Drive of your Life...

Dont misquote me yourself. I did mention driving as well. Id love to drive alone on a mountain road or through a deep forest. Something like cruising on an expressway or through town is not something that appeals to me. I mean, give me a road like the one that runs through Drawski Park Krajobrazowy in north-western poland(over a hundred corners in 20km), yes please, but for fast driving, not something to cruise on.

ahh polish roads :) something we need in GT game :)

Given this some thinking and, I'm starting to love the idea(s)! Well, at least the "online cruising". Be it part of a city, Poland or autobahn.. Would be a nice way to socialize if/when you are bored enough for it.
However, not sure if we're gonna see it ever happening or, heck not even sure if I'd actually use such a feature at all.

all of the cursing ideas are really nice.. but think about it.. everyone would like to show off their skills so Drifting or racing would always take place

i think for the Drive of your life... what we need in Gran Turismo is a Huge Parking space and that you can be able to put cones and draw white and yellow lines on it... basically making your own layout to have some fun with your friends.

something like in GT4 wit cone placing options and lil bigger.. now that would be fun with 16 cars chilling out on parking space doing some drifts and saloms :) (sp? lol, who cares)

it be also good to save a replay and be better if GT had movie maker :) with all cool gadgets

I see what you mean somethin like what topgear did a few months ago when they went to N Italy.
But i think the space on the disk could be used for somethin better.

Err, I don't think disk space will be an issue. If it is, for whatever reason, it could be a free downloadable add-on.

I've thought of that before. It would be nice, however, I think that people would find it really boring and throw it to the side after a few days or even hours. If you want an interactive world, there's always GTA and Midnight Club.

If this world had police, though, it might be a lot more fun :D

We all know that this will not happen. What I do think they should do though is make a photo cruise that is at least 50 miles but not necessarily a complete circuit. In this 50 or more miles it would be nice to see as much terrain and scenary as possible. Perhaps have say a few miles of interstate highway also. I would like to see a small portion of a large city and then maybe a small or medium size town on this journey. On this journey there could vertually be an unlimited number of photo locations. Meaning you can pull in to parking lots, gas stations, restraunt parking lots and lots of other locations. How about a full function automated drive through car wash or even garage to change your oil. Would also be a great way for real advertisment to be included in the game. They could even perhaps include car dealerships on this photo drive. My vision would in no way shape or form be like Need for Speed or any of those others. On this drive, damage to your car and or other things would be a big NO. It would be cool to see other GT gamers on this drive but I am not sure if there would be away to implement that without complications.

Yeah, from desert to snow would be cool.

GT5 will be fully integrated with Home

OK heres my idea

So you get a msg from one of your friends
" dude you wanna race Skylines at Suzuka ? "

Hop in ya motor and drive to the circuit
go race . Maybe even drive home again.

That would be pretty cool

With PD having close ties with the auto industry, i can't see them ever implimenting anything that promotes dangerous driving. Having an open stretch of road would be seen to be encouraging speeding.

If PD were that concerned with being seen to be promoting speeding surely they could limit the speed of your car as they do with the penalty system.
keep the high speeds for the race track

And always wear your seatbelt and use your turn signal

I'm well in favour of point-to-point "road" courses; whether they be modeled after real-life counterparts, inspired by them or totally imagined would be neither here nor there, in my opinion.

It's something I've always wanted to do in GT, or any other driving game. In GT4, to some extent, there is a nod to this philosophy in the Assisi (Citta di Aria) and Costa di Amalfi circuits, both featuring narrow roads that wind through semi-rural and mostly authentic locales. Admittedly, the inclusion of such narrow circuits was apparantly (according to Kaz sometime before GT4's release, though I believe he was talking about Grand Canyon at the time) due to breakthroughs in the physics-control interfacing in the game. This meant the cars could be controlled to a finer accuracy at higher speeds, even with the Dual Shock 2 controller, and hence such tracks would for the first time be enjoyable in a GT game.

I've recently been playing Richard Burns Rally and some of the gravel courses in that game are sublime, let alone the tarmac über-dreams set in the south of France. This is all tied together with a fairly good physics engine (from the guys who brought us Carmageddon, no less!) and I think it's a good waymarker for what could be offered in Gran Turismo. Let's not forget hillclimbs, the Targa Florio and many other similarly important motorsport events (LeMans!) take/took place on "public" roads; it's surely in PD's interest to further their quest to make The Driving Simulator to include such things.

When someone brings up the idea of driving on public roads, with or without traffic, why do people immediately go "NO DATS NOT WUT GRAN TURISMO IS ABOUT GO PLAY NFS OR TDU N00B"...?

Why can't people accept the fact that others enjoy playing a game that involves public roads, often with traffic, and that racing in such an environment in a videogame is a perfectly safe practice? They shouldn't be forced to play a game like NFS or TDU to get that experience. Many people play Gran Turismo for its car selection, physics, or any other number of factors, things that NFS and TDU just can't match.

Protesting this idea is just like protesting the inclusion of any particular car -- you might not like it, but others do. Show some respect.

the idea would be best implemented as a test drive feature or part of photomode, i believe. probably with no traffic. but also not something that should be included right now.

Exactly. Thank you.

Along the same lines, I'd like to see some longer rally stages, like in Dirt, or the Toca series.

Speaking of, that makes me think of something else. I know it takes more time and work to produce a track than a car for Gran Turismo, but still, I'd think it'd be pretty nice if Polyphony put less emphasis on producing a grand quantity of vehicles, and put some more emphasis on including more tracks with GT5.

I mean, how amazing would it be if, straight out of the box, GT5 had about 60 or so unique tracks. Even if they had to scale back the number of cars they included in the game upon launch.

Plus, it just makes sense. Vehicles take less time to produce, so instead of having to worry about making both downloadable vehicles as well as tracks, they wouldn't have to worry about tracks as much. At least not for a while, which'd make DLC available quicker.

This is a good point, actually, one that I haven't thought of before. Having a lot of cars is fine and all, but once you find your favorites, you tend to stick to them, and they don't get boring. Even if your favorite cars aren't included, you find others that you like.

Yet when it comes to tracks, I think most people use every last one, or at least the majority of them. Once you've done that, there's nothing more. You can switch cars, but the tracks remain the same.

Wolfe, sorry to butt in.

As a driver I believe the tracks stay the same physically, but it evolves as the type car you drive on it changes.

For the sake of development time, there should only be enough tracks giving you a wide selection of tests and emotions.
They could model 100 tracks. But mostly only the backdrop would change.

As a driver you should only be focusing on exploring the limits of every corner. I always wondered if any corner would be boring in a F1 car on the limit for example?

If you'd like to cruise up/down the mountain drops, I understand that too. But remember its the emotional response that is different.

Don't compare TDU to NFS. TDU in hardcore mode offers surprisingly realistic handling.

TDU harcore mode physics is as good as GTHD physics. Not great but no where near NFS-no-physics-at-all. Sadly HC mode was an after thought in TDU hand they put more work into it (fix "flying", smooth out some roads, and allow HC mode in missions, etc)

It would be easier for TDU to improve it's physics and add more cars then for GT to add traffic and roads changing their franchise.

I reckon a CLOSED Japanese mountain road (Touge) would be a welcomed addition to the Gran Turismo track list, certainly by us dorift folks :sly:. And as cool as traffic would be for some round town cruising, I dont think this will ever happen in a Gran Turismo game sadly

Personally, there is nothing in the world i would love more than if GT5 would also have several tracks consisting of some city streets and country side like Grand Theft Auto. Maybe 3-4 cities, each about 1/2 or 1/3 the size of san andreas' cities? For example, a London district, something out of Paris, maybe a part of LA (PCH or some Cali mountain passes), and something out of Tokyo, or a beautiful german city with baroque architecture and an autobahn stretch?? With some traffic of course, of variable density. That would be absolutely amazing in my opinion

I do realize this would completely stray away from the gran turismo franchise based on individual timed races on closed tracks, as there are games out there that have attempted open-ended gameplay exactly as i am suggesting here.. regardless, being in love with GT graphics, car selection, and physics, i cant help but be drawn to the idea of driving my GT cars on more open, public roads.

And of course modeling these huge areas and developing a realistic traffic model would tack on another year or two of development time (as each one of my suggested city ideas would probably have to be about 10x bigger than a city track from GT4), so it'll just remain wishful thinking i guess :\

but this would be the perfect "driving simulator" :D
