F1 through the streets of London!!

It was anounced at Monaco that F1 cars will 'parade' down Regents Street London on the 6th of July this year 6-8pm!!

Woo hoo ''Roll out the Barrichello''

Dont know which teams will be there should be cool though.:)

The top 6 teams will be represented and possibly the top 8, depending on what Bernie manages to pull off,

The real issue is that street racing is the b0110cks and we want a London GP. Hopefuly Bernie will buy off the Queen or something and we'll get what we want...

The locals would love that; shutting off central London for a week or so. Great for me though; a possible track layout would be accross the river from London Waterloo station, an hour's train ride from my house. Excellent.

Won't happen though. Meh

sterrt races are awesome. no better way to proove a drivers skill. plus, if there is a street race, london will be ROCKIN' all week. just like the surfers street race PARTY.

the track roo has made up looks good, long straioght, not tight and right past buckingham palace. that will sure as hell scare the **** out of the queen. and that tight section neat the national gallery looks fun.

bring on the london street race!!!

To anyone who will be there to watch it.You better bring some earplugs cause you will definetly need them. Those thing are loud as hell, been to the Barcelona GP last year so i would know.Seriously.

GTChamp2003: espically with the sound rebounding off the walls. I was standing behind a Footwork at Thurxton about 5 years ago when it was started up. People had to shout at me for me to hear anything for a couple of minutes. You don't hear a Formula 1 car, so much as feel it.

Closing down a major capital city for 3 days for an F1 race yeh I can see that happening.

Rumours of a London GP have been going round for years since autosport magazine ran an April fools story a few years back about the race.

Yehh I cant wait to hear the V10 sound riccocheting of the buildings:mischievous: , the loudest cars I can remember were the last of the Ferrari F1 V12s in the 95 season I cant explain the noise it actually hurt my ears!!! OWWW the Mclaren F1 GT cars were bloody loud too.:D :D

(Roll on GT4)

The loudest sound I have ever witnessed defo. Nothing can compare to a full bore start of an F1 race and I mean stuff like loud sound systems, being at an airshow close to fighter jets etc...

By shape alone, it wouldn't look like too bad a "race" circuit. Excpet those two tight turns by the Marble Arch, it would make for a street circuit that has all the necessary ingredients: multiple ess-curves, a straight with a fast kink, a couple of varying-radius corners, and a slow-speed ess followed by a long straight.

Aw, crap...looks like the flights of Roo's fancy, not a real layout. Nice design, though!

They should have a full blown race through the streets of london. and why are you a rubens fan??

Not really ''roll out the barrel'' is and old cockernee song just trying to be funny :guilty:

More details are now being released apparently there will be some kind of circuit set up :) check with the ITV/F1 website for more details. There are also rumours now circulating of a London GP proper, the Mayor (red) Ken Livingstone is said to have said that is logisticly possible. Who knows? There spending £5billion pounds if they get the Olympics so why not F1? Would cost a lot less and F1 is annual rather than once in a life time like the Olympics 💡 .

Anyway next week I am there :D .

Speaking of this Regent Street event, would anyone of you folks in the UK be willing to capture the TV broadcast of this event for those of us who are not in the UK? :D

once in a life time like the Olympics

Tell that to Athens :D

I think it'd be interesting to have another street circuit on the map but wouldn't they have to resurface a rather important chunk of London?

London will bid for a Formula One street-race.

City mayor Ken Livingstone told the Evening Standard on the eve of a novel 'F1 Comes to Regent Street' parade that he 'definitely' backs a London Grand Prix.

'We [need to think about] routes and costs,' he tempered.

Ken said London's economy and tourism industry would benefit 'significantly.'

He confirmed early discussions with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone while the parade's promoter Harvey Goldsmith insists a Monaco-like race can be achieved.

'If they can do it on the streets of Adelaide (Australia),' he said - while admitting a big movement of opposition - 'I don't see why we can't ... here.'

"We costs and routes", what the hell kind of comment is that? He just forgot all those important words in the middle eh?

I like Silverstone so I'll be sorry to see it go, but if it must, an exciting street race would be nice - but if it just winds up as procession city, then no thanks. Sadly that's probably not going to be anything a track can change.

