Yeah, not sure about that idea. Could be good for people who haven't finished GT yet.

You don't need to finish GT to have some very very good cars. Otherwise race in the slower events until you get faster cars, it will give you a greater sense of achievement when you get the cars you want then.

Yeah, but say if your friends were racing cars you didn't have, then the idea would be useful. Your right that you can get fast cars without finishing GT.

So say you're racing an Enzo, I'll just use a ZR1 (which I would strive to get early on anyway) to race you. I don't need to use an Enzo.;)

Damn straight, a time trial where you have to use standard physics, draft and maybe even wall ride to get a gold is crap, I still can't get gold in the M3 at Eiger

Funny you mention that. Still to this day I'll sit down and try for Gold. Don't know why I bother though:sly:

I voted for qualifying. I want it for every race. If you don't want to qualify you don't have to.

Yes, they used to have it and it was very effective. If you chose to do qualifying your best lap (and position) is what you started in. If you did not, you started last. Even if there is no qualifying I do NOT want to see rolling starts, they take so much away from the game. I want a staggered-grid start.

Rolling starts are perfectly realistic, although they probably should be staggered and more bunched up though.

I agree with that. The starts either need to be a stationary grid like Formula One, or a tighter rolling start like Le Mans. Currently, the first place driver gets 20 or 30 seconds before you get to go and the clock starts before you even cross the start/finish line.

Yep, the current rolling start system is pretty bad.

Have to agree with the need to change the rolling starts, its ok for the fast guys around but the slightly not so fast guys, like me,not so good to be that far behind right off the line!!

So i voted for, yes!!

I want the option to qualify for any race I want to qualify for, and for online races qualifying should be mandatory; even if you just qualify once per event update and use your best lap against others' best laps to rank the starting grid.
That's a good idea, where you can qualify in your car at any given time then when you enter a race it maps out the grid based on your laptimes in your cars.
This is a very good idea, not only for online but offline as well. You shouldn’t have to qualify every time in order to not start last, it should take your previous best lap (which it should save anyway) as your qualifying lap unless you decide to qualify and set a better time. If you haven’t set a time previously, you will start last unless you qualify

Absolutely so,just like real life. The faster you are,the closer to the front of the grid you will be.

of course ...
On some tracks it's difficult to overtake without bumping.. so..
running a qualification would be more honets

Yes, but as an option. It makes the most sense on long/endurance races and online.

Ehh... seeing as I can't change my vote and now i look like an idiot for voting no... i have to say... online it makes sense (takes the punters out of consideration, better drivers have a challenge keeping others off their tail)... but not offline. That's where the outlandish challenges like overtaking 16 cars in 1 lap happen.

They can make it so there is no qualifying in the challenges.

You can skip quialifying when dont want to do it, or when you want a challenge:lol:.

Absolutely, I want qualifying, especially if PD decide to stick with the current rolling start system. Like Paulie, qualifying for the shorter races is something quite important to me. I found it frustrating having to charge through a field in 3-5 laps, sometimes resorting to dirty driving just to get that Gold medal so I can feel that sweet satifaction of getting closer to 100% completion!

Qualifying for longer races is still just as important to me, just so it's more like a real race weekend, but I don't mind starting further back in these races because I'm able to fight my way to the front in my own time. And like previous games in the GT series, I don't think qualifying should be mandatory.

I think having qualifying in online mode is very important, it would add to the realism especially for those of us who would participate in online racing leagues. Also, quite often in online mode you might find yourself stuck behind a driver who is much slower than yourself, if we had qualifying in online mode the faster drivers will be able to have their battle without having to watch out for slower racers ahead.

Qualifying laps need to be faster. Im running the FGT championship with the Minolta Toyota currently, and I qualify for each race. Im usually about 4-5 seconds ahead of the formula cars during qualifying, but when it comes time to race they start cutting into my leads. Im get faster during the race because Ive already done two practice laps and I get more familiar with the circuit, theyre getting much much faster for I have no idea why. In actual races with qualifying the times are usually a couple seconds ahead of race lap times.

Not only do I both want and expect OPTIONAL qualifying, I'd also like to see PD mix it up a bit. Some series have a 10 minute session, do as many laps as you want with all cars on track and boom. Some series, meanwhile, have a 10 minute session, with the 10 fastest times set going into a V8 Supercar style 1-lap shootout to determine the top 10 spots on the grid. Other series still have 3 lap, one-car-at-a-time style qualifying. Variety is a big part of the success and enjoyment from a game like this.

This thread is a little silly really to any race enthusiast, it's like asking "Do you want the option of a manual gearbox in GT5?", or "Do you want cars in GT5?".
