The triple threat match between CM Punk, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will be the main event of night one at WrestleMania with Cody Rhodes v John Cena for the WWE title the main event of night two. It was announced after Smackdown in London last night and after the contract signing between the three. Its CM Punk's first ever Mania main event and he was quite emotional about it but he also said that it wasn't the favour he is owed.

We haven't really talked about this match on here so what do you guys think about it, I think its pretty interesting to say the least!

The hall of fame will now see classic matches inducted, the first being Bret Hart v Stone Cold Steve Austin from WrestleMania 13, the matches will be called WWE Immortal Moments and I think its long over due.

This Euro tour, and Smackdown in particular, has just clearly demonstrated that our crowds are superior and all events should be here. Oh if only we had the Saudi dollars.

ROMAN, ROMAN REIGNS! ROMAN, ROMAN REIGNS!

Raw is from London tonight and its the final show of the European tour that they have been on for the past two weeks.

Rhodes and Cena part III
IYO Sky v Rhea Ripley-women's world title match with Bianca Belair the special guest ref.
Gunther v Jimmy Uso
Bron Breakker & Penta v Finn Balor & Dominik Mysterio

I think the tour has been a success, mostly because of the crowds.

The Rhodes-Cena segment at the start of Raw was fantastic, they had a great back and forth on the mics with a lot of barbs thrown, there were references to Vince McMahon and Tony Khan, you really need to see it if you haven't.

Gunther battered Jimmy Uso and he made Jey watch, he won the match but he attacked him after. Jey tried to help out but Gunther used a zip tie on Jey on the ropes so Jey was helpless when Gunther busted Jimmy open using the title right in front of him and Gunther then continued the attack, Jimmy was sacrificed tonight!

I've said on some other places that I don't like this. I just always feel multi-man matches should have stakes to it (a title, progression in a tournament, winning something in particular, etc), and that hasn't been added to this - at least yet.

For example, Punk's whole thing is fighting to get into the main event of WrestleMania - now that he has it... what really is he fighting for? Pride and "I beat you" isn't really stakes to me. Any 1-on-1 combination of these 3 would make sense, they all hate each other in a way (though not as much Reigns-Punk, but there's still a story with a 1-on-1 match).

I'm not against multi main matches being entirely out of grudges and personal. Conflicts not being 1 on 1 is such an underrated form of storytelling and unique interactions can happen involving everyone just hating each other. I don't necessarily agree with the execution of this here as Punk and Roman beef is more business with the Paul Heyman love triangle while their issues with Seth are the personal one but the concept of multi man grudge matches isnt terrible.

My issue is the whole Main Event of Wrestlemania stick, they really buried the concept into the ground with the whole storyline and its had impact elsewhere amplifying the point in storyline for others and now complaining Royal Rumble winners aren't Main Eventing as like that hasn't been a thing since Wrestlemania 22 (and both winner not Main Eventing has been a thing since the Womens Royal Rumble was introduced) and it's only the Main Event of Night 1. Which personally I don't count it, theres still a whole other night of Wrestlemania to go which was already peoples problem (Punk included) about promoted multiple Main Events in the first place.

It didn't take Ricky Saints long to win his first title in WWE, the man formally known as Ricky Starks beat Shawn Spears to become the new North American champion on NXT last night, I think Saints has only been with the company for six weeks but his celebration was cut short when he was attacked from behind by Ethan Page, there were audible 'Tony ****ed up' chants as the show went off air!

Stephanie Vaquer is no longer a double champion as she relinquished the women's North American title, there will be a six women ladder match at Stand & Deliver to determine the new champ.

It has been reported pretty much everywhere today that Kevin Owens is dealing with a 'significant' injury, he does have a match lined up against Randy Orton at WM but that will clearly be in doubt at least, maybe we will know more on Smackdown in a bit.

Rey Fenix is debuting tonight too.

I hope Kevin makes it through, it must have been really bad. I'll have to look on their website for more information. I wonder if he's taking any pain medication for this injury.

I wish it was just unified and they dropped the North American Title (either that or the Mens). NXT is only a 2 Hour show with no leeway elsewhere, not enough for 5 titles, the NXT Womens Tag Titles was proof of that.

