It's not AWD because it would take too many sales from the Evo...methinks. Which costs about 10000USD more, I might add. They really would own the market with the AWD powertrain though.

Just got back from the Chicago Auto Show, and the new Caliber is VERY impressive. Size waise, it isnt much larger than the current Neon, but the Caliber makes much better use of it's overall size. The interior is roomy for such a short car, and that may be because of it's "wide" stance. My only complaint about the car was the cheap-ish materials that look high-class, but dont necessiarily feel like it...

They had SRT-4s "drag racing" inside the show (along with other SRT products), and the SRT-4 takes off awfully fast... Of course, that is mostly due to the 300HP rating.

...I'm tempted to give this one a shot even if it is not of the SRT-4 nature. Dodge did their homework with this car, and if anything, they have aleast gotten an A+ for effort, and maybe a B+/A- for execution.

GM has worked wonders with thier FWD cars with all that bhp, I think Dodge better have fixed it since they have no excuse to fail...I mean they have MERCEDES at thier disposal. Dodge has NO excuse making rubbish cars...yet they do. Sad really when you consider Mazda/Volvo has improved Ford by leaps and bounds.

Everything looked and felt great inside the Dodge, but as with the rest of the Chrysler-brand products, the dashboard material leaves much to be desired. From a distance, it LOOKS rather nice. Get up close and feel it, and you can see where they cut costs. The plastic has a really rough grain to it, and unlike what you may find in a Toyota or Honda, when you knock on the dashboard it sounds as though something is missing.

But, not everything is going to be perfect on a car that starts out a little above $13K. The R/T and SXT models that I checked out were at the level of the current Corolla and Civic in most situations, and if anything, the hatchback adds a lot of utility that the regular sedans cannot offer. I'm very interested in this car, and I can't wait untill they start to trickle into Dodge dealers across the country.
