Don't Consider the Element Until You've Seen the Scion xB...

I hate to break it to all the xB haters, but here in southern california, the xB has been out quite a while and dealers cannot keep them in stock. It is true that on paper, many cars are better in many different aspects. But as a package, this car delivers something no other car does. It's unpretentous, yet makes an unmistakable style statement, whether you like that statement or not. They are selling as many as they can build. For the price and all the custom (from the dealer) accessories you can get to make even a brand new xB personal, it's in it's own class. Toyota knew many people will hate it, which is exactly why it is selling so well. The fact that its shunned by a whole class of people makes it that much more attractive and individual to the whole other class.

Don't know if I'd buy one, but I'm glad Toyota had the balls to do something like this.

Plus, doesn't it look like a car you would draw in crayon in 3rd grade?? So cool.....

No problem, just my 2 cents...

I would rather have some odd, interesting, and even some downright ugly (Aztek, older Tiburon) cars on the road than have everyone drive cars that look the same even if they all look ok.

IMO, a true car enthusiast can look at any car, and even if they hate it, still appreciate the place in holds in automotive history...

I completely agree. I know piss about cars compared to just about anyone here, but even I can see this is an awful deal. Even if this thing was made of platinum and looked like a Ferrari 288 GTO, I'd still hate it.

What place does this hold in automotive history? It surely isn't anything revolutionary, it isn't the best car in its class, it isn't the best car that begins with x, it isn't the worst car ever, it isn't anything. The only thing that distinguishes it from anything else is the downright ugliness of it.

lol They both suck, boxes with wheels :mischievous:

Thank you for proving my point. For every violently opposed person there is to this car, a few more just became interested in it.

Cars by nature do not have much to do with value. They are a very inefficient means of transportation. While I see your point that in order for you to buy a car, it must on paper have some outstanding quality or do something better than the competition, that is only what some people value as important. Many people value style as one of the most important factors, and there is no accounting for taste.

If all cars of any value had to have more horsepower, have more cargo room, etc, than their competition, that would mean some very awesome cars are valueless. Take the Acura NSX. On paper, it is old, expensive, down on power, cramped, and doesn't put up the performance figures of it's competiton anymore. But it still gets rave reviews bacuse it is so balanced as a sports car. "It's not the best at anything, but is very good at a lot of things" Why do you think Hondas and Toyotas sell so well? Same reason.

I know its hard to believe, but value is relative. Not everyone values in a car what you value, and a car's value is not always quantifyable. If carmakers only made cars that were of value to you, they would only sell one car.

I suppose I just don't understand why some are so angered because someone may like something they don't. But I assure you, all the xB drivers are unphased if not happy their choice of transportation upsets you!

Yes, but there's still Kia and Daewoo. :P

Yes, but where I grew up KIA meant Killed in Action.
The Scion company has an attractive car in the wings waiting to be released. It looks to be based on the Celica platform.

The xA and xB ain't "all that".

P.S. Aren't those Algebra symbols for unknowns.

I didn't know the Z06 has 580 hp! When did this happen! j/k Point taken though, the Z06 is by far the best bang for the buck sports car on the market today.

I've asked my dad about this - he got a Purple Heart in Vietnam and served in the military for years. He told me when the company came out with its first few models the thought did run through his head a few times - it's got to make you wonder, why didn't Kia just change their name for North America? Lexus and Acura do it (and now so does Scion).

Called the tC - but probably still powered by the same 108-horsepower 1.5L 4-cylinder as the rest of them.

Why don't they just put in a more powerful engine?

Is that so much to ask? I can look past the looks of any car if it has a nice enough engine.

I think a 180 HP engine is just what this car needs. It's super-light, isn't it? The driver's seat is already perfect; now it just needs a better engine.

I'm completely done with high school. I left school at 11 this morning after I got 37 signatures saying I could leave. I'm awesome.

The Scion tC is a new coupe unveiled by Scion that has the same platform as the Toyota Celica. As for the engine, it will featire a 2.4 litre DOHC 16-valve VVT-i 4-Cylinder engine that produces 160 bhp. It will be the first car in Scion's lineup that will feature a panorama moonroof with a power slide/tilt front panel, cruise control, an outside temperature gauge, driver's seat one-touch walk-in with track and seat angle memory, dual power points, 17" alloy wheels with graphite appearance finish, a rear fender-mount antenna, a driver knee airbag, and 4-wheel disc brakes.

The tC platform is shared with the European-built Avensis (Also shared with the Japan-only Caldina.), not the Celica.

btw, the tC is currently a North America-only model.
