Hey guys. I finally got my storefront filled up a bit so I thought I'd go ahead and finally make a thread.

Loving the tutorials.. any hint's on Work-flows.. I keep working through design's and then wishing I'd put something under a particular layer etc... if you get what I'm rambling on about, any tips would be great.

Thanks for the information.. I'm off to try it now.

So much awsomness! Great tips. I know I am not the most artistic, but I still like to paint all my cars. This is great info, and the videos are perfect to see how it actually gets created.

So much work for such a small piece!

Thanks again.

Great tips, indeed.

I'll tell you what, you take those informative posts, create a new thread and offer up additional tutorials or tips (at your sole discretion of course) and you've got yourself a sticky. 👍

I've seen some absolutely stunning paint jobs. I'm new to Forza with Forza 4. I knew you could create your own paint jobs. but my god some people are really good. There's no web based app to create these right? All with a controller and on game? If so i'm stunned...

How many hours do you put into each livery would you say?

They are simply superb.

I've been getting faster and faster. One of my biggest issues right now is that I spend a lot of time getting logos to look right even though they're very small. A logo can take me anywhere from 15-30+ minutes but I'm usually watching TV or something while I do it so it isn't so bad. I happen to find it pretty relaxing.

A closer look at some of the logo work on the falken gt

I've been cutting the habit of making everything PERFECT on logos that will never be large sized but I do run a "free logo of the day" deal on my storefront. For the logos that make the "logo of the day" cut, I basically resize them up and make sure that all of the shapes align so that they can be used at any size. Most of the other stuff isn't as perfect.

Heh. With all the cars I've made, there are always design compromises you have to make to get them to work within Forza. The Ford GT in particular has a couple of areas that are difficult to work with. I'll talk about them here but if you have OCD you should probably ignore this part because I'm going to discuss some inaccuracies in the design I've made.

I don't want people to get the impression that I don't even consider these "errors" before releasing a design. I've done crazy things like completely warping a logo the reverse the car's warps.

1) The top of the rear bumper has to be painted by painting the from the top back of the car. To me this isn't a huge deal; I basically just painted the top black and ignored it. There is a black box at the back of the car but it is easy to dismiss. The big change is that the GT2 and arrow pointing to the tow hook don't start at the top of the bumper like in the real car. I made this decision because placing them in the correct spot would show up on the top of the car and I decided it would be too difficult to dismiss if it was a black box AND the top of some white boxes at the back of the car.

2) The GT has another zone along the fender flare that is a complete nightmare to work on. I've completely avoided these areas on the design which is one of the reason the FIKSE logo and PATENT.COM logo are in the incorrect places. I've also moved the EMCO logo on the rear flare (not shown in above pictures) because of the same thing.

It's a conscience decision on my part to relocate these things. In my mind, if the owners of these cars were contstrained to Forza's systems and they were putting sponsors on their cars, they would never let something like warped logos fly (and neither would their sponsors!). Note that I haven't resized the FIKSE logo at all, the area you can work in there is narrow but gets stretched out. I toyed with several solutions including making half of the logo more narrow than the other hallf but it just didn't look right so I made a compromise.

I hope you can understand and forgive me. :embarrassed:

eek,

I got a great deal in the Auction house for a slightly used #40 Robertson Racing Ford GT - It looks really nice in my garage with a new coat of Falken Paint on it!

Nice work on the Design and your logo placement to get around those glitched areas! (I'm dealing with that now as well on my MarcVDS Design)

BTW: Are you using the HD PVR for your screen captures? Been thinking about getting one as they have it at my local FRy's and Best Buy.

Glad you like it. My favorite thing in this game besides painting and racing has to be just staring at people's livery work in the homespace.

Yeah I use a Hauppauge HD PVR 1212 for my capture stuff. I've had it for 2-3 years now and the price is still the same. It's a super niche product that uses the component loophole to capture @ 720p. They have a "Hauppuage HD PVR Gamer" now which is the same thing but comes with a split cable to connects to both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

That option should be pretty awesome if you own both consoles. Right now I have a component switch which I plug my consoles into which then feeds into the HD PVR which feeds into my monitor.

If you're already running component it's a good set-up. The other options are some of the intensity blackmagic products which can handle HDMI. There is another one too but I forget the brand off the top of my head. If you're going the HDMI route check on audio options because I know one of the products has to have a program record the audio seperately or something.

Some cars are worse than others. The Ford GT isn't bad as long as you stay away from the fenders. You don't really get an appreciation for some of the designers' work until you try to work on a car with a really bad warp zone and then see other people's work where logos are placed perfectly inside them.

This one kind of came out of the blue. Someone requested that I make it since the ones available now weren't accurate enough.

Refreshed a FM3 design so I could work on my fake vents so I can try to make a vent/flare tutorial. 👍

Also started my next project which is going very well right now :D

Here is a peek at my newest design. Just putting the finishing touches on it now 👍

The grey stripe is reverse metallic which was tricky to work with and pushed my layer counts on the sides to around 800.

Very nice thread and good tips!! :)

Thanks buddy.

Here are some pictures of the Hankook 458GT. It's available on my storefront now for free. I don't know if you need to have the DLC to download it or not.

This is up there with the XJ as one of my favorite liveries I've done.
