Guys its simple PS3 3D will be compatible with all HDMI 1.4 3DTV Displays.

The whole reason for this is to ensure compatibility with all manufacturers, so if its a 600HZ plasma, a 200HZ LED or even a LCD none of that matters. Two things simple to remember 1.4 Spec and 3D Ready (meaning glasses and sensor bought seperate) or built in (meaning glasses provided and sensor built in)

All 3DTV and Projectors that ahdere to the 1.4 Spec can deal with various formats of 3D signals Top/Bottom or Side/Side and progressive or interlaced.
Once the hardware can detect and decode the 3D Sync then how that hardware displays 3D either via the most popular form using "Shutter Technology" or "Passive Glasses" like for instance LG use on their $10,000 3D Projector isnt a factor.

So future screens that use new or improved glasses or indeed no glasses will maintain compatibility with current 3DTV content/braodcasts.

So is 1.4 an official standard now?

Thanks, that is good concise info. Where did you find this? I would like to read more about it, but obviously you've found a source for this info which I haven't been able to find.

You also mention the projector option, which will hopefully be another way to bring to cost down a bit.

All previous HDMI versions are official standards for manufacturers to commit to, the first 1.4 devices were mainly some 3DTV models and 3D Blu Ray Players.

Yes some HDMI 1.3 devices can also support 3D (PS3 is an example) but for a consumer to be ensured of compatibility the new 1.4 3DTV spec displays will give that. This ensures you could match up any brand of 3D Blu Ray Player or to any brand of 3DTV that both have 1.4 spec. You will also need a hispeed 1.4 HDMI cable as well however as older HDMI cables may not work.

For info look on the HDMI official website.
There are also videos, 3D based websites, and of course forums specific to AV and in particular 3DTV out there.

Who said we have never tried it?
Well to my knowledge GT5 in 3D has ony been demonstrated at a handful of venues. Some of those were for select closed functions. So Id assume 99.9% of the people at GT Planet here have not actually played it themselves. If youve played it then consider yourself lucky but 3D is one of those things people just dont seem to always agree on. Avatar at the cinema blew some people away others were not impressed at all. Yes some of that depends on the individual and the venue they seen it in but 3D has very mixed opinions depending who you speak to.

Not to be a jerk but did this really need its own thread?

Well excuse me but what threads are their here on GT Planet that try to look at 3D and be factual or gather reports from sources that have experienced it. The thread is for people to read the good and the bad reports that appear from varous sources and gather them in one place and to discuss it.

I hope you enter all the threads discussing things that arent even confirmed for GT5 or threads based on peoples wishes and ask if they are really needed as well. If so you could be busy for some time.

I've heard back from a few companies making Goggles now. A number of them support current 3D methods, but only one of them (Vuzix) claimed to be working on an HDMI adapter which will "support whatever the current HDMI 3D standard is". Unfortunately since the adaptor doesn't exist yet it's vaporware in my mind. Until I see one in my hands I'll work under the assumption that it will never exist.

The other promising company is iTVGOGGLES, who make the ITG-HQ3DPRO. That supports VGA input and the nvidia 3D vision system, so I suppose if they get cracking they might be able to build an adapter. Their tech-support was helpful and enthusiastic.

That's the best I've been able to come up with so far.

True, and the new Sony 3D TVs that they were using for the GT5 3D demos used shutters. Hopefully, Sony is smart enough to ship two pairs of goggles with their TVs. 'Cause whatever USELESS idiot thought that just releasing a 3D TV without the goggles needs to be beaten with an old shoe.

Some of the Sony models are 3D capable which means you require a 3D transmitter & glasses which is an additional £49/£100. One Sony model is 3D ready and doesn't require a transmitter and has glasses included but is obviously more expensive.

Yesterday I watched a Sony 3D presentation at my local John Lewis store. All I will say is I was blown away and the quality was miles better than I was expecting. I really cannot put express how impressed I was. If I had a spare £2000 I would of bought one straight away.

Worth mentioning that I was more impressed with the Sony than the Samsung models.

I think 3D is a good feature, but what they need to do is have a lot of 3D effects when you use 3D, such as driving in interior dash view and the steering wheel seems to pop out of the screen, things like that.

I use a Sony Vpl-Vw40, I don't think that's 3D compatible is it?

Agree 100%,

From what my good friends at TQcast have told me is that GT5 is onpoint with 3D, other games they were not impressed by but GT5 got them burning for 3DTVs.

Im on the boarder if i should get one, Im just not sure if i could be bother wearing goggles for extend gaming sessions? i might wait till its closer to launch and might have demos in stores to see if its worth it.
3D is impressive from what i have seen so far in terms of movies and sport.

A new report from gamesradar: 3D only running at 30fps ?
At least, he says, it doesn't feel like 60fps in 3D.

Gran Turismo has been a 60fps game ever since GT3 on PS2. I don’t care what the machine and TV are technically throwing out. If the 120fps screen update and 60fps for each eye were in fact running at full whack, it didn’t look like it to me. I'd swear the game I was playing was running at 30fps. Like Gran Turismo 1.

Update:
GTP member MildAshers reported the same.

Update 2:
It's great though, and in 3D its very impressive (and still 60fps but with 15fps replays for now - they have obviously halved that from 30fps replays with all the post-pro, hopefully they will turn off post-pro so replays can go back up to 60fps).

Brining this thread back up top!

Has anyone figured out if any VR glasses i.e. VR920 are compatible with GT5?

I'm wondering about both the 3d and the headtracking feature.

Can you plug in the Vr920 to usb and have it display the 3d image? Would there be full support for head tracking with the VR 920 on GT5?

Currently this won't work. As far as I can determine nobody currently makes any 3D goggles which will work with the PS3. :grumpy:

I did try one "reasonably priced" solution (it failed). I started a new thread with my findings here since it is general PS3 stuff, and not really specific to GT5:

3d in 1080p would be awsome, but it effects a little the FPS
in 720p doesn't effect
if you are in 360p or 480p go to hell
