It really is a reasonable car, and is one of the best in it's class (2.0 coupes...). The competition it was launched against was the FIAT Coupe Turbo (2.0 V5 20v, Turbo-charged), the Ford Probe 2.0 and 2.5V6 and the succeeding Cougar 2.0 and 2.5/2.5X (the Mazda MX6 is more of a hatchback than a coupe so wasn't really a direct competitor, although being the same car fundamentally as the Probe), the 200SX (the only FR in the bunch), the Alfa GTV, the Citroen Xsara VTR and the like. In that bunch it may not be AS quick as the others (the FIAT was staggering), or AS well-specced as the Probe/Cougar, or AS much fun as the 200SX, but it represented a decent budget choice (it wasn't AS expensive as the others, to buy, run or insure). Now Hyundai have had the chance to refine the car a bit, it's even more of a good buy - it's better specced, marginally quicker, better looking than many peers, more reliable and with a fairly comprehensive - and 5 year (I think) - warranty.
Don't slate a car because of it's manufacturer - slate it because it's rubbish. The Hyundai Coupe isn't a rubbish car.