So Smackdown last night then, firstly the Kevin Owens news. He said he has been dealing with a neck injury for the past four months and needs surgery. It is sadly a legit injury and not storyline, the severity of the injury and the timeline for his return are both unknown right now, it means Orton is without an opponent for Mania.

Elsewhere Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton had a horrible segment which apparently went really far off script, Tiffany brought up Charlotte's divorce which has since been edited out among other things from that segment, Rey Fenix faced NXT's Nathan Fraser in his debut match and he won of course, it was okay without being great. Jacob Fatu beat Braun Strowman in a really good fun last man standing match, it served as a number one contender match and Fatu now faces LA Knight for the US title at Mania, Jade Cargill v Naomi has also been made for Mania.

We finally heard what that favor is that CM Punk is owed, Paul Heyman will be in Punks corner for the triple threat match and not Roman Reigns, I know it sounds mundane but it does add something to the match, how we got there last night was good too with Heyman once again playing his role to perfection.

The contrast with the internet fans constantly complaining about Rhea and rooting for Bianca and the live crowds doing the opposite is funny

Even more so when it hits the point of the story that Iyo Sky as World Champion is getting overlooked and needs to beat both

Three more matches have been made for WrestleMania with one match being amended, the three matches are a fatal four way for Bron Breakker's Intercontinental title with Bron, Penta, Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio. AJ Styles v Logan Paul and Rey Mysterio v El Grande Americano. the amended match is the women's world title match is now a triple threat with Rhea Ripley added, which has been coming. El Grande Americano is just Chad Gable pretending to be a luchador whose name sounds like a coffee brand, its good fun so far though.

Jey Uso gave an all time best promo to Gunther in response to Gunther's beat down on Jimmy last week, there were two title match last night in which the champs both retained, Lyra Valkryia and the War Raiders defended their women's IC title and world tag titles against Bayley and New Day, Seth Rollins couldn't help but get himself involved in the Punk/Heyman/Reigns thing.

So WrestleMania is next weekend and they announced the match cards for both nights on Smackdown last night.

There are as follows:

Night 1 Saturday

Jey Uso v Gunther
Jade Cargill v Naomi
War Raiders v New Day
Rey Mysterio v El Grande Americano
LA Knight v Jacob Fatu
Tiffany Stratton v Charlotte Flair
Rollins v Reigns v Punk

Night 2 Sunday

Bayley/Lyra Valkryia v Morgan/Rodriguez
Damien Priest v Drew McIntyre
Breakker v Dom v Balor v Penta
AJ Styles v Logan Paul
SKY v Ripley v Belair
Cody Rhodes v John Cena.

its 13 matches in total with 7 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday, I think that space on Sunday will be filled by Randy Orton's match as he still doesn't have an opponent yet. Following last night its looks likely that he will face Solo Sikoa as they fought in the tag team main event in which they both brawled in the crowd. There was some rumors before last night that Orton would actually face Nick Aldis and Aldis was not happy with Orton following the RKO last Friday, Aldis v Orton could still happen but it looks more likely it will be Solo.

Bayley and Lyra Valkryia won a tag team gauntlet match last night where they started first and lasted the whole match to win which means they now face Morgan and Rodriguez for the women's tag titles, it does mean that the women's IC title won't be defended at Mania which is disappointing, it looks like the other women's mid card title the US championship wont be defended on the show either. The WWE Tag champs the Street Profits will defend their tag titles against MCMG on Smackdown before Mania on Friday.

So apparently Tetsuya Naito is wrapping up with New Japan after Wrestling Dontaku on the 4th.

Considering his style of wrestling and age, could be fun. (AND PUT DOWN THE DAMN CHECKBOOK TONY KHAN)

Naito and Bushi leaving makes me wonder if they're still trying to figure themselves out again or if maybe the Tanahashi leadership isn't as strong as I would have thought...granted I've fallen waaay out of the NJPW loop so take my thoughts with a factory of salt.

I also imagine that once they are gone, LIJ will be possibly disbanded, but factions seem to move a lot easier in Japan so I don't know.

