My year old Basset Hound has a thing for the plastic shift knobs on my G27. The first one he completely destroyed the whole shifter. Luckily my second shifter lasted a few months before he chewed the knob off.
Not wanting to order a third shifter I started playing around with what I had laying around the garage. This is what I came up with......
The shift knob I used is a Hurst que ball that came off of my Cobra. The threaded insert is a 12mm x 1.75.
With the original knob removed I took a piece of heat shrink and shrunk it down on the out side of the rod. Then simply just screwed the new knob onto the heat shrink. The knob cut threads into the heat shrink and tightens down pretty tight.
I have been using it now for a month and it has yet to move.
