Early G27 Review! The wheel to get for GT5?

That's actually a hard question. I mean, the G25 has the sequintial shifter, but the gears are clunky, the G27 is much less clunky with gears, and it's a quieter wheel with better FFB. Might want to ask an expert, but i'd get the G27 if i didn't have the G25 already

...I'm new to GT and sim racing and I have no idea if those things are something I might want to invest in...

I'm the same but really want to get a wheel.
I'm indecisive as to whether to buy the DFGT with the traction control alteration buttons or the G25 or 27 with the 6 speed shifter:scared:. I was also wondering if you can program the buttons on the G27 to do the same or something similar to the traction control alteration buttons on the DFGT. Could someone please give me some advice on that?:indiff:
Thanks:tup::):sly:

P.S. Looks are not a priority :):)

I have a question, is the Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS wheel a better alternative to the G27? I'm not buying a $300 steering wheel with a low quality clamp. The reason why I'm asking is because I broke the G25 when the right clamp snaps in half and I need a new gaming wheel for the PC. This becomes a problem to Logitech's wheel construction. I am using my Logitech Driving Force Pro for now until my Fanatec 911 Turbo S wheel arrives at my cousin's house. If anybody can answer this, I'll be here to look it up.

Thanks,
JB

In GT5p you can program the buttons on the g25 to control the dial functions of the dfgt.
Really though you don't use the dials that much, at least I don't. Maybe they will be used more in GT5 but I don't know how. So far the dials just seem to be a novelty.

Can anyone tell me the length of the pedal unit? I own the first version of the Playseat, which has a very short plate for the pedal unit:

If the G25/G27 pedal unit is too long, it won't fit on the plate.

You can hardmount both the G25 and Fanatec wheels to get around that problem. Stock mount on the Fanatec wheels aren´t perfect either. You can get the clubsport table clamp which I do recommend if you don´t want to make holes in your table :)

Stock clamp does work okay on the GT 3 RS but you often tend to tilt it towards you at times.

Otherwise yes I do preferr the GT 3 RS over the G25. Never owned the G27 so don´t know how much difference the slightly thicker wheel and helical gears do :)

to the guy asking about Fanatec compared to the G27.

i tried a Fanatec Turbo wireless (PS3/PC only) wheel and had tons of problems with both the wheel and then the company itself when it came to the warranty process.

i now have a G27 and i like it a lot. there are a few pro's and cons to both wheels, but overall i prefer the G27. i would have a very hard time recommending Fanatec to anybody after the experience i had unless they drastically improve their products and their customer service as well.

It's a bit shame, sequential shifter is gone in G27, I'll have to wait for another new one.

Does this mean G27's shifter is incompatible in most games that use manual sequential shifter (and leaves me playing only automatic transmission)?

nope, only certain games. the only two issues i have come across so far are Supercar Challenge and GT5P.

the paddles do work in NFS Shift, Dirt 2, F1CE, and also with GT4 and Toca 3 for PS2.

supposedly Logitech is trying to work with Sony/PD to try to get it to work with GT5p. and i would expect the issue to be resolved before GT5.

Oh man, I forgot to put 'PS2'. You sure GT4 and TOCA 3 supports H-shifter? I've seen G25's list of compatible games before, and no PS2 games supports 6-speed shifter listed (not even in G27).
But anyway, thanks.

I returned my G27 today, it would not stay calibrated, in the middle of a race I would need to hold the wheel in a turn to go straight!
I would unplug the USB after the race & it would center itself again but it would lose the calibration in the next race.
I thought I'd just return it & get my $$$ back since it wasn't the ideal setup for the PS3 & none of my games officially supported it.

Well I changed my mind.
After I packed up the G27 I put the DFGT back on the stand & started playing Supercar challenge.
I'd only had the G27 a week but damn the DFGT felt like a toy!
So instead of getting my money back I brought home a new G27.
Now if this one messes up too I will return it for a refund & wait to see what comes out with GT5!

Think it would be great if Logitech came up with an optional sequential shifter, to replace
the H-mode shifter. Don't know 'bout the costs though...

I'm surprised they couldn't just have a simple mod in software that would see forward and backward movements of the shifter as up and down. Not as precise feeling, but might do.