Yeah LIJ is very much up in the air. Personally see them carrying on for a spell under Hiromu Takahashi

(Side note: Little amusing oddity I've picked up on is New Japan's sister promotion Stardom is kinda doing something similar with Cosmic Angels)
  • Last OG member Tam Nakano is looking at a Career v.s Career and Title match when she challenges World of Stardom Champion Saya Kamitani on the 27th at All Star Grand Queendom
-Sidebar: Yes wrestling and retirements seems contradictory lol, but Tam's also nearly retired once due to injury

  • Can still maintain the cutesy surprising asskicking idol aesthetic under new leadership, could disband entirely, could do an Oedo Tai/H.A.T.E and rebrand/refocus

------------------------------------------------------

It was confirmed today that the opening matches of both nights will be the world title match and the women's triple threat title match. There are more matches on the Saturday than the Sunday but like I mentioned before I do think the Randy Orton match will fill the Sunday space.

Smackdown tonight will have a John Cena appearance, Street Profits defending their tag titles against MCMG and Andre The Giant Battle Royale.

Rey Mysterio had to be carried out after his match involving Rey Fenix, Dragon Lee and American Made, I didn't see how he got hurt or injured but he did need medical attention. He is scheduled to have for a match with El Grande Americano at Mania night one tonight.

Randy Orton has effectively issued an open challenge for Mania Sunday saying he will be ready and waiting in the ring for anyone, Cody Rhodes and John Cena face to face wasn't as good as the others they had before and Cody actually got booed a little bit, Bianca Belair also got booed earlier in the night. The tag title match went to a DQ once DIY got involved and the three will have a TLC match next week and sadly not at Mania this weekend.

The Hall Of Fame ceremony also took place and went fairly quietly, apparently it was quite short and concise.

To be fair on Cody Rhodes, he turned it around and had the fans cheer for him again during the segment. Which given how horrible the wrestling fanbase is, have to give Rhodes props for something most Babyfaces can only dream of.

The whole fan 180 really does put a risk in the storyline though. How is John Cena going to ruin wrestling for everyone by taking the title and be cheered for it, for the short term benefit? I hate to bring up New Daniel Bryan but it keeps being done so much better back then but when Daniel Bryan was at Washington who were die hard rooting for him no matter what, he played into it putting the fans in attendence on a pedastal while still being a heel by 🤬 talking everyone else making it sound like he has to talk to a global audience. Kinda like how Bret Hart was a heel everywhere except Canada

Bianca Belair has been booed by the fans in the past few weeks, might be a heel turn coming.

You can make so many different arguments for Cody or Cena winning, its probably the hardest match to call of the weekend.

They could have Cena address it and say something to the effect of "you're only cheering me because I don't want you to, just like you booed me when I was trying to be a good guy, this proves how two-faced you all are", which would cement his heel status and put some actual weight behind his reasoning.

But knowing WWE, they won't slay their greatest cash cow like that. So probably piped in/muted crowd noises while ignoring the reactions they don't like, per usual.

How I would do it is to have Bianca Belair turn heel on Night 1 during Naomi vs Jade to help build up her match in Night 2.

Though thats only if they plan to put the title on her. If Iyo Sky is winning then I wouldn't do that

Main Event of Night 1 was amazing, best match of the night but a minor picky complaint is that was definitely a heel turn for Seth and Heyman, framed that way, acted that way but if you look at the story, how was any if that that heelish?

What Paul Heyman did was the equivalent of someone caught in an abusive love triangle where both sides are causing him pain and misery (CM Punk was the better of the two in this regard but Heyman was being used that way to get to Reigns) and Heyman found a way out of a horrible predicament and empowered himself. Thats actually quite a positive outcome to the story.

As for Seth. Roman and Punk were both planning on doing the same thing with the Chair so why is it heelish when Seth does it?

Seth Rollins won the big triple threat match in the main event of Mania night one, Paul Heyman turned on both Punk and Reigns to align with Seth, it was a great ending and a great visual, it was also a great match and easily match of the night for me.

Three titles changed hands, Jey Uso beat Gunther to become the new world heavyweight champion in a really good opener, Jey actually made Gunther tap out for only the second time in WWE. New Day won the world tag titles from War Raiders but they cheated to win, Jacob Fatu beat LA Knight to become new United States champion and win his first title in WWE.

All this means that Tiffany did surprisingly retain her women's title against Charlotte Flair, it was more of a fight than a match with both women laying stiff shots on each other and it looked like Tiffy chipped a tooth, Rey Fenix deputised for Rey Mysterio but lost to El Grande Americano.
