In BDC, the Cosworth Supra is running over 1000bhp.

Comp drifting is very different to 'fun' drifting.

And someone's SC430 (soarer on out good ol' nascar land) is pushing 1200hp. Regardless of what having that much power does to drifting as recreation, it takes massive balls and a ton of skill to purposey lose control of a car with 1000+hp. My main drift car is a BMW 135I with 408hp and full weig reduction. I love the thing and I really progressed my driving greatly using it. Learning to drift it even helped me greatly on normal road racing. I've really been wanting to do a V8 drift car to listen to that roar so I used the mustang, which I hated so much I haven't touched it since I first used it. I tuned a C5 Z06 Vette and I basically had to relearn drifting with how well he car reacts to steering input and because it has much more power to push it forwards. If drifting a mid powered car added seconds to my lap times, imagine what consistently drifting a high powered car will decrease from my lap times. So basically, I vote for high power, plus you can keep the wheels spinning on those huge sweepers that you can't take a ton of angle on with lower powered cars.
 
I'm pretty sure I saw a pic of sumone's build for D1 with over 1200hp. Maybe Taniguchi? Not sure. It's definitely more fun to drift with a high powered car (my personal favorite is that Z06 from '63 or somewhere around that time) the rush of power is just overwhelming when you don't expect it but low power cars are also fun the the way that you can just floor them all the way through a corner and Keiichi Tuschiya himself said that underpowered cars are harder to drift. They are also crucial in helping you learn different skills (watch Japan Vs. USA on YouTube, if I remember correct the parts are 1a and 1b instead of part 1 and 2)
 
I am not saying high power is the way to go. I have a 240sx that has 450hp( or around there) and I love to slide it around. I just like to use the higher powered cars on the tracks that have a lot of long corners. The lower powered cars have a hard time staying sideways through those long corners.
