Engine damage from overtuning

It is well known you don't just go ahead and stick the biggest turbo on the market into your car without doing other work first, or else your engine will likely explode. I would like to see this feature, could be funny seeing someone think bigger is better all the time, and half way through a race he/she overcooked it and the engine blows.

It would be here with this scenario that Polyphony could introduce real world after market parts where we get to choose between equipment made by HKS or Bernstienn etc.

Personally I like the idea, and in previous GT's we've been able to buy parts from different tuning company's.

I'd also like to see parts wear out. Perhaps somthing like when you go to your settings sheet you could see a percentage bar dropping down over time and usage on parts like the clutch etc.

This thought came the other day whilst doing the nurburgring 4hr enduro, I was wondering IRL how long a set of brake pads would last (not long Im guessing) and do they need to change things like this during real 24hr enduros?

A percentage bar would be good, but if there is "Human Drama" coming as Kaz states... why not do what you say and have parts wear, and there would be a requirement for a service or MOT... because race cars are still legally bound to have these anyway.

From the report you could see what needs changing, if the bar idea was not to be taken on. Prefer the bar idea though. Answering your question though, sometimes they do need to change the break pads and in some of the lower funded teams they even need to change brake discs as they can warp!!!

I think from what I've read in different threads alot of people find the current maintenace tedious enough but like it or not its an important part of motoring and even more important in motor racing.

Would need an options list like "replace all parts or all parts with more than 50% wear"

Would be good in a-spec career but even better online, Imagine racing against other people who's sucsess is dependant on looking after their machines.
I can just see it now, going online and seeing all these kids in Red Bull cars with plumes of white smoke coming out of them.

I want to see engine blows and smoke and fire. Part of racing is the durability of the gear. In real racing, things may break after some time and that adds more drama. In GT5 there's nothing to worry about and it gets a bit boring in the long run. Also, in GT5 we've seen some of the spectacular effects from smoke and sparks and such, I want to see how gorgeous they can make a fire in the engine bay look :)

Edit: Especially in night time. It could be awesome. Does this make me seem like a pyromaniac?

I honestly see the less hardcore players being put off by this, unless PD can make this sort of thing optional.

I like this idea. Your tuning would have to be spot on in an endurance competition, and probably just about everything you do. Drafting a car about to blow its stack (then it does) would be epic, and a great Photomode moment begging to be shared.

You are correct in saying this, and to an extent I agree.
What I don't like though, is having to pull out of a race because I forgot to buy squeaky clean new brakes or whatever. It's a GAME. The reason (most) people play games is to have fun, and to do things they cannot in real life.
While maintenance is highly important in the real world, it's still not extremely necessary to the point where you need to open your car's bonnet every other day. GT5's current system represents this nicely, and I want it to stay this way.

Although I agree with engine blowouts and stuff, I feel like boring and annoying things in real life like MOT's wouldn't be interesting in a mainstream racing game.
