Driving force gt problems

Hi , i have just installed gt5 on my ps3 slim today and updated it to the latest version.

The problem is with my driving force gt pedals.
When i do not fully depress or accelerate.Just maintaining a constant amount of pressure of the pedals. the 2 bars on the HUD representing the brake and gas pedals spikes manically, like its vibrating. I tried the wheel on my ps2 GT4 before i purchased my PS3 last week and it behaved the same way .and i thought maybe it was some issues with my ps2's usb port.

However, when i plug it in to my PC , i have no such issues, the logitech game profiler showed that the pedals were able to perform normally . Also it had no issues with rFactor/Race 07 series and dirt 3.

this is a huge dilenma for me as i am from malaysia, and sending anything back to logitech would be torublesome, and i most certainly hope that the problem isn't with my newly purchased PS3.

I have tried cleaning the usb cable head ,ensuring all the cables are connected securely.

I even tried opening up the pedals to clean the insides .

Was that supposed to be normal in GT5? or my wheel just decided that it hated the PS3 ,and the PC was an Okay guy.

It was plugged in to the second USB port on the right on my PS3 Slim .
and the 1st port had the mini usb cable plugged in,but not connected to my DS3.

the steering wheel worked fine, just the brakes and pedals are crazy.

I wish I remembered exactly how but it's some dumb thing where you need to press both pedals down before every race to calibrate them.

If it's the signal is oscillating, that usually means either bad contact or problem with the potentiometer (also a contact problem).

It's not an inherent problem in GT5- if you have good contact you will get good signal.

How long have you had the pedal? I used to live in Malaysia- it's hot and humid so there's always problem with oxidization especially when it comes to copper. Have you tried cleaning the contact points. Do they look kind of greenish in colour?

I've had it for around a year, mainly for PC sim racing, until i got GT5 last week.
the inside of the pedal looked fine,no rust or greenish colors visible.
I don't know if it's a contact problem though,it worked fine on the pc. On the logitech profiler it device page it performed just fine. I've also tried it on rfactor's control set-up and Race injection's control set-up. The pedals worked fine and there was no spasming of either brake or throttle.

The problem only occurred for
PS2: Enthusia professional racing
GT4
PS3: GT5

I've also tried tightening the connectors to the potentiometer, didnt change anything unfortunately .

:( my warranty has most likely expired, and i cant afford a new wheel anytime soon.

You said that you have the DFGT plugged into the 2nd USB slot on the PS3- have you tired using the first one (on the left) and make sure when you choose the controller number, use #1 for the DFGT. Also try cleaning the USB slot itself.

I believe with the DFGT you plug the pedal (via cable) onto the DFGT steering wheel housing. Clean that contact as well.

clean out the inside of your pedals, you will be surprised of the amount of dirt and crap inside there! if you still have warranty send them back, and get them replaced.

i'll open up the pedals again to see if there's anything i can do. If the problem persists,i'll call customer support. I have a feeling my warranty is over though.

I have sent logitech an email.Hopefully i could get my pedal replaced . I've been looking forward to playing GT5 . I am disappointed at the wheel's flaws,as i have seen that many are having issues with their DFGT on logitech's support community as well. Unfortunately, only logitech provides all the basic necessities of a sim-racing qualified wheel at an affordable price .

Hi,thanks for replying. I've received your PM. I did go into the options and put the wheel to simulation mode, the steering aids were all turned off.

You warranty might be over but I think if you explain your problem to them especially the fact that the pedal seems to work fine on the PC with problem persisting only when it comes to console, then maybe they could investigate if other people have filed similar complaints. Who knows they might feel obligated to send you a new pedal. Don't quote me on that, though.

I hope they do send me one ,unfortunately customer support in malaysia is horrible. I don't think they would do more than tell me that my warranty period has ended and they are sorry they can't help me.But i did provide my PID . The DFGT pedals are probably not that costly to manufacture as well. So i do hope that they would show some generosity and send one over. I'd hate to have to buy another wheel.

I have a DFGT and I have this same problem, only that I am lucky enough that it happens with the gas pedal only. The problem is that dirt is trapped inside the pedal unit or the potentiometer has moved out of place. This usually isn't a problem on PC games because the games aren't so sensitive to the gas pedal. But in Gran Turismo 5 the gas pedal is very sensitive.

Thank you for replying. I think i should open the pedals up again, and try to clean it more thoroughly. Do you use any rubbing alcohol Etc for cleaning the inside??

If they are working fine on pc games and in the logitech profiler I dont think the pedals are the problem. Its gotta to be a ps3 problem. Not sure what the problem would be but if it was the pedals themselves you see it on pc also.

I actually haven't opened the pedals yet as I'm afraid it will void the warranty. But I think the warranty might be void in a couple of months anyway.

What I do to deal with this problem is unplug the wheel from the PS3 and the mains for a while and start driving again after a while, it isn't the best solution if you want to start driving again as soon as possible but it's quite effective for stopping this problem temporarily.

I hope not.but the probability is small. I just got the PS3 last week. And this occurred to my PS2 with GT4 as well. Maybe the wheel doesnt like consoles?:)

But i suspect it's a wiring/circuit board issue. Perhaps when running with a console the wheel uses one or 2 more extra or different wires for the pedal. And maybe those are the faulty wires. It's just strange that it works fine on the PC but not on consoles.

Nonsense, the DFGT is a wheel based on console racing but can be used on PC games as well.

I've already tried doing that :(. It did not work.

I feel the same. It was marketed for ps3,it even dons teh GT logo in the middle of the wheel. It was supposed to work perfectly with the PS3 :(
I heard that you can do some slight changes to the plug of G27 pedals to make them work with the DFGT. Those pedals are 100000000x better than the ones that come with the DFGT and you wouldn't have this problem. You can't use the clutch though.

If i could get a G27 i would use the G27 set instead of a DFGT :(. Its a little costly for a full-time college student like me. Clutch would be awesome. But for now,i just hope that my DFGT would cooperate with me until i get something better in the future.

Have you connected your wheel to your PC ever since you tried it in GT5? If the problem you're experiencing on your PS3 is present on your PC it means that your pots have gone bad. :(

Not much you can do there, other than trying to clean them, purchase new pots, new pedals or getting Logi to replace them.

I've went a little further. i took the pots out from the pedals and i detached the tiny springs from the pots. i hooked it up to my pc with logi profiler running. and i just played around with the pots. they worked perfectly. It seems that the PS2 and PS3 just doesnt get along well with the pedals.
I hooked it up to my ps3 and did the same experiment. the problem persisted ,even with no spring resistance, and constant feedback to the main wheel, they were still spiking.
I am wondering if When connected to the PS3 the wheel uses different sets of pins for the pedals than on the PC.

Or perhaps there is something wrong with the amount of electricity supplied to the ps3.
