Expected sales of GT5

How many copies could GT5 sell worldwide ?

Went in Game in Cardiff at lunchtime. No sign of GT5 anywhere...

All the pre-order boxes had been taken off the shelves. No posters / ads.

Promo stuff was all still for Black Ops.

WRONG, when Gt came out on Ps2 the install base was only around 70-80 mill. GT always sells, and history has shown install base will not change that, Gt5 will easily sell truck loads, as all others have.

That's still double the current PS3 install base - and to say that the number of PS3s in circulation wont affect the number of GT5 sales is, well, laughable.

I agree that GT5 should have legs - provided PD / Sony don't drop GT6 on us in 12 months time.

Most of these estimates clearly fly in the face of the fact that there are much less PS3 consoles out there. I have come to the conclusion that this site is not a good place to get any kind of realistic info about something like this.

PD and Sony have some rabbid fanboys here, sorry to say.

Again, history of big name system sellers show the install base as long as its decent does not factor in that much. Anyone with any interest in Gt5 would have gotten a PS3 by now, and it will sell slowly over a few years. Halo 3 sold just as much as the others with a much smaller install base. Prologue sold 5 mill and it was a demo on a very small install base. Analyst have also predicted huge sales. Its going to sell.

But with an install base that is so radically different, it's bound to have an impact.

I don't see GT5 coming close to GT3. That being said, I really don't care. I'll be enjoying it regardless. :)

Some game companies just to seel 1-2 million consider it very successful.
But GT5 is a HUGE title, they at least need 8+

Sony hasn't sold nearly as many PS3 systems because of such high competition with Microsoft. I'm going to put my total sales number between 6 and 7 million copies.

PS2 sales approx 147 million
PS3 sales approx 42 million

Says it all, really.
I'm not sure what you're trying to say, really. Those numbers are apples and Supras. ;)

PS2 sales approx 147 million (after 10 years)
PS3 sales approx 42 million (after four years)
See a sliiight difference there? In fact, the PS3 is tracking close to PS2 sales in the same period of time. And you might also recall that SONY is the only game company that supports and produces their systems for more than seven years. Some kill theirs off after four or five. In fact, the PS1 wasn't just supported for a decade, it was in production for 11 years. Notice that after 10 years, PS2 is still in production, and games are coming out for it. The market is still substantial.

For that matter, since the PS3 is an HD Blu-ray playing system capable of 3D, I expect it to be in production for far more than 10 years.

I agree with the two posters below, with a caveat.

1 Week - 2,275,000
USA - 600,000
EMEAA - 1,200,000
Japan - 475,000

1 Month - 4,000,000
USA - 1,000,000
EMEAA - 2,300,000
Japan - 700,000

Life-Time - 9,500,000
Mmm, hotcakes. Anyways, about GT5. I think the game is going to sell more than any previous GT game because it has something that none of the other main GT games has had. That would be the online multiplayer and community aspects. The ability to race with other people over the internet seems like it will be a major draw what with how popular online games are these days. My professional(unprofessional) estimate for GT5 sales is anywhere between 10 and 14 million. :sly:
I go along with this, depending on when GT6 is released, and if it's on PS4. If GT6 is out in four years or more, and on PS4, I expect sales of GT5 to be in the vicinity of 14 million.

I see the novelty in this but what's the real point other than a mines bigger than yours contest?
Something fun to discuss, Dev. This is a... what is it? A chat board? ;)

BTW as for PDs sales page, isn't that number PD has shipped (ie sold to retailers) and thus includes all copies still sitting on shelves somewhere?
Gee, I forgot no one else counts sales like this - oh wait, they do. :D

While i wish GT5 will be the best selling GT ever , i doubt it will happen .
Simply because not as many people own a ps3 compared to ps2 consoles back in the day of GT3 .

Grtz , Horch

The PS3 is about twice the userbase that the PS2 had when GT3 launched.

I see an opportunity for some troll science here.

Copies sold (millions):

Gran Turismo 4 "Prologue": 1.36
Gran Turismo 4: 10.58

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: 3.99
Therefore, Gran Turismo 5: 3.99*(10.58/1.36) = 31.04 million forecasted sales (biggest-selling racing game of all time).

Problem, VGChartz? :sly:

GT5 will not go over 7 million sales, A lot of the people who had PS2s now have Xbox 360s, So you have to half the sales on the PS3.

I'm going with 4-5 million.

It will be higher than Modern Warfare 3 :)

We dug up a 2 year old thread, to speculate about statistics given around the same time?

Why? What purpose does this serve?

Honestly, the numbers are somewhat disappointing for GT5.
Not many saw that coming when you look at it.

I'd call them par, but it still doesn't answer my question.

7.4 as of December of last year, which was before XL came out.

Not GT4 level, and it is very unlikely at this point that they ever will be, but not really indicative of anything by itself.

Not any GT level, really. It's the poorest selling full-numbered GT game. Of course, there could be many reasons for that, but numbers are numbers. We are strictly speaking of sales figures. 7.4 MIL is lower than all the previous full-numbered titles.

GT6 will be very interesting to follow.

LOL, lowest selling game, because the world got tired of getting fed crappy Japanese econoboxes.
Somebody had it in their quote "collecting paint chips, hunting for used cars", besides the x2011 PD didn't bring anything new to the table, why should they outsell anything? The don't deserve it and ratings for this game are 100% true (except for ones that gave it a 9 or 10 (lol, anyone remember this game at release? Boring and repitive garbage until the updates).

FWIW, I bought TWO copies of this game, but thanks to PD and Sony my money went to the other team and I honestly couldn't be any happier.

I would like to see all the Gran Turismo's at around 18 months after release date.

It will not be as bad as the naysayers in this thread indicate.

Numbers are numbers afterall.
