Drifting to be added to GT4, and physics improved!

Super Street interviewed Kazunori Yamauchi after E3 and this is an excerpt from the article:

"SS: Now to go in a different direction, many of the JGTC drivers we speak to--Keiichi Tsuchiya, Manabu Orido, Nobuteru Tanaguchi--say as much as they drive JGTC, the love drifting. So we're wondering, will we see any D1 Grand Prix-type events at circuits like Bihoku Highland?

KY: Because we are continually seekign the real feel of the car, the physics engine has improved significantly. The is will allow for the car to act more naturally, thus you can drift more accurately in the game. Previously, we provided drift tires, drift mode-stuff like that. However, I'm comfortable saying that drifting will be more real in GT4 than it has been in the past. With that said, I am concidering a variety of game modes, some of which I cannot share. One significant one--probably the one that you ar ethe most concerned about--is we will include a "Drift Contest" in the game. We may not name is "D1," however we hope to provide that kind of experience for you."

Later he also went on to say they are going to try adding even more tuner cars, and allow a greater variety of tuning. My excitement over GT4 just went up several notches. :D

very go0d info VenomousDrift...although im not an "intial-D-dorifto-maniac" (not ment to offend :D) the inclusion of tuner cars, esp D1GP cars (blitz skyline sedan :embarrassed: :D ), is very inticing info:D :D

OMFG!!! I've been praying for this feature and thought it would never happen! God has given us a gift gentlemen, cherish it. This opens up a whole new spectrum of fun for us, because the drift contest will most likely have a points system in with we can share with eachother in organized drift comps. Not to mention the new tracks and more in-game support for drifting. This is gonna be ****ing sweet.

sounds great. but the one thing im afriad of is a BRAND new style of drifting. will it be so simple that is just takes some tires and counter-steer. i hope they have just tweaked it:D

haha..I was just thinking how pissed off the Hardcore Racers are going to be if you have to win drift events to get 100% complete.

Yes ethix at least I would be very dissappointed if i had to put a lot of energy in drifting to get 100%. But who knows, if it will be so, I'll sure do it and mabye I'll like it..

/D

yeah i was thinking the same thing...pll like neon duke lol... that would make them mad huh... but if they do do this... its not really a racing game anymore... its more like the olympics... cause now you got judges... lol... but it would be fun as long as they dont mess up the drifting and make it like project gotham racing... for kudos or some crap

VenomousDrift would you be able to link us to that article please

:eek:this is the most exicting news ive heard from GT4
i cant wait, but like bustwave said i hope this inst going to be some watered down drifting that anyone seven year old could master

yes this is going to be sweet:D :D :D
and since GT4 is going online we can finally test our drift skills against each other and have proper competitions. we even can now have a new category "team drifts":D this is going to be intersting... 6 people drifting at the same time:P

i dont think alot of the guys in the GT3 forum will be happy about this
half of them think drifting is useless and for un skilled drivers that cant race grip:rolleyes:

The funny thing is, it takes a heck of alot more skill to drift well, than it does to win a race in GT3. I say we start setting up the drift squads right now. Alright, who wants to be in my squad?

kudos to that:cheers:

any way with gt4 going online Team Project D will now have a true purpose and people who couldn't make a video can know show us online and if other drift teams arise then we can have battles:mischievous:

Oh that's right, I forgot about PRoject D, speaking of which once GT4 comes out, i'll have to rethink my car, I might want to get myself a Levin. OR perhaps a 2000GT

whens the japanese/domestic release dates?
i live in japan for now and im sure that the other overseas folks here would keep a "thourough" guide to this feature.

as of now Jan 7th is the proposed release in the US...but things like this always change, i work at EB games so if this changes i'll let you know.

Considering it takes no skill at all to win a race in GT3, that doesn't say much for drifting. The real skill involved in GT3 racing is OLR competition, at which I freely admit I'm in the bottom tiers.

If drifting is required for 100% completion I'll do it, but if it is just something badly implemented like the Rally section of GT3, it will tick me off having to do so. It sounds like they are improving the way Rally works to make it better and more realistic - now if they saddle us with a drifting task that must be completed, they might as well not even have bothered.
