Please dont flame I have done a search and havent found the response I'm looking for.

Been drifting with a controller for the last 2-3 weeks and having no issues other than my noobieness.... but have gotten up some decent slides after practice...

Remembered drifting in the gt5 demo that you could download and it was FAR easier with a wheel.

So I pulled the good old g25 out of the cupboard....

Now I cant drift at all... the car just wants to do spins everytime I try to counter steer.... quick slow it makes no difference...

Tried a spec r s15, silvia s13, rx7 drifter etc different susp setups the works

no luck they all want to spin.... anyone got any good setting for the wheel to make slides a little easier its impossible atm.

Put the feedback settings on 7, simulation and have the assist on.

In the server or race, put active steering on strong...

Now, turn into the corner and when you feel the force on the wheel or see the car slipping out, let go of the wheel and let it countersteer for you.

I think your problem is you're either using too much throttle or you are trying to countersteer yourself.

Trying to turn it yourself is too slow and that will be spinning you out.

Maybe you should try the drift school for wheel drifters forum thing that is up here somewhere.

Good luck. ;)

Practice... Practice... Practice

And MORE Practice :)

Seriously though, everyone is crap at it to start with.
I was very good on the DS3 only after a day or two with being able to put the car wherever I wanted and linking whole laps of nearly most tracks easily and pulling off backwards entries no problem.

Started using the G25 then and couldn't string one corner together not to mention a whole lap.

Kept at it though and finally got good at it and able to link Tsukaba, Autumn Mini and Susuka East now most of the time but its still not very pretty but I'm getting there.

I realized I was trying to run before I could crawl with trying stuff I was able to do on the DS3.
I then used the approach in the same way I learnt how to drift a real car years ago with just low speed (maybe only 20-40mph) fish-tailing progressively working upto spanning the whole track at 60-70mph now.

shallow angles around corners just to get thew feel of it and keep the drift going and linking in the next corner and gradually increased my speed and angle.

Don't steer more than is necessary is one of the main things that might help you. Only steer as much as needed to keep the slide going, don't worry if you have a very shallow angle or loose the drift as its better for learning to keep a small drift going than it is to spin out on one that you have lots of speed and angle with as well as its much less frustrating.

Try get to know the biting point of where the car starts to re-gain grip and take off your counter-steer just before this and remember where your pointing the front wheels all the time during a drift.

If you start to get the hang of straightening the steering just before the rear end gets grip, you will stop spinning out very quickly and maintaining drifts, linking corners and just fish-tailing nicely along straights will will come to you pretty fast.

Well I kinda disagree with the 2nd post, unless your taking assist off later. I usually start at 5 FFB & then increase over time to about 8. Active steering should be off. Eiger is also a good place to start with low-to-med linkable drift.

i use the Wheel settings on Simulation Power assists off and FFB on 6, and just practice practice practice is all it took me...
