Doing donuts and spinning and I want luxury cars

the amp has a point there dude,

Its a driving simulator,...DRIVING SIMULATOR, Driving ok.

Yep, exactly my point. If I take one of my cars out for a time trial aroudn Tsukuba I'm on the track on my own. I'm not racing, am I? I'm driving...

yea, GT isnt just about constantly racing and racing and racing. It's meant to be fun too, and that also means exploring the possibilities of drift tuning etc, as well as just letting off some steam on economy tires at Motegi etc. GT4 is a sim, therefore it should simulate what happens when you turn the wheel and nail the throttle.

Forza is also a sim, and you can do burnouts and donuts in that. I can hop into most cars and push the throttle turning around hard enough and it will do donuts. I don't see why it's considered arcadey. People can do donuts in real life with their cars. It's not just a NFS:U2 thing. Forza has it, even Enthusia has it, Live For Speed has it.

If anything, you can't say that Live For Speed is an "arcadey" game, when in fact, it's probably one of the most realistic, if not THE most realistic in my opinion racing game out there. If I can do donuts in Live For Speed and Forza and Enthusia, then you should be able to do donuts in GT.

I've just had an overwhelming urge to drive a Toyota Chaser that isn't from TOM'S.

I want a stock one!

And a Mercedes S Class.

Futuredrifter, kind of try not to use shorthand like "ur" for "you're," "u" for "you." The policy is that we don't use words to suggest laziness. I'm not critical of this, but I'm just telling you unless someone else barges in here and tell you what's up.

Now back on topic. I'm not worried about burnouts and donuts on the road. If the next GT doesn't feature burnouts and donuts, I'm not going to get a childish temper or curse out PD. What can I do about anything? Absolutely nothing. If PD wants to touch up on smoke and skid marks on the road, then let them. If they can't do that for the next GT, then I'm not bothered because I want to go racing, not pull off stunts trying to get 100% for the next GT (or come close). Am I knocking the mention of doing burnouts and donuts? Did I? Okay, then. Vtec_guy kind of reinforces some of my points in Post #33. I still like the notion of a few more luxury cars. In GT2, you could race with luxury cars. GT2 had categories for many different types of automobiles, by the way.

In terms of luxury, I consider Aston Martin my favorite because AM's pack performance in addition to alluring bodies. If there was something like Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, more luxury Jaguars, or even Maybachs (like that Maybach 62 with 550hp that costs $375K!), it would enhance the variety of automobiles more than ever. If GT4 is any indication, we may see many more types of automobiles to meet the desires of many racing gamers. You want luxury, what luxury cars would make the best racing machines?

arg how many more times do those in the know have to keep on, you can do BURNOUTS in GT4!!
look! burnout!

look! stationary car, spinning tyres and hot brakes!

you can even do it in ff cars! you can even burnout in reverse!

what I meant by luxury is luxury sedans racing them against each other :) , and I would like to have burnout and smoke and skid marks its not something they have to do or I won't get the game :) , sometimes after a long endu race like Nurb 24H you get tired from racing you wanna blow some steam off :D

You can in high power cars, I bet you must have tuned or bought some power upgrades for that srt-4, the superbird could probably do them anyway. But there's no doughnuts, which you could do in GT3 without mods on a lot of cars. I think realistic amounts of tire smoke and tire marks left on the track would look awesome.

I can see it now, a Jag S-Type and BMW 6 Series drifting through the last corner at Grand Valley channelling masses of smoke out of the rear tires... awesome.:sly:

Im in the mood for some luxury car racing, JohnBM01 makes a good point, there were some great racing series in GT2, ill dig out my copy later and maybe list em in here. I remember a time when the GT All Stars Championship had the Castrol Tom's Supra, The Impreza Rally Car, and the Falken style Puma Skyline instead of just LMPs.

that's funny...Cause for the game being so "Spot on" and such a simulator.....
Why does the superbird have disk brakes?
or a racing chip for that matter, i would assume the disc brakes would be part of the upgrade package

In response to Stumpydino, I guess people want big smoky burnouts... you know, like us American muscle enthusiasts. Drag racing is so accessible here in America, so if you want some quick thrills, drag racing is your ticket. As drag racing fans, you'll see smoky burnouts before pulling off those 10s or 9s down the strip.

