Does Mercedes have real "driving excitement"?

Some people say Mercedes offers no real driving excitement in the game. Maybe because they're heavy, or huge?

I disagree. Most of them are AMG and many have more than 300 horses stock. Some might say only several are boring, like the coupes or sedans (which, have more horses than some convertibles).

So yeah, that's my question. Do you think Mercedes-Benz offer any real in-game driving excitement?

Although some may say that driving a s2000 is much more rewarding, but in real life, I'll rather have an sl65 :sly:

Its true that the Benz dont have much driving excitement, but Mercedes do not build cars like bmw. Bmw is about the excitement of driving, while Mercedes is about the luxury and comfort of driving, which is something people cant feel in the game. Since in the game its all about driving the car to the limit.

So you think that if a car has a high HP level it makes it fun to drive?

That's not always true.

I personally feel that the only really fun Benzes in GT4 are the 190 Evo2 and to a smaller extent the old SLK.

I don't consider myself of being a supercar and luxury car fan, altho I love Audi's. Contradictive, doesn't it ?

Having said that, I had the chance to drive a few Benz and I wouldn't consider them to be boring nor exciting. Obviously, they are heavy, luxury cars are made to be luxurious, not for racing (even if it is built with AMG products).

As far as power goes, I agree they have huge amounts of power, but what is power when the car can't handle that power and can't be handled at that power on the track ? I don't choose a car for its power, I primary choose a car for the handling, I hate finding myself with an overpowered wobbly-handling car.

Conclusion is, people have different opinions and different needs. I'm indifferent toward Mercedez because they don't offer what I want BUT they aren't totally crap to me. :)

It all depends on what your personal definition of "driving excitment is" I suppose. Mine personally is a car that is amazing in all apects and can be pushed to the limit on any kind of road. I personally think Mercs are all steamrollers and have nothing to contribute in the handling department, fun department, or driver input department, which is why im a Bimmer man! :sly:

Yeah, mercedes are mostly luxury cars, not racing. So it would be better to own these in real life, but in a racing game, it's a big no-no. They are heavy too.

IMO, only M-B in the game that's worth of buying is the 190E Evo II. it's light, nimble, rev-happy and looks bad-ass, whereas rest of the mercs are lame and hopeless.

The SL65 AMG may be heavy (which gives it more traction), but with 999HP it's not bad as some of the so called 'sport cars', and can make excellent laptimes.

Sure, it's not exciting - as being on the edge and nervous -, but it's fast and accurate while maintaining it's comfort levels relatively well. Now THAT's amazing. 👍

...Bmw is about the excitement of driving

... yeah, they say that, with their "ultimate driving machine" slogan and stuff, but I've yet to get excited while driving a BMW, in game or on road. They've never felt sporty or different to me. I'd still like to try one of the M heroes though (E30 M3, M1, first M5 or V8 M5) just to see if they do actually get better as they get faster.

The Mercs I've driven (not many) also weren't exciting, but at least, as you say, they felt luxurious. Which made them different. In GT3 the CLK was one of my favourite cars because it had an agreeable balance. In GT4 I've yet to really fall for a Merc, but I have not driven them all.

It's interesting to see the range of opinions coming out here 👍.

One thing to bear in mind is that driving challenges and driving fun come in different packages for different people. For example, I really can't stand the LMP category of cars in the game and I'm not even much for the more 'normal' race prepped cars either.

One of the areas where the fun lies for me (as well as 200 A-Spec hunting) is in taking a GT/Sports/Luxo-Barge car and tweaking with the suspension until it handles something like I wish. Then I take it and try and find where the limits are and where the zone is in which consistency of lap times can be found.

For me, I find that the Mercs are a joy to drive because of the effort necessary to anticipate what all that weight concentrated at the front end is going to require of me to make it out of the next corner :D.

I just unlocked Sarthe II, which I love.

I got out and tested the Mercedes SL65 AMG vs. the BMW M5, in Arcade. The BMW performs better, but they're speeds were similar. I also got similar times, like a 3 second difference. I think they're fun to drive, and quite fast.

