It is? In what way?
Well, you've inspired me into writing down what I like and dislike. This is what came quickly to mind, there's probably more.

Pros
  • Instant torque and quick acceleration. It’s quicker off the mark than our Corvette up to about 50-60 mph.
  • They absolutely nailed the one pedal driving experience. Most cars allow you tinker with the balance, but once Tesla got it perfect, they took that option out of the software.
  • The UI is great both in the iPhone app and in the car
  • Good ride with minimal road and wind noise
  • Automatic seat and steering wheel heating works really well
  • Remote control of the climate system via the app
  • Rear seats also have heaters which can be turned on ahead of time via the app. Our friends get in the car on a bitter winter night and let out sighs of delight, which is fun
  • Surprisingly responsive handling (I avoided a crash when I thought it would be inevitable)
  • FSD is not “full self driving” but it’s a great assist that adds safety and reduces fatigue. Has avoided at least one nasty crash that I didn’t see coming. I will re-subscribe when Musk steps down from Tesla. I might even do it earlier simply because of the safety angle. But it is nowhere near “full” self driving. Musk is delusional.
  • Tesla Supercharger network is fast, reliable, and well-located. And pricing is reasonable.
  • The car and app do a great job of planning charging stops on trips, that said, the last time I used a Supercharger was last October!
  • Prediction of State Of Charge along the route is astoundingly accurate
  • At-home charging is convenient and reliable, takes seconds to plug in and it works every time
  • Over-the-air software updates work great
  • Phone and watch as key is massively convenient
  • Sentry Mode & Dashcam features improve peace of mind and security. I can check on what the car is seeing while I’m, say, in a restaurant.
  • “Keep”, “Dog Mode” and “Camp Mode” are convenient
  • Spacious interior for 4 tall people
  • Great cargo space for its size, including the frunk and extra space in the rear
  • The glass roof creates a bright and airy feeling especially for rear seat passengers
  • I like the uncluttered interior appearance
  • Integrated Netflix etc podcasts etc are useful. For example, I drove the better half to a medical appointment in the city and watched an episode comfortably in the car
  • The Light Show, “emissions control” 💨, romantic fireplace, Santa mode etc are good fun. I like “whimsy” and there’s a lot of it in this car

Cons
  • Elon Musk
  • Finding the external and internal door handles in the dark can be hard. That's annoying (but not as annoying as Musk)
  • Elon Musk
  • No Apple Carplay (and while voice commands work well for me, it's not good at understanding dictated text messages)
  • Elon Musk
  • The automatic wipers sometimes do a single wipe on a dry day. They use the front cameras to detect rain, and it's not perfect
  • Elon Musk

Not enough Elon Musk cons.

Lol, is it even a car you’re describing? Your pros list says more about how far off course the automotive industry, and humanity itself really, has gone. I mean, if you think watching netflix while being behind the wheel is a good thing I fear what we’ve become. No wonder things are going the way they are.

Never mind, that’s just my opinion.

Have you driven a Tesla? The model 3 I drove really is an excellent car. It's a boring car, for sure. It's fast, digital, and boring. It makes driving somewhat disconnected, but it also makes it very very comfortable and easy. And honestly, most of the time I drive, that's what I want.

Sometimes I want something fun, and then it's not the right car.

Disclaimer: I've never owned, driven, or even sat in a Tesla, and nor do I have any plans to. For context I drive a 2006 Honda Jazz, make of that what you will.

I'm curious what your issue is with things like "Good ride with minimal road and wind noise" and "Spacious interior for 4 tall people" and "Great cargo space for its size". I don't see how all cars should be cramped and uncomfortable or the human race is doomed makes any sense.

I mean, if you think watching netflix while being behind the wheel is a good thing I fear what we’ve become. No wonder things are going the way they are.

I can see how you got to that interpretation from what @GBO Possum wrote, but the way I read it is he drove his partner to a medical appointment and whilst the appointment was happening, sat in the stationary car and watched Netflix in the same way you might flick a TV on at home.

Yes, I was "behind the wheel" while watching Netflix. Understandably, the software won't allow video to be played unless the system is in "Park". I'm not sure how this is responsible for destroying the way "things should be".

Did I say I have an issue with anything, let alone all of his pros? I just find it funny that much of what he described sounds more like a computer or living room than a car, but I’m just old fashioned I guess.

Also, great cargo space for it’s size? The footprint of Teslas, and most other modern cars, are huge compared to older cars. Have you seen an old Volvo wagon? That’s great cargo space for it’s size.

Alright, I misunderstood. I do find being so eager to watch Netflix that you have to do it in a car is kinda funny, though. Again, I’m probably just old fashioned but I like to watch TV on a TV… in a living room.

I'll explain.

I like being with my wife, and by driving her to the city and back for a medical appointment, we get to have over two+ extra hours together.

I choose not to sit in a hospital waiting room, since I prefer to avoid catching bugs.