Went up there today, saw bugger all so I came home again on the 6.21 train out of London Waterloo. I glimpsed the road once. Other that that, unless you were at the front or perched on top of a phone box, nothing. The crowd were five deep at the thinnest, and that was an hour before they were due to start.

Whats wrong with Silverstone?

I think another street circuit is a backwards step for F1. Who wants yet more processional racing in F1? At least Monaco has great history, great waterfront views and a lot of track elevations etc. London is a concrete nightmare and very flat, let alone the fact that when all the roads are open its almost impossible to get around - and they say Silverstone is difficult to get in and out of!

As for yesterdays 'streets of London' taster - I want to see F1 cars driving on the limit - not doing burnouts and donuts - if i wanted to see burnouts and donuts i'd go doen to my local supermarket car park and watch all the 'riced' Novas and Calibras.

Some of the people who went probably wont have ever seen an F1 car let alone see one doing a burnout etc ....

I know that you can go see 205 gti's and Nova's etc nobbing about in their cars at the local cruise but the F1 event, I think was a really good idea. 👍

London would have to do what they do in the other major cities that host races (i.e. Melbourne, Montreal), and use the mass-transit system to get people from outer-city car parks to the track. It would be well do-able.

The Monaco race is processional because the streets are so narrow, and because there aren't really any actual overtaking places. From the looks of the proposed circuit diagram, the London course would have those overtaking places. There are plenty of street courses around the world, and plenty of overtaking on them, it's just Monaco that is processional.

Yes but i'm sure melbourne and montreal have good transport infrostructure in the first place - have you ever tried travelling around london?

melbourne and montreal's tracks are situated in parks, not bang in the centre of the city (i belive)

Pau and Macau's races can be pretty processional. Melbourne and Montreal also have plenty of run-off areas which London will not have.

Indeed. I've been to London 20 or so times, and have travelled around by bus, car, taxi and tube. And at pretty much all times of the day. I'm fairly familiar with it.

I have also been to the Montreal and Melbourne races. Both have only one means of getting to them - by metro (Montreal) or by tram (Melbourne). Both are efficient, but you have to ensure that you don't travel at the circuit's peak times, or you will have a long wait and be very cramped. This is also the case at Barcelona, where I endured a 40 minute train ride in what can only be described as a crush.

A London GP would be able to lay the track out across multiple tube lines, giving multiple points of access. Each would then provide a service pulling in punters from outskirts parking areas, and you'd have multiple points of entry.

But ultimately, Wembley Stadium had a capacity of 75,000, which is probably 60% of the requirement for F1, and in a much more concentrated area.

Melbourne's mass-transit system is generally excellent though. Much better than London's.

 Yeh I stuck it out untill after the 2nd car (Toyota) then my wife kind of got a little claustrophopbic :scared: .
Aparently 500,000 people turned up though who says F1 is in crisis and nobodys interested in it anymore :). We left early going to Silverstone on Sunday anyway but it was pretty impresive as for a London GP the mayor does realise he's being used by Bernie to needle Silverstone and the BRDC?? You cannot compare Monaco to London for a start Monaco have been running there GP since errr the 20s? secondly in Monaco you dont just turn up and watch you have to pay even to stand on the cliffs overlooking the circuit (grandstand tickets are way more pricey than silverstone) also London does have more transport links but it would be predictabley chaotic. I prefer Silverstone 👍

It was free though - it's sad the turnout will be 1/8th that for Silverstone. Still, half a million people is great, anything to boost exposure is always good. I agree that most people have no idea what a Formula 1 car is, so just to see one would be pretty cool... Hell, I'd be happy just to see Luca Badoer idle by at 5km/h in the F2004...

London... eh, hard call for a circuit. I like Silverstone, I'd rather it stay, but Bernie's having a ***** as usual. I have to go review the proposed circuit map because I'm curious where they could cram pits, grandstands and run off area into central London. Melbourne and Montreal do indeed take place in parks where space is far more easily found, Adelaide was pretty cramped though but still a dedicated racetrack for the most part (in terms of pit complex etc, some were normal roads). Central London really would be a logistical nightmare from a number of perspectives.
