Saw this while watching/listening to the Joe Rogan podcast the other day.

It's a very cool, slightly creepy, maybe upsetting video displaying every nuclear explosion since 1945, showing which countries fired them and where they landed.

Hopefully this isn't a repost, my appologies if it is.

Pretty sure there are a lot missing, which makes it even more sad and horrifying.
I'm also certain that these tests are the reason for a lot of cancer in this world.

Source? Just because you know that radiation causes cancer doesn't mean setting off 1,000 bombs in over the span of 50 years in mostly remote settings will cause widespread cancer. I'm not saying you're wrong, I would just like proof.

There are many other reasons people get cancer, and alot of them have to do with what they ingest daily (food, drink).

Taking the video code you embedded in the OP and using in the search box should throw up all of the posts in which that video was posted on GTP.

And it did make for interesting viewing.

Holly 🤬🤬🤬 poor earth. We really are a virus.:guilty:

If only it wasn't for people, then life on Earth would have no grasp of physics and be defenseless from asteroids for all time instead of having a chance of developing a method of defense.

I guess I understand your post, a little, but baseless negative comments against humanity like that are something I find a little annoying. 2000 bombs go off, that could have wiped a country or two off the map, and you almost wouldn't know except for the video.

I know of a couple Nuclear Engineers and Nuclear Physicists that would like to have a word with you on that.

We are a self consuming, destructive species... take it how you want. It's reality.

Self consuming? There has been one noticeable mass population decrease, 1000 years ago, and the reason behind it was identified and fixed.

What other species actively protects the environment anyway? Most organisms would hunt their prey to extinction. Humans have learned that's a bad thing and issue protection to endangered species, rather unique.

If it's the exact same video, sure. If it's the same video but from a different user, it won't show up in his search. You're better off doing what I did - searching for (in this case) posts older than one year containing nuclear and 1945.

Example - do a search for oHg5SJYRHA0.

Now try dQw4w9WgXcQ.

We are self consuming. How many soldiers die a year, hell people in general from other people.

Who endangered these endangered species lately? Indeed we are rather unique.

I like how in school people tell us to fight with words, then in the real world we use our fists/guns.

Much less than the number that would have if language had never been developed and people were unable to use diplomacy and communication to resolve disputes most likely.

You could also ask how many lives are saved a year by human activity. Probably a lot as mortality rates of infants have generally lowered with time. And don't forget that people aren't limited to saving the lives of people, but also other species. People will even go out of their way to preserve rocks if they feel like it.

Extinctions aren't new, so clearly humans aren't the source of endangered species. They're probably the only species that will identify and then correct a harmful impact on the environment that they've caused.

Arguments in school probably aren't worth dieing over. When you have someone trying to take your property or life by force, guns become a very good answer.

How is the southwest United States not one giant, glowing chunk of land?

I suppose dumping a million bombs on the exact same spot can only create so much heat and radiation. The tests were confined to specific sites.

Not all the explosions were super-ultra-mega-bombs. Those flashing lights are merely just representations.

Problem is it isn't enough. The negative effect humanity has on nature is far greater than the positive. Ignoring of course the potential future saving from an apocalyptic asteroid.

I like the way that the US and Soviets tended to test their bombs in their own countries but Britain comes along and just lets them all off in Australia.

:grumpy:

Probably explains a bit in Aus though. Current crop of politicians are a good example.

Cheers Shaun.

Jut watched that vid. It's mental. Why do we need so much nuclear testing? I understand the need for some, but why do the Americans need to set off over a thousand? And presumably more. Im just glad that it seems to have calmed down the past 20 years or so. It just seems to be a way to show off a country's prowess. What is the best deterrent for someone nuking you? Have nukes of your own.

Also the cause of cancer it may not be, but nobody can tell me that it isn't having some sort of adverse affect on our planet. You only have to look to space to see the power that radiation holds, it can destroy planets, it can also last for a really, really long time.

I do think that nuclear fusion holds the key to a lot of our planets energy problems, but it also posses a massive risk. Can you imagine if someone with the mind set of a terrorist could get hold of something like this. Let's be honest the information is all there, you just need someplace big enough to put the information to use.

It's not just the immediate blast that's frightening, what if someone detonated one about a mile above the U.K. That's an EMP right there, no power and depending on the height and intensity of the blast, that could wipe out the entire country's power grid.

So in conclusion, nuclear power is a power that should only be held by people who respect it for what it is. A tool to help the human race, because if someone had the inclination, opportunity, and the money it could change everything for everyone in a very bad way.

And we need them for when the aliens invade... or a huge asteroid is flying towards us. I've seen the films.

Baker Test, from Operation Crossroads

This has always been the most striking depiction of nuclear explosions for me. It's also incredibly detailed if you zoom in.

So it was the nuclear explosion that gave Mo Farah his superpowers.

It all makes sense now...
