After the Vision GT announcement, what are your thoughts on the inclusion of more fake cars in the series?

The Playstation Blog states "Polyphony Digital will release the cars from 2013 to 2014 as gifted downloadable content (DLC) to owners of Gran Turismo 6 through online update" so I guess price isn't in issue, but, as always, it takes time to design/model these fake cars and as they say, time is money.

Personally, who would want real cars when you get to drive the Mr. Garrison designed, JORDAN badged, "IT"....

If there are not too much of them yes. I really like such visionary designs :)

But i definitely don't like to have 100+ of them, GT6 isn't a fantasy racer :D

Totally with it why not
if we get a concept car every month for free nothing to dislike about it

I know in past GT games the race cars designed for GT all raced in the Dream Car Championship. I think these concept cars might also be considered "Dream Cars".

That being said, i think i'd like to see some more Dream Cars from different manufacturers like Lexus and Nissan.

I'm neutral about them. At least they are not X1's and hopefully they will drive more like "normal" cars.

Except it means the car modellers are spending time on these when they could be modelling real cars instead.

I like the inclusion of unique concept cars, they can be very interesting if made correctly.

Except for the fact it takes time away from Polyphony modeling other things (real cars, tracks, livery editor) but yeah, nothing to dislike at all.

We all thought the GTbyCitroen was a fake car and look where those assumptions got us.

Me thinks you are jumping the shark a bit, machschnel.

Also Polyphony getting in deep cahoots with the design departments of genuine car companies is a sign that they will have access to cars we couldn't even dream of. Cars like the BMW M8 that has been mothballed in BMW's warehouses for decades. All Vision GT does is tell me that the relationship between Gran Turismo and the car brands is deep enough where Polyphony is a useful entity for car companies. HOW COULD THAT BE A BAD THING?

These people know who Yamauchi is. These are very powerful people who can pull strings we couldn't have even dreamed of. Think of all the access the Gran Turismo team will get after this.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design
“Gran Turismo and BMW share the mutual genes of enthusiasm for modern and classics cars. I have known the Gran Turismo series right from the beginning – the increased level of realism in visualisation and the authentic driving experience in Gran Turismo 6 is incredibly impressive.”

Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Brand Communication BMW
“Vision Gran Turismo is a very creative opportunity to present our BMW Design vision, which we developed exclusively for this game, in an innovative way. We are very excited and looking forward to the feedback of the global community. It’s our way of congratulating Polyphony and Sony for the 15th Anniversary of the Gran Turismo franchise!”

Lüder Fromm, Head of Global Marketing Communications, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars
“Video games are perfectly suited to precisely addressing young, modern target groups on an emotional level. Gran Turismo 6, with its uncontested reputation as setting the benchmark in the racing-games genre, provides the perfect platform for creating an interactive experience with a new, visionary concept for a Mercedes-Benz’s super sports car. We are certain that the concept vehicle will inspire millions of gamers and Gran Turismo fans worldwide.”

Klaus Bischoff, Director, Volkswagen Design
"The Vision GT project offers a great opportunity to flesh out extreme ideas and portray the Volkswagen GTI’s design elements as vividly, dynamically and emotionally as possible. The further development of an unmistakable design and loving attention to detail reflect the high standards shared by the Volkswagen GTI product brand and Gran Turismo by Sony PlayStation. We look forward to creating a vehicle that gamers can use to gain unrivalled virtual experiences of the GTI world."

I'll put my money where my mouth is - Less than 10% of all fake cars will ever reach "production". Care to do the same?

Except it means the car modellers are spending time on these when they could be modelling real cars instead.

They're a push from the respective creator or owner of these cars, more marketing ploy. Which isn't bad if car manufacturers are using GT for advertising their future products in a way.

Voted neutral. I don't mind the inclusion of exclusive concept cars as long as they perform realistically. Something like the GTbyCitroen is acceptable, more X2010s are not.

