But yes, I do plan on keeping it forever, and if I win the lottery the first thing I will do is drive it to a good restoration shop and tell them to make it like new.

:dopey: Would you mind taking my dad's 65 mustang too then?? j/k

The 2.2 turbo Shelby Charger...

I forgot about the Goes Like Hell. Thought there was just an Omni-based and Shadow/Sundance-based Pentastar Shelbys.

Sorry, visions of 80's Plymouth Lasers slam-danced in my head.

So if people think the new Charger is sacriligious, what do they think of the mid-80's Dodge Charger that was based on the Mitsubishi Starion?

Such a vehicle doesn't exist. The only Chrysler vehicles based on the Mitsubishi Starion were the Chrysler Conquest, Dodge Conquest, and Plymouth Conquest. You may think I'm joking, but I'm not: the Conquest is the only vehicle to be sold under three brand names with the same model name and body (though it was never sold as a Dodge, Plymouth, and Chrysler in the same year at any point, and the body did change slightly before it became a Chrysler).

The mid-80s Charger was front-drive and was a twin (I think) of the Chrysler Laser, one of the rarest 1980s products around. I have a neighbor who has a blue one - that makes it one of two I've seen in the last five years. They also have a late-80s Taurus wagon, which they bought new (along with the Laser). This leads me to believe they're old. If they die, I'm pouncing on that Laser.

This is iffy, but Maven may have been thinking of the Galant based Challenger from '78-'84.

Plymouth Sapporo, right? I remember seeing that combo in the used car price guide, back in the 80's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they sell it as an Eagle Conquest for a while, too?

P.S. Doug, I downloaded AIM. I hope AOL doesn't load up my new laptop with a bunch of crap!

No.

(The Eagle Talon was a Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Eagle Summit was a Mitsubishi Colt/Mirage, the Eagle Vista was a Mitsubishi Colt, the Eagle Vision was a Chrysler LH-car, the Eagle Medallion was a Renault 21 offshoot and the Eagle Premier shared its chassis with the Renault 25.)

Nope, it was a twin of the Plymouth Turismo, and was based on the Omni/Horizon chassis ("L-body").

The Chrysler Laser was a twin of the Dodge Daytona ("G-body").

Eeep! Sorry about that, I guess I was mistaken. The mid-eighties Chargers and Daytonas are fairly common up here where I live...

:D No - the vehicle was cancelled in 1989 and replaced in 1991. Eagle's first year was 1988 and as Chrysler's performance brand they should've carried either the Conquest or its replacement, but of course the replacement was badged as a Dodge and sold until 1996 as the Stealth. Mitsubishi followed up the Starion in 1991 with the 3000GT, which was sold until 1999.

Eagle's performance car was known as the Talon, which was the twin of Mitsubishi's smaller performance car, the Eclipse, and the Plymouth Laser, all three of which were built in Illinois along side the 1988-1994 Mitsubishi Galant, which they shared a platform with.

Great - my AIM name is in my profile, send me an IM sometime!

Yeah, I could have sworn I knew a guy that told me he had an Eagle Conquest, but I do remember for sure it was a conquest--his mom drove it from Salt Lake to LA, and never checked the oil--fried the turbo.

That's one of those cars that needed a turbo because without it, it wouldn't have had the power to climb hills. I think even with the turbo it only made like 170hp.
