Hey guys, first time poster. I own a DFGT w/ a Wheel Stand pro. I'm lovin' it.

The noise on the wheel isn't horrible at all, but I was thinking if it were possible to add Dynamat Noise Insulation to the inside of the housing. I've opened the wheel before, and there seems to be enough space for some noise reduction.

My only worry is the vents in the plastic. Are the vents for look, or does the wheel actually need to vent? Does it overheat? I doubt it, but since you never know....

any thoughts?
Thanks guys!

I do believe they do need all the ventilation they can get. Might be risky imo, at least if you're using the wheel for longer periods of time in one go..

I know for a fact that my new G27 gets warm after an hour or so of running Time Attacks. I usually just run an hour sprint then let it cool off. I don't think the wheel's case will melt or anything.

The FFB motors generate a reasonable amount of heat.
A rule of thumb, never fully cover electrical components.
Some grease to quieten the gears would be a better solution,
they should have as much as required anyway.

BTW: Welcome to GTP

EDIT: There are products that deflect sound,
soft or open cell foam with hills and valleys is one.
Whether these will be effective with allowing air vents,
would be a matter of trial and error.

Thanks guys! Yeah I was looking at the DFGT the other days...I think most of those air vents are for look. I tested by passing a hole through the plastic and blowing air. Only some have tiny slit openings.

I guess what I'd like to do is pretty much pad the hollow plastic (which could be amplifying sound) and cut the portions where the vents are.

I've actually greased my wheel using a non corrosive grease for plastic, it took it down a few notches. Like I said, it isn't horrible...just would be nice to hear it next to silent. ;)

I will try a few things and report here. I only play for short bursts of time, but I will be very cautious. :)
