This is like a regular drift battle with a funny name. Dogfights should be reserved for battles of the aerial variety, ya know, planes and what not.

Dogfights? I call F-18! Though that really sounds like Battles... Why can't AWD join in?

Yea if u pay attention to Initial D when ever a episode starts and they are in the middle of a battle the episode will be called DOGFIGHT. AWD is powersliding

Dogfight is the song name from M.O.V.E, do you really have to drift? I prefer to go on the touge..

Strangely enough I kind of like the rules/setup of the OP...it encourages no passing on straights(a favorite of the public lobby crowd) and a dual set of skills necessary to complete a run(drift/grip)...I believe the replays of such battles would be very reminiscent of the actual intial d episodes...and that skilled drifters will really have a chance to show their talents beyond reverse entries and 160+km/h entry speeds..two limitations I see is that these battles will only be realistic as possible on toscana(change time)eifel, and mt aso custom courses...all as long as possible because limitation 2 is lack of pt to pt as opposed to circuit...but toscanas pretty good at that...the 'ring is nice as well at nite. I feel if practicing for battles as such will serve as as good practice for maintaining close distance during d1-ish battles

That's what im talking about.

Battles occur in the curves and not the straights. I think a way to ensure that no passing occurs, 2 runs should be done with each competitor leading.

One guy leads and the other guy follows, then switch. If no wins you keep doing it untill someone breaks.

But this isn't referring to series of curves like a drift battle(at least I don't think so, op plz correct me if I'm wrong) I think dogfight is exactly like how it is w/ airplanes, the objective is to stay behind competitor and force them to make an error before the attempt to pass is made..not just power thru...id even venture to say that the ideal run doesn't involve any passing unless the lead spins out or crashes....if the lead goes wide then follow 'em I say.....call it "capoeria drifting" as opposed to the more commonplace "jeet kun do" attitude that is practiced by most drifting competitions

You dont have to pass if you dont want to. If the leader goes too wide then that could be the perfect chance to pass. You can try to make a move and pass on any corner as long as you don't hit the leader, this way the leader is always on guard and ploting a counter attack. Then the follower might be forced to counter the counter attack. Which will make passing very risky.
