screen. The chase cam, which i used a lot in first parts of game is pretty useless now, when i use DFGT. Here and there i use the interior view just to feel the "reality", but never in the online races.

I know the last post was 5 months ago but thought I'd add my thoughts anyway. I lmost never use the ghost car as I find it too distracting...I struggle to get corners and lines right without an added distraction. I just frequently glance up to the map outline in the top corner to see whether I'm ahead of my ghost or not. I do occasionally turn the ghost on on final straights to see if I got a poor drive out of the final corner or sometimes if it is a short track and can't tell how far ahead I am

The map zooming option in GT5 was great for that. I had it zoomed in so far that the arrow on screen was about a car length.

I flick between on and off to see where I am,but sometimes i'll see the ghost ahead of me and think "how did he get past me ?" Then I remember that its me and i'm doing a TT and not a race :dunce:
