Hey, someone revived my old thread!
Nowadays, I don't use ASM on any of my cars anymore, and I reserve (low) TCS (around 2-3) for cars over 500HP. It's just a little more fun when you have complete control over the car.

Never. If the car is too hard to drive without them, I feel that I need to improve, not the car.

👍 I used to use TCS on 1 on 500bhp+ cars but now just it feels unnatural. ASM uses the brakes, so by definition slows you down. And (when I forget to turn it off on a new/unused car) you can feel it tuggung away at the car, holding you back. :yuck:

I turn off all aids as soon as i get any car, it always feels like im not in control of the car when they are on... and as said in previous thread it feels like you are being slowed down... im using a 700+hp car with no aids and feels fine round the nurburgring :)... first post for me :D

Hey! Welcome to GTP [OSR] Xaid0n; Hope you enjoy your stay!

Personally, I never use any driving aids either, and for the reasons stated previously - like the car feels like it is not in your control etc. I have also found that with ASM turned on, cornering is even more of a chore than it already is (due to my poor driving skills). :sly:

Depends on the car and track for me, sometimes, I forget to turn them back on, I was wondering why my Supra RZ could'nt take Test Course corners at 230mph.

On tracks I'm not so good on, I normally have the Aids on, as I get better, I turn them down, until I don't need them.

Certainly depends on the car/track for me. It's fascinating how cars react to the use of aids. For instance, the FGT seems to react very well with them on. I get significantly faster lap times with them on, sometimes up to 2+ seconds more than with them off :)👍 . On the other hand, With them off you can 'feel' the cars setup more, especially the suspension. But mainly I just have TCS set from 0-5 and leave out ASM. Intriguing, really, it is.

I never use ASM, I use TCS with a select few cars in some races, because without it the tyres don't last, ie the Speed 12 in the real circuit tours, it just doesn't keep the tyres good without TCS, but in shorter races I would always turn TCS off. It's not a crime to use TCS, nor is it a sign that your a worse driver than someone who has it off because it does have it's uses, but you can drive just as fast or faster without it on.

I simply must use TCS. Although people keep saying that the DS2 controller button I use for acceleration is analog, it only works like an on/off switch on my controller for some reason. I've been using the controller for a year, so it should be broken in, but even when I test it for stationary throttling it goes from idle to full revs with even the slightest of pressure. Do both DS1 and DS2 controllers have pressure sensitive analog buttons?

Those other ASM controls don't even matter on most cars except for my highest HP cars or really bumpy tracks. I can take them or leave them for the most part.

I always drive with ASM and TCS, I dunno if you guys can control brake and throttle like a DFP but with a DS2 without ASM, I'm dying of understeer!

I'm using the DS2 with no aids and i haven't had any problems yet. What car are you using thats causing you so much understeer?

Every car, for example;

In the S-Licenses, there's a test with the Pitwork Z at Suzuka, with aids, I go at full in 5th into the first corner but when I do it without aids, I get massive understeer until I have to brake into 3rd to not crash out of the first corner:crazy:

Use the right stick and remember its not an on/off switch.

It does take a lot of practice but it is more than possiable with a DS2, but I will admit its a lot easier with a DFP.

I'm a bit confused lol, in your last post you said you were dieing of understeer without aids and now in this post, the car had aids but still had understeer? If anything i thought that the aids would cause the understeer since they use the brakes while turning.

No DS1 controlers arn't pressure sensetive, but you can't play GT4 with a DS1. ASM should be off all the time, it never helps, and I mean that literally, nomatter what the car and what the track ASM only ever slows you down.

ASM Understeer is designed to reduce understeer, so setting it higher will reduce understeer, however as it does this by braking individual wheels it will normally result in a slower lap time.

Its also almost impossiable to totaly remove understeer from corner entry, no matter what you do the front tyres only have so much grip, so even with ASM its possiable to overwhelm the system.

Did you even read my post?

I don't know about you, but I have played with a DS1 in GT4 (Because the top of the R-Stick spins around like a carousel:grumpy:). I would agree that ASM slows you down, but on certain tracks like the 'Ring or any other bumpy(seriously)/uneven track, it has its uses. I find it helps stabilise the car and reduce the chance of a spin-out during corners & certain straights if you happen to hit a bad bump/rough patch. So what it costs you in speed initially, you can make up by staying on the track.

Hmm... To be honest, I just left it on default, but after reading this thread, perhaps I should change this habit. Now, do I have to change it for EVERY car in my garage, or is there a global option for this?

I'm afraid you'll have to do it for each car - there's no global setting :( It's worth the effort though, I did the same as you (left it on default) for a long time, until I read about it here and the difference is amazing 👍 I use TC 1 now if the car is particularly powerful, but normally I set it all to 0.

I say no unless the car is very uncontrolable. I find it more challenging less annoying this way, because it annoys me that it slows down your car unecassarily in most situations.

I use TC in 1 and no other aids. Reason is the way the car spins when over powered doesn't look to real; it is too violent, too exaggerated. It feels more like a wheel spin on wet or dirt.

With all the aids on and on the default, those cars are to slow on the turns. These aids are one thing that I don't think GT4 actually capture correctly.

Just my opinion.

But I automatically set every car to 0/0/0 when first trying it out.

I almost never use ASM; sometimes I'll use it on a particular car: GSX-R/4 at Super Speedway or the Dodge Ram to make it handle more like a car. About 4 or 5 cars have ever benefited from it in my expereince.

TCS on 1 for cars with excessive wheelspin, anything else is really overkill. It's quite handly for powerful FF cars.

PD made all the default settings so excessive that labelling the game a real driving simulator is an oxymoron. The race cars handle like hovercrafts and spaceships with all those settings, and road cars act like they're on imaginary warped rails in corners.
