what do you guys prefer and also why. I never understood why people compete for which is better. I prefer e- break but i want to get your guy's opinion because i still cosider myself a 'noob'

Usually people use throttle. Some people just think the e-brake if for novice drivers.

It kinda depends because wheel drifters don't need to use the e brake to initiate, but the e brake makes it easier for controller drifters to initiate

I am a wheel drifter and I never touch the handbrake. Mostly throttle/clutch kicks.

Although, If I want a really long entry, I pull the handbrake.

Clutch kicks/down shift full throttle for low speed corners and E-brakes for high speed corners.

I use throttle for most corners and e-brake if I stuff up so I can get my angle back for the next corner

this is my method too but i sometimes like to gear shift to keep my drift on long corners instead of e-brake cuz the e-brake shows more.

I don't see why people consider people who use the e-brake as noobs... it's just another tool to use when needed.

They both work and are a different path for the same outcome, drift. I don't know which I use more because I don't really think about it.

There is also break drift, dirt drop, and feint.

Lol it's what it sounds like, you just let one side of your car go off the track before you steer into the turn. It's just another way to break traction.

* when needed *

I think the n00bs these people envision when they picture ebrake drifters are the people who take their civic in the snow and ebrake slide around stuff . . .

ebrake is good for maintaining a zero radius slide, either entering or combining two corners.

i dont know if its me but i cant slide out the rear as easy with throttle so iuse the e-break, but all the professional drifters use the e-break so how is it for noobs

ohh, well I don't count that as drifting, thats just sliding around, and yes, they are noobs.

I'm talking about like text book definition drifting, not what someone who calls a drift whenever the tires lose traction haha

then it depends . . . I think if you can spin your wheel, shift your gears and STILL find time to ebrake . . . all the power to you, infact you ought to earn kudos for the lightning hands

but for the humans . . . its probably easier to just adjust your brake balance slightly to the rear, feint a lil harder and utilize the clutch.

I have found that the ebrake is somewhat of a clutch for ds3, if you tap it in a straight line while your press the gas and turn the moment you release it it will be like a clutch kick . .. would be nice to have a clutch button though then you have more options

Like most should, I use throttle, of course lol. Only use E-Brake IF I have to such as correcting my line. It's a normal thing to do.

Don't see why everyone is comparing the techniques. Variety is the spice of life and the rule is likewise for drifting techniques. It all depends on the situation and which tools you have handy to initiate the drift, some will work better than others and that's what you lean towards to, the most comfortable technique you can perform before the corner to break traction.

I use throttle to drift unless I'm using a 4WD then I use the E-Brake, but I hardly use 4WD because you will get categorised with no talent 11 year olds who think speeding into a corner on racing softs, pressing R1 then slamming R2 and hoping you make it out = drift king!!

Literally ding that is what showed me that you could drift cars on Gran Turismo 4!

This is all true, but a driver going into a fast entry without relying on the handbrake gets my respect everytime.

I actually keep changing my entries. I hardly think about it, i just do it. I guess for me if i need to use the handbrake i would if not i try using braking and throttle.

Not only that people shouldn't really judge on someones technique if they can make it stick then there's nothing wrong with that.

I do that on high speed ring on the S turn. For that course I like to enter at a certain speed and rely on my throttle control, amazing im better at passing people on the outside :P people usually don't expect it

I use the throttle most of the time, but sometimes use the Handbrake to get a bit more angle mid corner or a good entry angle.

I sometimes use the normal brake to throw my car's butt over the track, really helpful especially with 4WD/AWD cars. I'm never using the handbrake anyway, I can't seem to control the back after using it.

Throttle/normal brakes FTW /,,/

If I'm in a tandem and I was leading I would NEVER use the e-brake because it causes me to slow down and the chaser crashes into me. But, if your a chaser and you are just about to hit the guy yank the e-brake and its back to normal "D

i good drifter will use all the tools needs to achieve a drift, just cause you can initiate a drift with or without e-brake doesn't make anyone better. imo a good drifter is someone who can apply all of the techniques, on all kinds of different situations..

using the ebrake does take some skill also.. not to initiate a drift. but to maintain one. much more is are going on simultaneously.for example when tandem drifting.. initiate drift, maintain throttle, keep angle, pull ebrake ( tandem situation) down shift to keep rpms. ect ect.. all while drifting door to door.., much more so with a wheel.

i never initiate a drift with the e-brake unless i want a long entry. but i use it quite often when doing tandems and touge. i mix it up.. but i prefer power over.. and since i have a g27 thier are many more techniques you can apply simply because of the clutch.

a good drifter is one who can apply all the tools is his little bag of tricks... imo
