It’s not sad. It’s the way the physics have always been. I’ve had battles from getting my wins to finishing last. The penalties didn’t bother me as much as the physics. These cars don’t stop on a dime and not just the divebombing, but people’s race craft, with certain cars. That's just sad though. Like, not to insult you personally, but for me you are giving up a whole element of racing - defensive driving to keep a quicker car behind. The reason I've always enjoyed Daily Race C the most is because it opens up strategic options, and that may involve getting ahead by running an aggressive first stint and then driving defensively after the stops to the end. And even in shorter races, such situations will always happen here and there. We might as well do time trials if we're not going to race wheel-to-wheel. I would prefer the penalty system of old, and of course any revisions that might upgrade it, over having to hop out of the way to protect myself and give up on proper racing.
As in, when going side by side. I’m in a RWD car, the player next to me is in a FWD. What’s going to happen when we both accelerate? The player with the Fwd will no doubt mash the accelerator for understeer. Doesn’t even have to be a dirty player, but if I’m on the outside leaving room, that player is not getting off the throttle. Happened plenty of times.
I’ve made mistakes and again, it’s not just that. Why fight when you know cars behind will catch up? I’m not saying every race is a boo hoo. I‘m Saying those moments when players don’t understand the lesser of two evils, you win some you lose some, pick your battles, etc.
I’ve raced players that also yielded position to me, so we would not lose time to cars behind or ahead. Actually happened in the Gr.3 Suzuka race last weekend. After I pitted, a car I was catching, yielded position. He was in the DBR9 that was faster on the straights and gave me a bump draft instead of passing me. Players like that, understand that part of picking battles.
Gain, that’s part of the racing etiQuetta I’ve learned over the years. Ive mentioned before, some people watch European racing and even Japan series and see racers swerving and blocking and diving for gaps. Over 4-5 lap races, there’s going to be that. In longer races, it’s too much of a risk. Like this race below.
Was having a clean battle. My tyres are clearly worn, but the car still felt balanced. The M4 was coming and I didn’t want to fight the Slophy. Trying to pass before the 130R would have caused too much problems. M4 goes by and I knew what was going to happen and sure enough did. Seen it all too often.
Here’s an old race, when I know who I’m racing(I’ve raced the players driving the two M4s and the WRX, countless times), I’ll be patient and have a go, when the opportunity is there.