So I have time on my hands, time I sometimes use to read a book, listen to a podcast, or watch some streaming content in the car. You have it backwards. I'm not "so eager to watch Netflix that I have to do it in a car". It's that I'm in a car which gives me the opportunity to sit in a very comfortable seat, at a very comfortable temperature, watch content on a good quality screen supported by a good quality sound system away from crowds. I would prefer to take my living room with me, I just haven't figured out the logistics yet.

There's a reason why modern cars tend to be larger than old Volvo station wagons. Think about it.

Oh, you don’t have to. Everyone’s different, and me thinking something is funny shouldn’t hurt anyone.

I’m 35 years old but in many ways as grumpy and old fashioned as an 85 year old.

The only reason I can think of is safety, although the weight increase makes them less safe in a way. Oh, and maybe that people for some weird reason likes big cars.

So you see yourself as being grumpier and more old fashioned than I am, given our relative attitudes towards modern automobiles?

That's odd, because I will celebrate my 83rd birthday next month.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think the point here is @GBO Possum likes his car, which is fine, hopefully we all like our cars - the issue arising is whether that then deserves the more absolute statement he made - "It is a great car". The Pros & Cons list is bound to be somewhat subjective since a lot of it comes down to what we each need or want from a car.

The issue about Netflix etc. is a separate one. Personally I agree with Strittan, but that's not a Tesla issue, that's a much broader issue with the quality in film and TV media rotting away in favour of convenience.

I think some of it comes down to the many changes and QoL eliments that electric cars offer over ICE cars. Especially fo those who see a car as just personal transport. There can't be many people who are on their 2nd or 3rd electric car, so they have little to directly compare it to other than the obvious EV vs ICE differences.

Not really if you ask me, because as I said, everyone is different.

That, and people’s constant need to feed their brains with entertainment of some sort without giving it a break, which I guess goes hand in hand with what you’re saying.

Anyway, I could go on for days about why I hate modern cars and the current state of a lot of things, but this thread is about another thing I hate - Elon Musk.

Elon spent a quarter of a billion dollars (plus leveraging Xitter) to get an anti-free trade (Concepts-Of-A-Plan™) guy elected and now that the market is tanked, (and he's losing tens or hundreds of billions), he's suddenly promoting the Milton Friedman pro-free trade speech given in 1980.

You don't have to be a genius to know that finding a gently-sloping path down to the beach is a better idea than jumping off the Tariff Cliff™ if only because if the path turns out to be too rocky, you can turn back before doing too much damage. That's on Trump.

You don't have to be a genius to know that backing a Concepts-Of-A-Plan™ guy makes about as much sense as playing Russian Roulette

Musk (and other tech titans) get to learn first hand why you cannot trust Trump.

I don't usually condone cyber-bullying... usually. In this case I will make an exemption.

Sure, Elon is a **** bloke but how many times do you have to repeat the same thing? I understand the sentiment but this is just too much. Just say your piece and bugger off because apathy is worse than hate.

Chat flooding is a common troll tactic on livestreams. Most have moderators or a filter set up to block that quickly if it starts, and to be honest I'm a bit surprised Elon doesn't have a small army of mods vetting every single message that comes through to protect his fragile, bulbous ego ensure a quality viewing experience.

That said... dude got caught lying about how good he is at video games before, did he really think people weren't going to take the opportunity to grief the hell out of him after that?

This statement was made on a video game web forum.
What does that have to do with anything? Are you implying that you or I or anyone who posts on a video game forum are in constant need for entertainment?

+1.

Elon wanted to be part of the gamer community, a chat like that comes with it. Gotta have thick skin if you're gonna broadcast yourself live on the internet, esp. if people find out you've been lying about your gaming claims.

Nope, apathy is what lets people like Elon use their power to do whatever the hell they want. Elon has repeatedly proven that he's an insufficiently responsible adult to have access to that level of power. I think it's absolutely reasonable that people should be using whatever methods they have available to socially pressure him into not being an awful human being.

Spamming his chat is incredibly mild, gamers can and have done much, much worse things to people in the name of bullying.

It means that you should at least understand the appeal of entertainment and why some people might partake of it when they have some downtime.

If someone had been playing GT4 on a screen in their car while they waited for their partner's medical appointment to be over, would you have felt differently? Because there's really very little difference.

No, why would I?

Edit: What I said was nothing more than a parenthesis, really, but my point was simply that people in general these days tend to always wanna feed their brains with stuff. I mean, I’ve seen people being on the phone talking about nonsense to someone through a whole workout session, instead of just focusing on the workout itself.

I’ve gone way off-topic at this point. Sorry!

Listening to some of the dialogue around less successful streaming shows I've heard people in the industry talk about how shows are being written and directed intended for audiences that are only giving it 50% of their attention, or that it might be vying for your attention versus other things literally whilst you are watching it. These are things streaming companies factor in to how they make what they make. Personally I don't see that as a good thing.

How I wish I could get away with that sort of effort at work.

With how fast chats can move on a popular stream spamming a message like that is really the only way to get their attention, otherwise it would only be on the screen for a split second.
