I know it has been discussed before,
but I focused on this particular 'updates-or-not-question'

I don't know, but playing psp caught my attention to the fact there are a lot of 'old' cars with a new model now.
I really hope these will be updated.
Of course I like classics and different skylines (including old ones)
But I made a list of cars that I would like to see updated, it would be stupid to drive e.g. an old rs4 or s4... while the new model isn't in the game:

Audi A3 3.2 quattro '03
Audi A4 Touring Car '04 (could be replaced by the new dtm a4?)
Audi Pikes Peak quattro '03 (just a q7)
Audi RS 4 '01
Audi RS 6 '02
Audi RS 6 Avant '02
Audi S3 '02
Audi S4 '98
Audi S4 '03
Audi TT Coupe 1.8T quattro '00
Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro '03
BMW 320i Touring Car '03
BMW 330i '05
BMW Concept M5 '04
BMW M Coupe '98
BMW M3 '04
BMW Z4 '03
Dodge VIPER GTS '99
Dodge VIPER SRT10 '03

... The list is just endless...
There are cars too like the M3 that are already replaced in GT5P by the new ones... will this be done for all the other cars too?
I'm worried!

But there was already said they started from scratch for Gran Turismo 5...
And If we assume there will be cockpit views for every car,
why would they design e.g. an old focus st, an old s4, an old a3...

How can the A2 be updated? It was never updated or replaced.

I hope some of them at least get the new ones, though given the number of cars listed (both for GT4/PSP and the estimate for GT5) I dont think there are enough 'new' cars available to add new models for all the old stuff.

Looking at the PSP list for example there are only a couple of cars post 2004, and 2004 for most brands is the last model generation.

Theres a whole bunch of brands (including Alpha, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi) where all the included cars are a couple of iterations old (if I am remembering rightly, the alphas were all late 90s models!!!)

Much as I'd like to see these cars kept (for a start I'd rather not loose the Bora), I'd be very disappointed if for all these brands the majority of the range is old out of production models (unless your talking proper classics)

I think old models are important. They shouldn't be replaced. Just add the new ones if it's possible.

I agree for some models, because some are real myths, legends.
but for other ones.. like the audi a3, ford focus , audi a4, bmw 3, .. etc
I'd just like to have the new one.

kaz's ambitious are to build a history cars game with GT series...
how hw could replace old models???? dont't let me laugh...:banghead:

I really hope they update the car list a bit, mainly because I want to drive my car in the game. Seeing old and outdated generations is disappointing. I don't think they should get rid of these older generations though, there is a place for everything.

However I don't think a 2005 XYZ car should be sold in the "new car" dealership because it makes no sense. It should be sold in a used car lot.

But then there are those like myself that would rather keep the old and just add the new. IMO all cars should carry over to every new game with new cars added as they release(with DLC GT5 could last the entire gen). If that means 1100 or 10000 cars then awesome. Part of the excitement of the GT series for me is virtually driving a car lines history. Skylines are numerous in the series but I love seeing and racing virtually the entire lineage from the 70's to current and I want that with all cars. I love to see how vehicles evolve and change.

Good point, but what if you had to CHOOSE?
If it would be impossible to have AND the old, AND the new ones.
Would you want the old ones, or the new models?
For me it's pretty obvious.

To be honest it would have to depend on the balance and what type of compromises were made to include the newer models. Not all new cars are better and vice versa but some models can certainly be trimmed as we do not need to have every LS, ES, EX, LX, DX, GS, GT model of every car I do think the GT series would lose a lot of its appeal if at least 1 specimen of each generation wasnt included.

My opinion is yeah, i think they would be updated ( i doubt all specifications will be there, just some ) with some of the popular possibly rare previous/new cars. With exotic cars i think it'll go like this, more of the famous & maybe quirky race/road cars would be included like the Ferrari SuperAmerica convertible, Daytona coupe'/cab, AM DB5, DB5 Vantage, DB5 Vantage Volante etc.I guess the DB5 would have the Vantage spec option in the AM garage.I wouldn't mind driving some cars from the 50's era, and i doubt that a lot.As far as tuning/modifying goes this would be good if you could take a stock road car & make it race car with tuning &/or using a tasteful car livery editor to do as you please with. Also you could buy a manufacturers team race car, doing this could mean you can race for Dodge, BMW, Toyota, a privateer team or your own team.

Releasing gran turismo without a focus on the latest and greatest cars is just silly,
but PD seems to be pretty silly lately, at least with one of their games.

modelling new cars should be the priority, while older cars should be the 'I hope they include's or 'maybe in DLC's--not the other way around.

I hope GT5 will have cars from 2000-2004 in a "used cars early 2000's section":)

It would be kind of silly to find cars from 2002 in the "new cars section"

I think they will keep adding new models without taking off the old. Now if the list grows to were it won't fit in one disk then I suppose they would start charging for the older models in a separate disk to keep in your library. Now let's say they decide to re-write the whole game in a newer version that your past version cars won't work in. Maybe they can even start charging for DLC on the older cars if you don't want the whole list of old cars in a disk.

https://www.gtplanet.net/yamauchi-interview-reveals-more-on-gt5-development/
Read the whole article. Not just this snippet, but the whole article. The GTPSP cars that you have seen in GT4? Supposedly the modelling is based off of the GT5 models and then simplified to an extreme degree. Yamauchi's own words. You can disregard them if you wish, but those were his words.

"Yamauchi began to speak, first concerning the portable version of Gran Turismo, GTPSP. The first thing mentioned is that it was a challenge to develop something as big as a GT for a machine so small. They had to redesign many aspects of the game, and come up with new methodologies to take advantage of the technology of the handheld. It is this aspect highlighted in the ad-hoc mode in which the opponents play against each other in the same space, or “Party,” which can compete online with other gamers worldwide via a free application that is download on PS3.

He also said he was particularly proud that the modeling of the cars comes from the PlayStation 3 version and not previous versions. Clearly this aspect has been simplified so that PSP can represent them on screen, but that’s the only change."

Pretty much confirmation.

I think all GT4 cars should be in the used car lot and replacements modelled and put in the dealerships (like the 09 BMW M5..barely any different to the 04 concept but come on)

And the focus ST in GT5 should be the new model with the new light clusters, and the old model should be in the used car section...or in the ford dealership ALONGSIDE the facelift model

I voted yes, although I also think no. I think there will only be newer versions of a car if there has been a new generation since the last one that has been featured in GT4. No, because if they have a newer version(judging from PD's past) they will still have the older version.

I think some older models will be taken out for GT5 but they'll be back for GT6. Remember how GT3 only had like 150 cars or so when it debut on the PS2? I think the same will happen for GT5 but not to that extent. They're concentrating on getting the new additions done so they may not have enough time to update all the old models. I just hope they'll add even more older models like the older M series from BMW and cars like the Mitsubishi Starion street car, older Acura TLs, 1G and 2G DSMs and many more.:)

the old ones will have more polygons surely for gt5. and interiors i hope.

They don't just transfer GT4 renders to GT5 and say, "Done", like Gordon Ramsay. All cars from the old versions will be re-designed for GT5, advantage being you have the dimensions & statistics of the car.
