Failed to Connect to Host down to 1st Gen PS3??

Type 3 means that you don't have UPnP enabled on your router and ps3. If you know what model your router is you can google it or look through the manual to see how to enable it.

I just checked my PS3 "Connection Settings" and it shows UPnP as Enabled. Also, when I hardwire directly to the modem (no router involved) it still shows as NAT Type 3.

I also have friends with differing NAT Types and they are also experiencing the same "Fail to Connect to Host" issues ?

For your NAT Type to change you will have to contact your ISP and ask them to switch it to NAT Type 2. NAT Type 3 sends through fragmented data which has no continuity forcing you to be signed out, or Error Connecting to host. But the Error Connections happen to everyone from whats been happening over the months.

I'm Using a T-mobile USB dongle that is fixed on Nat Type 3 with no UPNP enabled on the PS3. But lately I've been able to connect more often and somtimes always connect. I have called T-Mobile and asked them if they could switch it but they said it does not support UPNP and they cant change anything. So I have the fragmented problem with some games when I go Online but I get to play online and I connect. Some days its not so good but other days its like there was never a problem.

Dont get me wrong, soon I'll be connecting continuously with Nat Type 2!!

Sometimes I get the FTC til I have to quit from frustration ,other times I will get into 99% of the races I enter. I have the 40g unit bought in May 2008. As for Nat type. When first coming online I have Nat 2,but,if I quit by unplugging the cable from the router,it will come back at Nat 3. I have to quit the game and startover to get back to Nat 2.

I am on Time-Warner cable . I don't have the fastest speed they have available . When I am the host it is usually just 3 cars total ,never has been more and it seldom happens anyway. I have checked my speed online . It shows download at 6.8Mbps and upload at 313.7Kbps. Does someone know if these speeds are slow ,moderate or fast?

I'm in a subdivision and have checked my online speed at different times of day. When the parents get home from work and the kids get home from school I have seen my speed drop as much as 60% from what it is at 2am. There is also a computer wired and a computer on wireless in addition to the PS3 on this router in the house. I have run GT5P online during all different times of day and can see no pattern where the FTC is more likely to happen. I've had major problems at 3am during the week with the wife and kids and neighbors all tucked away in bed and run all day during the sunlit hours of the day on a rainy cold day with both computers in the house running and assuming the neighbors running their computers slowing the whole system down and had virtually no problems with with FTC.

I've noticed also in the last week or so there has been a big increase in network errors and I have been disconnected from the network. I say big increase because this used to happen maybe once every 6 to 8 weeks or less. But in the last week it has happened 6 times. and 4 of those times in one day just 2 days ago. Nothing has changed in my situation . From what I can tell from my own experience and from reading about others, the problem is totally in the network.

Though the old way of connecting caused a race to end when the host quit , it also had a big problem with lag ( I believe is what it is called),sometimes it was hard to tell where some of the cars actually were on the track as they seemed to be everywhere at once. This is seldom seen now. Don't think I would care for that again.

After port forwarding it was alot quicker and had a better success rate. May be coincidence but worth a go if you can.

I have Time Warner also and was told all ports are open by default. My speeds are 20.76Mbps down and .98Mbps up. That's for regular service here in NY but I think they also provide an economical connection called "Lite" which sounds like the one you have.

I have a 60GB launch and picked up a Slim last week. I see no difference as I'm still getting "FTC" as much with the Slim as I did with the older model. No doubt Sony did something a few months back that made matching less reliable but good luck with trying to get them to acknowledge it. :banghead:

I'm very far from being a techno. What is port forwarding and how is it done ?

...Larry

Sorry I'm going to be an arsehole here and just say google it.

Basically it allows for incoming connections more easily. If you find out your router model and google port forwarding there will be a guide specfic for your router.

I'm not at home right now but on the site I used it had an option for GT5p ports and it automatically told you which ports needed to be forwarded.

As a former member of a racing team, we used to have team meetings using the basic "chat" feature in the standard PS main menu. I seem to remember 6 or 8 people being able to gather in a "conference call" environment. When I configured my system with the Port Forwarding as Sony directed, it totally eliminated my ability to join my team mates in these chat rooms. As soon as I set it back to an open environment, I could once again get into the chat rooms as I had been. It also had no effect in improving my ability to connect to the host.

Sony - Are you listening ?

The Sony PS Forum has an extensive thread(s) documenting the problem. This site has at least 3 threads addressing this issue. It affects a large number of people. Many, such as myself have simply had to stop playing Prologue. The rest of the die-hards who continue to play all express their frustration with the situation.

I have to ask .....

1) Why has Sony and PD not responded at all. No information, no communication and no effort to acknowlege the problem, let alone fix it.

I'm sure they know exactly what is going on since they caused the problem when they reprogrammed the online matching to the type where the host migrates to another player should the initial host quit the game.

Many of us have been loyal Sony customers for (in my case) decades. We deserve better service than this :ouch:

I know this is a to-be-dying thread. But here it goes.

It may be crazy, but i only manage to get successful matches while playing with Honda Integra.

You may need to check the times that you are loggin on to race. Fuji 550pp is a World Event so that anyone at any time can Race each other around the world.

I now have a proper Broadband Connection but still get FTC sometimes. If you message a friend and open a live chat with them, start a race at the same time you may have more success connecting with them in other Race Events.

Probably not much help, but I have 40GB(2nd gen?) PS3 and I had lots of FTCs too, but then the other day it just works fine again, so I don't think it has something to do with the model.

It can't be the model being the problem. I have a 120GB slim that is less than a year old, and I get FTCs all the time. Some nights are worse than others, but overall it's pretty random so I think it is a problem on PD's end.
