What happens to your driving when you zone out?

I can categorize my driving like this:

Normal driving: I drive normally. Using this method, I got to 4000th place on the Forza leaderboard. I drive normally, with good throttle control, brake control, and racing line, but a little lacking in the steering finesse and actual cornering. I'll set a 1:30 time around Laguna seca with a well tuned Ford GT.

Zone out: I'm not really thinking about things, so I'm just a machine for driving. This happens in one or two laps if I'm trying. My steering gets better and my lap times become quicker and more persistent. I can set a 1:30 lap time in a badly tuned Ford GT.

My ultimate zone out: I use this in long races where my mind falls into a pattern. My thought processes begin again, but in absolutes. As an example, I think less "I think I can go around this corner faster" and then understeer into a tree, and more "I will go around this corner faster," and I automatically adjust my line to incorporate the higher speeds, and move my corner apex further ahead for better corner exit speed and grip. i tend to neglect the rest of my surroundings in this zone, and it takes my brother to pause the game on a straight to tell me "It's time for dinner, you haven't eaten all day." for me to even realize my existence. Using this method, I can do a 1:30 in a tuned Spirra.

I go slower as a rule - I tend to make more mistakes, miss apexes, go off the track etc. If I'm tired I tend to avoid playing GT!

I tend to find that my times are faster & I'm more consistent when "in the zone", until I start to catch the car in front when I sometimes seem to come out of the zone & end up trying too hard to get past & either brake too late or do another type of unforced error resulting in me being further back down the field than before :banghead:

See thats the thing for me. I can zone out in the zone, and pass other cars without even noticing. Ive had times when I have the snap-back to reality and notice I've passed 1 or even 2 cars without realizing.
