I have mixed feelings: I liked some of the special events, but I haven't finished all of them.

It would be nice to see some things other than classic GT in GT6, so I'd like to see Karting and Rallye again. But they could also be included in the careers. I wouldn't mind.

Besides that I think there could be a Vettel challenge again and another Nürbugring special. And lots of people holding their thumbs for a return of NASCAR.

So, let's have more special events. Would be great to see some additions over time. And I would love to see F1 or something like Race of Champions with the X-Bows in game. F1 won't happen due to licensing. Same as for Porsche.

A redone Top Gear-challenge could have been fun, but rumors say it won't return, so does the GT6-homepage hint at this.

You're missing the point. Read the second half of my post again. What I'm saying is, there are good ideas in theory that don't come to fruition because PD lacks the time/interest to see the project through to completion. This is how you end up with the half-hearted implementation of the Top Gear license in GT5. Or Gran Turismo Rally. Or the whole standard car problem. That's GT5 in a nutshell; a functionally incomplete game, and the special events are a perfect example of that.
I definitely agree that GT5 is an incomplete game, for many reasons. However, I do not think the "Senna career" idea is a good idea, even if it covered all his seasons with full grids of the correct cars and everything. It's something that does not belong in a Gran Turismo game in my opinion.

When I play Gran Turismo (or any other racing game) I want to play as myself, so that it's my own career I'm experiencing.

Only if they are done well. And I'd say none of the special events in GT5 were done well at all.

Using the Senna partnership as an example, there's a lot that could go right or wrong and it really depends on how PD approaches it. We're all hoping for a mode like NBA 2K13's Jordan Challenge or Madden Moments, where the player is placed in key points and races over the course of Senna's career. You start in karts, and then as you move up through various disciplines you attempt to recreate Senna's greatest achievements, like Donington '93 and Brazil '91. The catch is, it will only be possible if Sony/PD puts effort in to secure rights to the teams and drivers of the era. And then of course, they'll need to model each of those cars and circuits. And suddenly, something that began as a great idea in theory becomes a massive undertaking that PD doesn't feel compelled to devote the proper amount of time and energy to. If they don't plan on seeing it through to the end, then I wish they wouldn't bother in the first place.

Where would we conduct Senna's karting career in GT6? You could use any real world tracks to create a Senna career, obviously the ones he actually raced on would be preferred, but Nurb, Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Monaco Monza, etc. would suffice for a real racing experience. But as of yet there is nowhere to race karts in GT outside of Kart Space which bears as much resemblence to a kart racing track as Daytona Speedway does to a road course.

I haven't completed the special events. Very annoying, frustrating. Although before GT6 comes out. I am going to try to complete it. It should not be too frustrating, grinding that people loose interest after n number of tries

What I really like about the special events is that they alter so many things with the game just to make the scenario exactly the way they interpret, and I think it is very cool. I'd love to see what PD and partners can do with a GT game.

Special Events will need to stay as standalone, as challenges - something ancilliary to the career mode. I say this as the only problem I see with including them with A-spec is that very few drivers in real life go for all disciplines - so that's a no-go really.

Polyphony needs to buy forza4, go to the community tab and just copy most things that are there.
The rival races and weekly/monthly community challenges kept me with fm4 for much much longer than I would've stayed if they had not been there.
The seasonal events in gt5 were 75% there but having those GOAL TIMES set by celebs or developers and better payouts would have made them that much more fun, for me at least.

I'm with you on that.

I fail to see how a certain person's name could make a game more enjoyable, but that's me.

The special events were great fun in GT5, so I'd like to see that kind of events again in GT6. They offered some variation from the standard A-spec formula.

They should have it, but not with the ridiculous prize money you get for winning. I could continuously race the 650 PP Nürburgring race and have a Mazda 787B in 5 races.

It would be a nice feature in Gran Turismo 6. I enjoyed the special races that Gran Turismo 5 had, especially the online ones as it added more things to do when you're bored of career mode. I also found the seasonals more challenging than the career mode races.

The special events are fun in my opinion. They are an extension of the licensing tests and fun but. I do agree with others that maybe they could be integrated into the game differently. For example, before starting NACAR or dirt racing you will need to prequalify.

The game needs more racing events, period. Or at least a properly structured online mode with regular and varied championships. Maybe even a permanent seasonal GT Academy for online only and to qualify to that you have to win lots of other structured championships. Just copy iRacing and their leagues and also real motorsport championships. Make people start with kart racing and small simple club events and move your way up to faster and faster cars and championships as you win (or at least come second or third) in championships and are able to buy better and faster cars and pass licences.

I expected you to explain why, but never mind.
I didn't think anything I explained would change your view as the situation itself is pretty self explanatory.
It's simply just an added incentive. People like showing that they're better than others. If you have arbitrary times, a la GT5 seasonal events, which PD just throws up there, the only incentive you have is to beat that time and get a reward.
If the same time is set by an actual person, you're automatically going to go after it just to show you're better than that person. Now if it's some Joe Shmo Nobody, then that doesn't have as much of a draw as a movie star, sport star, or even a prominent figure in the community.

Well said, that's the human psychology. 👍

I must add that I'd prefer to have a propper a-spec mode with championships, regional races, career (no story, just a decent progression), etc instead.

Amen to this.

This is what A-Spec mode needs to be...

Fair enough, but that's your opinion. I personally don't think it would be necessary, nor make the game more exciting.
