Do you think # of cars in a race will go up?

With a small lineup (and an unequal challenge from all cars), finishing a race at anything other than 1st place isn't the least bit gratifying.

On a field of 24+ competitive racers, I'd feel accomplished with even 4th place. It would feel more like a true race.

Maybe I'd feel different if the current 16 were all equally competitive, but hey, more cars.

I thought about today's FIA GT1 World Championship in regards to having only so few cars on the track. If GT5 had FIA GT1 proper in GT5, the action would seem authentic to have about 12 to 16 cars to the track. We all can agree that 12 to a track is MUCH better than 6 to a track in the past four GT games. I've been disappointed that not every race had 16 cars to it rather than the 12 we've mostly seen. Having 20 cars is a great number of cars. I have always seen 24 to be a great number. NASCAR games have had MANY cars on track at once. Maybe the only game or games that I've seen potentially well over 20-40 cars is probably certain SimBin PC racing games.

The greatest limitation would be on processing power and actually trying to keep everything running smoothly. If it were easy trying to get more machines to be on track at once, Tourist Trophy would have MUCH more than four bikes to a track (even considering it's operating off of GT4's engine). I don't think more than 12, or even more than 16, would be on the track at once with the level of detail GT5 has. PD would have to downsize the level of detail from a majority of its cars. You can certainly downsize the level of detail of cars while still being able to have many cars on track. Just look at the ToCA Race Driver games. I don't think we'll see any downsizing of detail, but if it helps to get more cars on track, so be it. I at least want to see 16 cars to a track for almost every proper circuit race. But if you can get more to a track, go for it. Put in lots of cars to make it feel more like certain big grid racing series.

One last thing I want to note... if you can put in more cars, you can add the possibility of realistic multi-class racing. Could you imagine 24 cars to a track with a certain amount of cars in different classes? GT5 has a maximum of 12 cars for many of its races. Having 24 cars would be like double the grid of a GT5 event. Another thing to consider is perhaps extending the length of certain races to be fair, unless you want to try to win a two-lap race at Tsukuba by passing 23 cars equal to your car's performance.

But to answer your question... I am not sure we will see more than 12 cars to a track. I'd surely want to see more.

For endurance races the number of cars should go up to 50 or more? Maybe doubling the amount of track cars from GT5 to 32?

Obviously, I think everyone would like the amount of cars on track to go up, including me.

It would be better if they were to go up to an amount over 20, we could see the introduction of class racing. Yes, there are slow cars on track now anyway, but there's no reward for racing against them. What if you could enter a race, (for example), and there are two classes - LMP and GT. There's rewards for either class, would you not now have incentive to bring your race to a lower class, while having faster cars around you too?

You might not be fighting for the lead but it would still be fun to enter your car at a lower spec, and still win prizes at the end of the race. So yes, I think the number of cars should go up, and I would expect it to.

24 is the key number because most of the racing leagues of the world more or less has that amount of cars in the grid.

Having in mind the possible specs of the PS4, we can even see more at special tracks like Nürburgring,Spa , Susuka, Bathurst and some others to emulate 6/8/12/24hr races.

I would also say we can even see up to 32/36 in some events and tracks.

I play on PC and if they do it well, we can have that amount of cars easily. (of course having in mind those possible specs without forgetting how important is for PD the graphics quality of the game and the 60FPS in race)

(a quad core with 4GB RAM, and a decent GPU can do this; and PD is the king when it comes to actual performance/quality despite the flaws of GT5 like shadows for example...)

ONLY IF they up the numbers of cars available from each racing category. It doesn't make sense to have 24 cars in a GT300 race if 20 are tuned street cars and WRC machines.
