You can get a GALLON of clear coat for usually around $150.00 with the hardener. Its not that expensive at all. .Yeah I would definitely get it clear coated, but it is expensive. I think it's somewhere around $150/quart.
What transmission does this have? Did you clean up that engine bay?
That's why I installed a 6 speed into my 69 Camaro 10 years ago. At 70mph I am only somewhere around 1,750 rpm.Ah, ok, now that I think about it in third you should be spinning about 2700. That's normal. Welcome to owning an old car
Builletproof is what I was hoping for, but I know nothing about paint. Too late did i realize that having no clear coat makes the paint very very easy to scratch with no way to buff it out.

EDIT: I just called and confirmed it is indeed 1 gallon of clear and 1 quart of hardener for $150.00. That's enough to easily do an entire car inside and out multiple coats.

Or he could go with a 700R4. Very easy upgrade.
That's if you purchase the clear coat from a local professional paint shop and spray it yourself. I am guessing you just confused quarts with gallons. Easy to do especially if you don't paint on a regular basis. Is this at a professional body shop or doing it yourself? I don't have a sprayer and that's what they quoted me. :/
Maybe I was thinking per gallon and not quart
700R4's are great transmissions.

Yes 700r4s are a great replacement for the TH350 especially if you are driving on the highway. I helped a friend convert his th350 over several years ago. We did it in a few hours. Very easy swap. Just have to watch the shifter linkage and the cross member.
The gas mileage saved with this 700R4 would eventually pay for the transmission. Well worth it plus it will save wear and tear on your engine since it wont be revving so high all the time.
Oh yeah if you are mainly just using it for autocross or track events then the TH350 will be more than enough. Its when you start doing the long haul when you will start really wanting a 700R4. If you only drive locally and don't make long trips you will be fine with the TH350.Yea the price was close for the swap, but the rear pinon bearing is going out so I need to spend that money on rebuilding the rear end before it xplodes. With the cost of a new tranny, needed accessories and logistics I just couldn't afford it at this time.
I plan to focus on refreshing the chassis after I rebuild the rear end. The th350 will serve me well at the autocross and track when I get to it for the time being.
