F1:CE "Driver Diaries": The 2006 Season

Might join you next season with the 2007 GP4 mod, assuming I finally learn how to survive 12 laps without locking my rears and meeting the wall, and, of course, the great modders finally get around to making a decent F2007 and TF107, along with a performance-set.

Bummer... OK Appie... now you have to make a career F1 diary. ;)

Actually I was considering such a thing as I just begun my 1st career on Hard last week. However I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to match the entertaining wit and writing style of TM, not to mention my summer work siesta is finally coming to a close.

But to comment a wee-bit, man I thought Medium was intense. Heck just the initial try outs in hard make you want to regurgitate. My 1st attempt at the 3 trials faired quite poorly, 2 were at Catalunya (a track I am still woefully off the pace at) with the first in wet conditions. So in the Super Auguri on intermediates I think my best lap was still some 2 seconds off the goal time, which = abysmal failure. Then in the MF1 on a dry track my best time still a good half a second slow, which = just slightly better than abysmal failure. And then finally the final Torro Rosso trial at Magny only netted me a test driver offer. Well after 2 seasons of beginning as a test hack in Medium I politely declined that offer, which is to say I simply began another career.

This 2nd time around my MF1 trial was Magny, in dry conditions and was of the 3 lap cumulative variety. I don't know if it was luck or the amphetamines I plopped into my morning coffee, but I laced together 3 back-to-back-to-back laps in the mid 1'16"s to bust the target time by more than 2 seconds. Although individually this lap time was not appreciably improved over my Torro Rosso time from the prior attempt, I'm guessing ('cause I'm still not sure how they figure the calculation) that it was my consistency that resulted in my being offered the 1st seat on the team. An offer I gleefully accepted BTW :)

Anyhoo if anyone finds this nominally interesting and/or informative let me know and I might give it a shot for the remainder of the season. I could also post my final setups for each track just as an FYI/starting point for the possible benefit of others.

Regardless thanks to TM for a great Diary in concept and execution.👍
+Rep as well naturally.

Thanks alot, I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the write-ups. I totally agree that Medium is easily hard enough to be going on with, but especially when you're trying to do a 'real' season in the same, inferior car like the Super Aguri!! Would be great to see more write-ups, esp. of any real 'Championships' that folks might be doing on-line...

Just wanted to bump this thread real quick for some of the newer forum visitors who may have missed it. One brilliant, and , read.

👍 Thanks icelt, I had alot of fun making the posts, and it certainly added a whole new dimension to my game experience!. I'm glad you enjoyed the thread, too. Sadly, I don't have the time to do another full season, let alone write it up in this fashion, but I wish I had... Would have been great re-doing the 2007 season, with all the associated shenanigans. Perhaps whoever is working on the latest version of the F1 series for PS3 might add some novel quirks to the game, like being able to adjust the amount of surfactant to add to Kimi's petrol tank, or the ability to adjust the amount of "scowl" on Fernando Alonso's face during qualifying!

Yeah it must have been some major effort to put this all together. Very impressed to be honest.

Man you've got to send those ideas in. Those would be some friggin' hilarious easter eggs at least. Besides you never know, someone actually green lighted the whole "f with mario's face" in SM64 right?

If anyones interested I was considering doing a complete season with one car in a few weeks after my Exams. Would anybody be interested if I started a thread similar to this to follow the season, maybe Touring Mars could put his spin on the results and post summaries of the races because I know I wont be able to do as well as him. If people are interested I will post a poll as well to decide the car I should use.

My contacts within the world of F1 were able to get me this exclusive extract from Bernie Ecclestone's forthcoming autobiography, "Bernie: The Only Way Is Up (When You're 5'2")", which sees the F1 supremo reflect upon a tumultous year, and discuss his plans for the future of the sport...

Excerpt from The Only Way Is Up (Chapter 8 - Medallion Man)
After many years of successfully steering the sport in the right direction, things started to go a bit pear-shaped in 2008, when it became apparent that the World Championship could be won by someone finishing fifth in a race, and the race winner loses out. I thought to myself, "This is ridiculous! We engineered the season to finish on the final race, and still the loser wins!" So I called my mate Max at the FIA and asked him for his opinion on my new idea - medals! He said he liked the idea, and invited me round to his place to discuss the plan over some Metaxa and coconut macaroons. At this point I remembered that the latter is infact an old Mosley-clan euphamism for something completely different, so I politely refused. Instead, we decided to meet up at the Aberdeen Angus Steakhouse in Piccadilly (I love that place!) and we gathered up some of the key people in making these decisions: Mikey (Schumacher), Luca, Stefano, Kimi, Felipe, Felipe's Dad - you get the picture, and they all said it was a fab idea. A few of the circuit owners had a few questions, which I was only too glad to answer (see caption):

"Medals go here!"

Anyway, everything seemed to go fine, we had a very pleasant evening and I got the phone number of the waitress at the Aberdeen Angus Steakhouse, while Max disappeared off with a couple of ladies who appeared to be having a little trouble sitting down for some reason. The rest of us went next door to the Trocadero to play some arcade games - Kimi and Felipe headed straight for the F1 simulator  but to our horror surprise, the boys from McLaren were already there...! They claimed they were having a "lad's night out", but I think they were just following us. (The fact that Ron had barbecue sauce all down his shirt seemed to suggest they'd been at the Steakhouse aswell!) Anyhoo, I thought we could have a bit of fun, and so Felipe and Lewis had a race, and I told them that whichever team won would have my express permission to not go to Max's Christmas party - a generous prize, even if I do say so myself!. To make things a bit of a larf, however, I asked Felipe and Lewis to swap cars at the last minute so that Lewis was in a Ferrari and Felipe was in a McLaren! Unfortunately, this totally back-fired, because when Lewis won in the Ferrari, everyone thought that Felipe had won

Franco (who had his red balaclava on during dinner, on account of his chronic dandruff)
telling the Ferrari guys that Lewis and Felipe had actually swapped seats immediately before the race on the F1 simulator

If you want to read the rest, you will need to buy the book (if it weren't entirely ficticious, which it is.. obviously) :D

I can see a point or two coming out of yesterday's convo.. Doesn't look like you've been working much, eh? ;)

Touring Mars - because GTPlanet needs a Douglas Adams.
