DTS Audio bugs

Nice, I thought I am the only one having the sound problem.

It started when I switched to DTS.

It is most noticeable in the "Living Room" Profile, and gets a little better with "Large Theater".

For me it sounds like GT5 wants to output very low profile noise (you can hear the effect really good if you have a viper in your garage and jump into it, the "engine starting up"-sound, the viper starts high and decents into a low rumbling noise). The lower the output (I guess as low as to hit the subwoofer mostly) the more bubbeling/rumbeling the noise gets.

I can hear it all over the place, ranging from menu to racing. Esp. one song from the music libary seems to produce it a lot (the kinda drum and bass track).

When I switch to DD it's fine ...

Seems either the PS3 sound chip has a problem producing really really low hz sounds, or GT5 is just not feeding the chip with the correct input. Either way it's pretty annoying.

What I fear most is that static low hz sound is pretty good at killing speakers ... and that bubbeling sound ... makes my speakers sound like they are dieing ...

Thanks for this thread.I use an optical cable as well.

I just changed my sound from DTS to Dolby Digital and it sounds a lot better.Heck it seems as though the sound has gotten better/louder.

i recon strange lag noises sometimes i pass a car!

i hear the sound braaaaam braaaaaaam braaaaaam and when im near or i hit em while i pass it goes braaaaaaaaaaaaamrrrrrratatatatattatatataaattatatatatrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr till he is far way behind, then it stops and everything sounds fine, lol thats strange!

I haven't got any popping sounds, but with my Slim plugged into my Sony DAV-DZ260 (not exactly high end!) via an optical cable, I have a strange glitch where, when I'm at high speed, estimated at 180+mph, my left audio channel, both front and rear, cuts out if I steer to the left. If I'm only slightly steering left it will cut in and out rapidly and sound horrible, and when it cuts out for long periods of time it makes me feel like I'm deaf or something...

I'm not sure what profile I have set, I think I've checked the first three boxes in the manual audio settings list, I think DTS is one of them. Before this thread I never thought to change that setting but I will after this race and see what happens.

Update: Even after setting the output to just Dolby 5.1, the glitch is still there...

Been running DTS on my 5.1 system, haven't noticed any issues - sounds awesome IMO. I'll check the normal 5.1 output and see if I notice a difference.

I have the same issues with my sound (Z-5500). Tried a bunch of different settings, but nothing works... It still sounds like crap :/
Has anyone found a solution?

There are all kinds of weird bugs when using DTS 5.1 over an optical cable.

I use an optical digital cable for audio, and I have to de-select DTS 5.1 in the XMB sound settings menu. Then the game uses Dolby Digital instead of Dolby DTS for 5.1 surround without any problems... Except now I have to go back into the XMB menu every time I want to watch a blu-ray and re-select DTS from the list, and then click it off every time I play GT5.

Logitech Z5500 Here also with optical.

Think ill switch back to Dolby Digital instead of DTS.

Ill try changing from Small Theatre to Large etc...

Never had a problem with DTS! It sounds fantastically :D

BTW DTS normally sounds a lot better than DD, the bitrate is often more than doubled in DTS than the one in DD

Are you using 5.1 or 7.1 surround Vanon?
5.1, and never had any prob with any other DTS game (uncharted2, infamous just to name a few) or movie!

EDIT: the only time I had a similar problem (crackling sound) was when I connected my pc (x-fi soundcard) to the amp, I chose an khz frequency not compatible with my amp so the sound became disturbed and the dts/DD wasn't even recognized, the amp simply output the sound straight

I've have what seems to be in interruption in the signal going to my amp (marantz sr5600) only when i'm playing this game, does not happen when playing a blu ray or other games. it's annoying and it happens when i'm in dd or dts using an optical cable. it's does the same thing with my turtle beach x41's. i've checked all of the cables and tried with and without my headphones hooked up and it doesnt seem to make any difference.

Same issue here. It happens at this speed with any car at any track (that I've tried so far). The sound is horribly unsettling at the volume I race at. I'm passing 5.1 channel audio (PCM, DTS, DD @ all Hz) over HDMI to my Yamaha. For Blu-ray playback my setup is almost flawless. Please help..!?!

P.S.: Is it just me or is the wind noise not nearly as good (prominent) as it was in Prologue?

