Downforce and fuel consumption

:)all are correct on the issues but races are races once accompanied the leaders you save fuel and tire in the packaging.

The more you push the pedal the more fuel you're gonna consume. Downforce doesnt affect fuel consumption directly, but it increases the drag so your acceleration and top speed will be slower. On the streets where there's speed limits it's going to affect your fuel consumption because you have to give more gas to maintain your speed. But on a racetrack you always go as fast as possible so you always give maximum gas = same consumption rate.

I have a related question about tire wear while racing in the endurance races, in particular the "24Hours of Nurburgring".

When I started with the low level endurance series, I used Race Soft tires and pitted more often, however the gains in time while racing easily compensated for the extra pit stops. I used the same strategy in Le Mans and it worked well also. I have done the 24 Hours of Nurb once but found that after 3 laps, my R-3 tires were basically useless. Is this realistic???? I keep watching some movies of races at Nurb but these guys seem to pit only once in a while. How do they do this?? What tires would they be using?? It appears they drive for hours on the same set of tires and only pit to fuel.

Maybe my driving is so bad that I have excessive tire wear?? My best lap was :07:18 using the MAzda 787B, most of my lap times in the dry were from 7:30 to 7:45 and 08:25 or more in the wet using intermediate rains.

Any thought anyone??

Cheers, Pete