The only series I know of with burnout contests is the NOPI Nationals for the XBOX Cup. Usually on Speed, they show those burnout contests. One of the most popular burnout freaks is a guy whose sponsor is for the Whiplash DVDs. But, I think in terms of burnouts, people want big, smoky burnouts. Would I like seeing them? I'm not critical about that. A few puffs of smoke is good enough for me to count as a burnout. Then too, how many smoky burnouts do you see in actual racing outside of drag racing? So it's not included as much. But the Gran Turismo series has been all about simulation car control, not to mention being a nice lifestyle racing game series. That's why we sample the waters of burning out, donuts, drag racing, tuner cars, not to mention drifting. I can see WHY people would want and I quote, "real" burnouts. Apparentely, if a person can make a five-story tall pillar of smoke at a drag strip in real life, they should be able to do that in a Gran Turismo game. But to some people, they feel cheated and disappointed that you can't have this much fun. Again, I'm not critical about this. But as I say, account for everyone.

As an off-topic joke, if you want donuts, simple. Drive a rear-wheel drive car, spin out, repeatedly lose control, and BOOM! Donuts! You dig this Texan named John?

Well, the smoke isn't just about burnouts. In real life, if a car goes sideways on the track, it leaves behind it a huge wall of solid smoke. The drivers coming up behind them cross their fingers and hope for the best. GT has never had that kind of smoke. Hopefully, now that PS3 can do proper volumetrics, we'll see it. Who knows.

the thing I hate about GT4 is some times I wanna do donuts but I can't there is nothing real about not being able do a donut and that show off stuff with and M5 or Supra . I hope this isn't a repost , and that you get my idea.

An I want to see the 7 series battling the Audi A8 and merc S class , and Lexus 430 , and Cadillac DTS ..ect
Turn off the TCS and ASM and use lower-grade tires.

You got to admit, these burnouts suck, no skid marks what so ever. And the smoke? LOL, lets not talk about it. Anyone play FORZA? That game is more detailed.

There is a way you can do something similar to a donut. Just turn off the asm and tcs and go to a wide track or somewhere with a paved open area. The engine revs get real annoying after a while but you can do something like a donut. If you turn off the sound effects on the replay while playing good music, it actually looks pretty cool. Same thing with burnouts but the engine revs get annoying unless you barely hold the accelerator.

Luxury cars would be nice.

Excluding tire marks and smoke, Gran Turismo 3 had fairly realistic physics for donuts and spinning. Gran Turismo 4 did not.

Okay, none of the stock cars will do correct donuts. I have an 02 camaro SS and it is so easy to do donuts with that in real life, yet impossible to do it in the game. THERE. GT5 HAS TO WORK ON THAT SMALL DETAIL WITH ITS PHYSICS. No big deal, as long as they fix it, because it is a definite mistake.

Brabus E-Class..............Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!!! Enough torque to lay rubber from one side of the country to the other, Goes over 200 miles an hour and all this fun in the comfort of armchairs! ( i mean the ones actually in the car!)

Please have it in GT5 or better yet; 💡

DEAR MR BRABUS, pretty please with sugar and a cherry on top can i have one? :)

Bring on the luxury cars!!!

Nice suggestion, but not nearly as cool as...

Or how 'bout some bentleys or maseratis, oh yes, and the donuts!
I love doin donuts. If they had some rubber physics, and then maybe you could do donuts to the point that you blow tires, That would be fun. :)

How about they let us drive the car to the pit after a victory and maybe do a doughnut on the way? Most of you probably didn't see the finish of the 2005 Proximus Spa 24h race but Timo Scheider (racing for Vitaphone Racing in the FIA GT championship) did a doughnut in his Maserati MC12 (a car I'd like to see in GT5 aswell btw) just before entering the pitlane to put the car in the parc ferme. :dopey: I wanna be able to do that in GT5.