I've experienced sound cut outs on my Denon AVR-2310. Not had this with any other game. I have a PS3 slim configured to output 5.1 PCM over HDMI.

It could well be the amplifier, because switching it off and on again brings back the sound, but why not with any other game?

I had the same issue before. I know from pass experiences, my HTS does not handle DTS audio very well, so I disabled the DTS option in PS3 sound settings. Now im only using Dobly Digital 5.1 now. No issues anymore.

5.1 DTS over optical cable is still full of bad sound in GT5. Does anyone know if there's a way to fix it? It's still a major inconvenience for me since I have to change the PS3 audio settings every time I switch to and from blu-rays, to keep the surround sound working right.

Maybe the upcoming patch will fix it.

dude i'm using logitech z5500 5.1 digital speakers and gt5 runs on dts and the sound is perfect, and ofcourse its connected via optical audio cable, and in game options says dts 5.1 ch too,and its automatic (game sets sound output to dts by itself) maybe you're using bad optical cable?

OK, I've got an iPad here. I think they have a camera and mic right? Is it possible for me to record a video and put it on utube or somewhere to demonstrate the problem? I'm an iPad newbie.

Thats odd, I use DTS 5.1 with an optical cable and I've never heard any of these things, do you think it may be your stereo system?

Same here DTS 5.1 and i do have it loud sometimes with a THX certified amp and 2 rel subs.
I would try a different optical lead.

I have PS3 via TOSLINK Optical cable, and my receiver supports both DTS and Optical, older, so no HDMI sound,

I get wierd sound on some cars and tracks, as if half of engine sound missing, (from rear) probably due to the fact that I don't have my rear speakers hooked up, so I use Dolby digital (I think) to simulate just front 3 speakers.

I still don't think I'm using best possible sound, but its playable. I have a heck of a hard time hearing my own car in Deep Forest track though.

Can anyone share here, how to set the PS3 to force DTS, or Dolby settings?

I just assumed it uses any it selects via cable that is used. I'm not sure I have the optimal settings. Do we just check, uncheck the sampling settings, ie 44 , 48 , 96 K, or is there another screen to play with settings? never ventured too far.

Earlier in the thread, I explained... It shouldn't be the optical cord that's wrong since I play blu-rays all the time in 5.1 DTS. I'll try to get a video camera from my family and record a vid of the problem. Everything I've ever played on the PS3 has worked just fine, it's only GT5 that has the problem.

I thought it happened to everyone... I'm discouraged now that some are able to get 5.1 DTS through an optical cable. I use 1080p over HDMI for video, and optical digital for 5.1 Dolby Digital and Dolby DTS. In case you're wondering.

There are even bugs playing with 5.1 Dolby Digital. They happen during NASCAR events when I center on a car a long distance ahead of me for drafting. Every time, the engine sound cuts in and out.

Does anyone know if there's a way to send in a bug report?

You need to have the two uppermost options checked, and if you're not going to use PCM, uncheck all the rest. If you want to force DD, uncheck DTS and reversed for DTS. DTS is a lot better than DD, but lots of people claim that they can't hear any difference, so if DTS is acting up, use DD.

Check the setting in GT5. I use small theater in GT5 as I think the dynamic range is better that way.

I have some audio glitches with my GT5, different to what I have read here. I tend to get a buzzing in one or more channels at odd points in a race. It doesn't shift or change volume/pitch at all, and it lasts between 10-60 seconds. I've noticed it on quite a few tracks and in different cars too. My audio is normally set to Large Theatre and I am using 7.1 bitstream through HDMI to my Onkyo amp. Any ideas? Could it be a glitch?

Dude, I know. My whole problem is that I have to keep going to that menu in order to switch from watching a blu-ray to playing GT5. DTS 5.1 audio in GT5 is just horrible. I had to use DD. And just yesterday, I found out that even DD has problems. (when catching a long-distance draft).

I may just start to use two channel audio and force my receiver to 2.1 speakers. Which is still a pain in the ass. WTF. :(. I wish somebody knew a way to report bugs.

I got lazy and accidentally loaded GT5 today with DTS enabled.

It was either patch 1.11 or 1.12 that fixed the DTS problems I've been having. The game sounds great. I'm only in an online lobby by myself so I'll see if it's working everywhere now...
