Hey,

I can drift fairly well with a DS3, but I am going to buy a Logitech G27.
The thing I love most in GT5 is drifting, so I want to drift with the G27 too.
I have some questions:
- What settings should I use with the G27 (force feedback etc.)?
- What is a easy drift car for drifting with G27?
- Is there a difference between (drift) tunes for DS3 and G27?
- Are there certain things I need to know about drifting with G27?
- Do you have any good tips for me?

I would really appreciate some help!
Sorry for my bad English.

- Steering Type: Simulation, Power-Steering: Personal Preference however most will say turn it off, FFB: Personal Preference however 6-10 is the average range.

-Premium FC, Premium Supra, 350z, TVR, Concept 1 Series, etc.

-YES A BIG DIFFERENCE, I SUGGEST YOU DO SOME RESEARCH ON HOW TUNING OPTIONS AFFECT REAL LIFE CARS. DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BUT YOU'LL EVENTUALLY LEARN THE DIFFERENCE.

-Patience, Practice, Confidence, Hard Work, Challenge yourself.

-Two tips:
1)Driving line, use it for the first couple of days just to take some strain off of having to focus on when to gas and brake;Once you have the steering down take it off.
2)Hood view or bumper view.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the tips!
I know a lot about tuning in real life, but I want to know what is the difference between DS3 and G27 drift tune in GT5.
I use the drift tunes of ShmoGT for drifting with the DS3, can I use those tunes with the G27 too.
Should I use low power cars or high power cars (more than 500hp)?

I use a g27 and I drift with more than 500 hp. The car I use is the premium 07 mustang with 672 hp and I find it easier with more power because it's easier to make the rear wheels spin hope I could help

Definetly try whit low power cars and most off all be patient, wheel drifting aint easy.. its not forgiving..

Thanks for the tips!

DS3 tunes are geared more for faster steering and are more sensitive to drift. Compared to a wheel tune based more on smoothness.

Imma suggest low powered cars, no more than 350-400hp.

Try simulation, power assist off, and force feedback 5 (your preference)

- What is a easy drift car for drifting with G27?

Nissan Z33/34 or Mazda Rx-7

Yes, a tune for DS3 will not be the best for G27. Mostly the suspension will be a off.

- Are there certain things I need to know about drifting with G27?

It will take a while to pick up, it's not something you pick up overnight. Be prepared, you need dedication! If you're not up for it, it's not for you.

Go slow, at least half throttle. You need start slow for a while to learn how the car will drift. This is way different than the controller, you'll have to be patient and not rush things.

You should also find a car and stick with it!! Switching up cars will set your progression back.

One last thing, get online as fast as you can! I found that when I was by myself, I wouldn't push myself and kept at the same level. When I got online, I would try to keep up with people and bettered myself.
I would really appreciate some help!

One more thing......Search the forums, there are plenty of threads on drifting for beginners that will help you. This is how I learned, I started by using the search feature!!

Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it!

Is the Nissan Silvia (S13) a good beginner car for drifting with a wheel?
Could anyone post a easy (and good) setup for drifting with a G27?
I find a lot of good drift tunes on GTPlanet, but most of them are for DS3...

Its a perfect starter car, You don't really need to tune it. I used the Silvia K's DIA Selection (s13) '90 from the dealership and kept suspension/transmission pretty much stock, just lowered to -5 and kept the rest the same.

I added all tuning parts, all weight reductions, and all drive train parts. I set the LSD to 60/60/60. That's it.

In the beginning, I didn't tune any cars (except LSD) until I caught on to drifting

I am going to use your tips for sure.
My LSD is 60/60/05, why do you choose for 60?

Preference I guess. I started with it an ran with it. I'm not much of a tuner, I just grab tunes from the tuning depots and tweak them how it feels right for me.

Hi Thomas, im no pro myself but i know the basics.. add me and we can practice together, It might be helpfull to be able to talk dutch while learning. I can also share some tunes if you want. Not on the G27 myself but the fanatec.. Wont make much of a difference i think..

That would be nice!

Aah the good old days of being in school.. I wish i still had those long periods of vacation! Enjoy it while it lasts i say! I now have 24 days off in a year!

Anyways; ill send you that Friend request if i think of it..

Just make sure you make an e brake lever i cant tell you how many times the e brake has saved me! Just connect the lever to your ds3's stick with an elastic band so when you pull back it wont hurt the controller. I started with and old joystick and connected it to the ds3 in that fashion. I hope this helps you out even though it has nothing to do with technique.

In-Car View set to Extra Zoom + G27 = Win. I love it, but it's definitely a labor of love in the beginning learning to use a wheel. If you use the clutch it can be frustrating and best advice I have there is if you need to shift up while mid-drift, you got to clutch in a little longer for the RPM's to drop some or you'll wind up in Neutral and then it's all over lol.

I don't like using the clutch in gt5 it is to poorly modeled compared to other sims in my honest opinion, its more of a hindrance than an advantage. I love the sequential mode though it is nice to be able to flat foot shift mid drift and not worry.

+1, I clutch in rFactor as it feels real, not like GT5's on/off switch as I call it.

I agree it's not modeled properly but it does help kick the back out. I use it all the time to initiate the drift, especially at high speed long bends.

Some times i will use it for a clutch kick and switch right back to sequential shifting with the h pattern, but i do love using the sequential plate on the th8rs. :dopey:

I use g27!
I like the 240sx s13, 400hp in a low weight on tsukuba is best training. I can write my setup that i like i you want :)

The hardest part to adjust to is the gears. Id advise you to change back to standard transmission and pick one gear per corner, you can't shift up mid drift with the clutch and PD have that programmed in to game. You'll have to use transitions for gear changes and you get wider use of the rev range with the standard gears. This is if you use comfort hard anyway! Hope this helps!