I really love the M-B race cars, the CLK DTM and the Evo TC. However, the road cars just didn't really do it for me. I drove the SL a bit, but it was too big to love. When I first got the game, I remember I loved to drive the E55 around. That is a pretty fun car, and it sounds great. I think I need to try some of the other ones so I can get a better idea of what those cars can do.

I'd say MB does a good job with what they do and that translates in GT4.
The 190 Evo does a great job for the small high revving segment. The SLR is possibly the fastest production car in the game. The SL55 has an amazing transmission and excellent balance for a car of its weight. The CLK DTM is one of the best DTM cars in the game. The CLK GTR is an incredible car that works well for making a challenging race out of races where the R8 and Bentley dominate.

All in all, I'd say MB does a great job of providing material worthy of being in GT4. 👍

Woah, nobody could've said that better. I love German cars, especially M-B

the DTM version of it is even better, it may lack the power of the other DTM's, but you won't be smacking the walls round corners!

sorry cheese but i cant agree to what youre saying here. The E55 sounds great??!!:scared:  :indiff:
have you ever heard a E55 in real life? Or any other 5.5 V8 kompressor engine in a benz?
In real life they sound awesome, everytime i hear one i start to drool :D, but in GT4 the E55 AMG sounds like a E220 CDI (DIESEL!!!) to me.

Greetings and Salutations Cyber Speedsters,
If thoust would allw an opinion of a former Benzo owner, I would like to weigh in here. I had the distinct misfortune of owning an 05 SLK AMG 55 roadster. While it was indeed an awsome performer, it was a most cantankerous mistress. I was allowed to visit said beasty at my local Benz dealership where it spent a total of 97 days out of the six months I was owned by her. MB electronics are less than reliable, the computer was always indicating some glitch or malfunction, and overall it did not represent a good value. The cachet was impressive, some one or another was always ogling the car, but ownership was an exersise in frustration. In speaking with other owners in the waiting room of said dealership, my experience was not unique.
In the game they are a marginal performer, and unless I win one, I don't seek it out.
Sour grapes? Possibly. But the cost of ownership is too dear to try a second time.

Eh, mercedes have never really done it for me.. with the exception of the 300SL. IMO Mercedes are designed by boring engineers for boring engineers, and theres no excitement to them at all... not since June 11th 1955.

Sauber....no one has mentioned that car yet....I think it's awesome...

Clk55 and e55 are nice little heavy but tourque is good. sl65 is sexy....the evo is awesome....mercs....they build solid cars...translates in game....not the sportiest....but far from the worst...and the 300sl is way ahead of its time.

Sorry to hear that Fangio, I own one (3 yrs now) latest model. It eats rear tyres (20.000 km) and my Satnav, the DVD unit (in the boot) was 1639 Euro, crapped out on me after 2.5 yrs. Fortunately they replaced it totally free of charge. So, despite that, I still very much love it.
Wrt the GT4 cars, they ooze luxury by their quietness (the normal road cars that is) they don't convey a sense of speed but they are fast!

AMG.

If a Benz isn't exciting to drive is PD's fault.

Truly I say to you the biggest problem is the sound. The cars sound like jetson mobiles for cryin out loud..

:indiff:

Yeh, I agree with the sound thing. :grumpy:
But as for "driving excitement" depends on the model of MB you're driving. 💡

For me theres only 1 Merc that decent to drive.
Thats the Mercedes Benz CLK -GTR or as its called in the game CLK LM (i think)
Its the only car in the Merc section that is fun-ish
Saying that Merc never really tried to make cars that were fun to drive as they always made big heavy luxurious cars..

Odd one, the CLK is a great drive, it's great dashing about in that, but generally the others feel a bit mushy, I much prefer the Audi's.

The MB race cars are a different kettle of fish entirely, however.

They're simply astonishing. When you finally unlock that elusive C9(On the UK version)... Oh god. *Droolz*

Ooh I completley forgot about the Sauber C9!
It is after all a Merc isnt it..
Thats it then, 2 decent mercs! Both designed purely for racing though!

I think being behind the wheel of a clk 63 amg 'black' edition would be pretty darn exciting. 0-100 in 4.3 is a bit of me..