I think that, as long as those cars could be built and be functional (i.e. realistic concept), I don't see why they shouldn't be included. However, if they plan on adding cars like the Nike 2022 from GT4, then I'd prefer they be left out of the game. Gran Turismo is about realism and it is not Wipeout. Fantasy vehicles that can't be achieved through current technology should remain omitted until a functional version can be created in the real world.

Since when concept means fake?

I agree. The path this forum is taking lately is becoming somewhat uncomfortable.

Sometimes I feel like I am on GameFAQ and not on the world's biggest GT community where supposedly there are people that shares the passion for GT series, automotive industry, history and love for cars.

I don't know, maybe I am getting too old for this.

Its likely that the GameFAQers have found GTPlanet.

I'm feeling the same.

But to contribute to thread properly - I like design studies. It's a video game to point out - I also like to see "concepts" or design studies along side with current market cars. Was it a waste of time years ago when Polyphony Digital included the first phase of 350Z & RX8 concepts? They weren't entirely "real" at the time either.

Although i'm confused about all this "taking time away to do other things" logic.

True car lovers (not gamers) actually love concepts. It's a trip to the future today and if they aren't massively produced then it's nice to imagine that, dreaming of what the future could bring. That is the reason why this franchise features them: expanding the possibilities further than real life itself, just like the game makes possible to drive million dollar cars at 200mph on a city.

On a side note, GTP will always have troubles with new users and complainers precisely because it started as a videogame website. Videogamers are not necessarily car enthusiasts, lots of them are underaged and are characterized by complaining about everything and more.

The fact your calling concept cars fake says alot about your opinion on whether they should or shouldn't be in the game. lol.Concept cars play a major role in car production and manufacturing history, so with that said I welcome them.As long as they aren't x2010 fast.If the x2010 had the speed and characteristics of a normal race car I wouldn't have any problems with it.

A "fake" race car version of a production is very different from a "fake" car from the ground up. The former is swapping in original parts, a body kit and upgrades, and creating something that could be done in real life and be on the track. The latter is something more unique but also something from the ground up that has no grounding in reality.

I don't mind "fake" single-seater race cars like the Formula GT, but I'm not a fan of over-the-top nowhere-near-production-ready kitschy looking things that will never have any real world counterparts (with running gear).

These "fakes" are made by the actual companies, therefore are more a lot more "real" than if they were to be made by PD, like the Formula GT.

These concepts are real concepts, PD's arent, and are a lot closer to being produced than the later. Even if these concepts don't make it they still were made by the companies behind them, so they represent each brand just like specific cars do and the ideas will still be on their minds.

Some people call the X2010 an abomination: I love that it exists because it shows what F1 could be, shown by some of the most important F1 engineers in history.

To be honest, it's a car that is very capable with the technology present and also if money isn't exactly existent... and if the human body doesn't have any limits. It demonstrates a idea. It's a carnuts mad scientist dream. A "normal" race car as a individual identity is also heavily weighted down by set regulations and costs.

I love the X2010/X2011 for what it is. I don't drive it in game because simply, too old for that. I do not have the concentration. I'm just glad it exists however.

^The human body can resist those lateral G forces, especially if using real racing tires and not something like the GT5 racing soft tires with SRF, and getting to that level of performance isn't farfetched, technologically and financially. For example the current F1 cars change entirely just by covering the tires, playing with engine mapping and transmission ratios just a bit; costing less than one night of a drivers party.

Simplifying the issue, the reasons why F1 cars aren't like that is to level the field (otherwise Ferrari would destroy everyone once again just by superior funding) and to increase drivers safety (Senna's death changed F1 from the ground up, in some aspects for the better and others for worse).

As others have stated, there is quite a gap between "fake" cars and "concept" cars. I find it very interesting that the GT community could literally be the first to see new car designs. These cars are designed by real car manufactures, so by no means do they qualify as being fake. It's also interesting to see how deep the partnerships between car manufactures and game devs is getting.

Concepts are ok for me, not hyped but doesn't sound too bad either. I would love some sort of F3 / GP3 fictional formula cars.
