In 1900, the two brothers John and Horace Dodge set up a company named Dodge Brothers. Their work was manufacturing engine and chassis components for big automotive companies such as Oldsmobile and Ford. However, the brothers felt they could build a better car themselves. Henry Ford made financial decisions that angered the Dodge's. They stopped working for Ford and in 1913 the brothers founded the Dodge Brothers Motor Company. The following year, they completed their first car: Model 30-35.
Horace and John built the Model 30-35 to be a high quality and much better car than the Model T's built by Ford. Although it cost twice as much as a Ford, it was more powerful, more modern, and ensured better quality.
The Dodge Model 30-35 is a very revolutionary car. Not many know that it was the world's first all steel-bodied automobile, the first car to be used on a test track and to be crash tested for improving quality.
The brothers were very proud of their company and John Dodge quoted: "Just think of all the Ford owners who will someday want an automobile."