How often do you see burnouts and donuts in real racing? After nearly every win, especially in NAS(ty)CAR. I've seen F1, P1, P2, GT1, GT2, GTS, Nascar, Cart, IRL, etc etc etc cars doing burnouts and/or donuts after a victory. And a very important point was raised near the beginning of this thread, and that is that it's a LOT easier to change your direction from a stop in real life than it is in the game. If you floor it with crappy tires, no traction control, and a lot of torque, and turn the wheel all the way, your car should immediately whip around quickly and face the other direction, pivoting on the front wheels. In the game...that doesn't happen. At all. I also remember seeing a race driver spin his Viper facing backwards on Laguna Seca. What did he do? He waited for the other cars to go by, floored it, and within half a second was facing the right direction and off he went.

Tire marks and smoke would be nice, and would add some interesting gameplay elements. They're not necessary, but they would make the game look a LOT more realistic. In an endurance race, wouldn't it be nice for the black stuff to slowly accumulate at all the hard corners so that at the end of the race there's a nice solid racing line, as opposed to having one to begin with? How about driving around the track and seeing the tire marks from where you skidded off the track the last lap?

Of course, it would only work if done right. That means that the faster your tire's spinning, the darker the line. Also, it should depend on what tire compound you're using. Harder tires won't leave nearly as many marks as soft tires. The point is, you don't just want these big fat marks everwhere, you want them to look realistic. As for smoke, they've had huge clouds billowing into the air from dirt since GT2, why not from tire smoke? It's always struck me as odd that when I fly off into the sand, I kick up a huge cloud, but when I come back on the track with my tires spinning full bore the smoke disappears.

As for more luxury cars, bring em on!

Last night I saw a summary of the last DTM race where some guy slided away facing the opposite direction, he did a doughnut and then turned his car in the right direction. A few minutes later Mika Hakinnen slided away facing the opposite direction after a collision with another driver, he immediatly spinned his wheels and after just a second he was completly surrounded by smoke, he turned the car in the right direction and took of again bumping into another car making him and the third car slide again (I can't remember if he finished the race tho). That's what I wanna be able to do or see in GT5 together with what I said in my previous post.

yeah, this is annoying i think. they better make these small details right for the next game... shame on them if they dont...

we can just hope... but i think they'll make realistic smoke though... the hard thing will probably be to make it to smoke at the right time... the smoke should come when the tires become warm, the smokeness should simply depend on how warm the tires are. if you just spin and you hear some tire yelling it should not be smoke... but if you do a burnout in maybe 10 seconds it should become a cloud of tire smoke :D

Can we do that in GT4???
Nope.
Shouldwe be able to in GT5?
Darn tootin!
there is enough power i nthis thing to do some realistic burnouts,
3.2 64bit prob with 7 cores, so lets multiply 3.2x7= 22.4 ghz now that's at 64bit...
in 32 bit that's 44.8 ghz...
enough processor power in my book to make some room for burnot smoke and tire marks...
then we have the gpu,
a card that is more powerfull than a 7800 GTX....
that alone is enough....
That card can do all of the latest and greatst effects and supports full features ets of both microsoft's direct x and the open gl api.
Basically if it's more powerfull than this thing, it's like saying you have an overall better car than a ferrari enzo...
and in consoles where cars... PS3 would be the ultimate, fastest, lightest...
basically if we don't get good lookin burnouts.... we have reason to frown. Not have a riot, but frown atleast. Have you guys seen the GT5 video...
no longer are body lines or gaps between panels just textured on, they are really there! I think having small unrealistic smoke would be a crime with these other details being so fine. And we know there is mroe than enough CPU power to have realistic AI and physics, I'm sure some small adjustments would be simple. things like smoke in game engines aren't lines upon lines of code for different amounts like some of you think. It's changing a value here and there....
And as a proud owner of several muscle cars, I feel burnouts are important, especialy when it's time for new tires and those old ones are beggin to be finished!
