First off, let me introduce myself. I am new to the forums, and new to sim racing. I love this forum, and find myself coming here everytime I get on the internet. lol. Very good information.

The only sim racing I have done, and don't know if I would call it that, is Forza Motorsports 3, with a microsoft racing wheel. It did feel much better than the controller, and it was awesome for me, because I have never felt a force feedback wheel. So thats the only experience I have with wheels. I do have a playseat forza 3 edition as well. I love the arcade style racing games, but have always played with a controller.

Anyways. I am, like many others, waiting for the infamous GT5. I will still play arcade style racing games, and some F1. I will only be playing console (ps3). And I wont be playing it for 8 hours a day, but I also want it to be a good build quality, and last a while. So.......I am torn between the carrera, gt3 rs v2, and the logitech g27.

I'm not much into the sequential shifter. H shifter is my prefered thing, then paddles, then sequential.

At first, I was all about the G27. Has everything I wanted, and even is suppose to mate perfectly with my playseat. But I'm sure I can get the rest of the wheels to go onto it. And then the price goes up. Right when I was about to buy on amazon, the price shot up, and I can't find it anywhere cheaper than $270 shipped (don't want to buy used). Then I saw the carrera wheel, and for only $159, plus shipping. I love the look of the shifter, and the click. From my research, I have found that most prefer the fanatec over the logitech, easier to find the gears, and dont mis shift. But I am unsure about the pedals. Which brings me to the GT3 rs v2 with the clubsports. Everything I have read about the wheel and pedals is phenominal. Feels like a real wheel, ff is great, and the pedals are top notch. But does not come with a shifter. Which is what I want. Plus I heard it is so adjustable(the pedals), that it may take a while to get use to. I kind of want something that does not need to be adjusted alot. Plug and play if you will.

So, will I be happy with the standard pedals that come with the carrera(mind you about my only experience with wheels, and just a beginner)? Cause I love the price of the carrera. And it has everything I want. Or would the G27 be better, but a little more money? And finally, Is the gt3 rs v2 worth around $380(price with a shifter added, and shipping)?

Im pretty sure the gt3 is awesome, just dont want to spend too much. I figuered:

Logitech G27: $274 plus $42 for shifter. $316 total
Fanatec Carrera: $179 roughly shipped
Fanatec GT3 RS v2: $380

Anyways, sorry for the long post, just want to post all the info I know.

Would love to hear from owners who have these, or all three. lol.

Thanks for your time.

From your post it seems like you favor Fanatec products more and in particular the carrera. I to am also wanting to purchase a wheel and ive decided already ill be going for the Fanatec turbo S(package) since its the only one that "should be" available here in AUS that i can get ahold of. The carrera wheel is basically the same thing as the Turbo S accord to these guys

I'd get that wheel myself since its a lot cheaper but i doubt it will be available in AUS anytime soon like US/Euro since they more established distributors.

i have no experience with Fanatac wheels, but did recently purchase a logitech G27 and absolutely love the wheel. The G27 is my first force feedback wheel... it really takes the racing experience to a whole new level. I've played GT5p and Need For Speed shift using the wheel, and the performance of both games exceeded my expectations. GT5 is right around the corner, i am sure you would be pleased with any of the wheels you mentioned.

I've got the Carrera and it's great, a very good starter wheel. It has nice FFB, and a very good shifter. I would advise you to get it since your new (like me :) )

I used the code Jordan put on the news page that has since expired, but my total was $225 or so with free shipping for a G27 to my house. Shop around, a deal is waiting for you somewhere. Also, I've used a G25 before this G27 and nothing else... but the Fanatec looks cool for ~$400.

Kasey, All those wheels are great and head and shoulders above the micro soft wheel, I had a couple different logitech wheels and they were good and I still use them.I did however buy the GT3V2 w/ Clubsports and It is amazing and so fun, it was money well spent and I have no regrets. That wheel is so smooth and feels like a real car. It actually is very easy to use. Logan huh...small world! Go Utes!

The truth is you can't go wrong with either one. Each companies' wheels have a unique feel to them. Overall I prefer Fanatec because of bigger and thicker wheel rim and smoother force feedback, but someone else prefers Logitech.
What can I say...listen to your heart, it knows best :D Now how cheesy is that.

Thanks for all the fast responses. Still tryin to decide, but leaning towards the gt3r.

mike46and2. Is your screen name from a tool song? lol. and yes. good ole logan. It was cool to see USU beat BYU finally again.

The Fanatec GT3 RS V2 is best buy you can get. Bit more pricey over G27 if you get it with shifters and ClubSport pedals but you get heck lot of more of a wheel, with more features and options you can tune the wheel to your likings at any time.

By the way TOOL rocks. check out my signature VVVVV

You missed out on the G27. It was in the $200-$220 range for a very long time up until a couple weeks ago.

Yes it went back up as GT5 approached...💡 When demand is more (as people will be looking for good GT5 wheels) and stock is less, bump up the price :)

Tool is my favorite band.

Anyways, back on topic. Anymore carrera owners? If so, how do you like the gear drivin motor in the fanatecs?

NoxNoctis Umbra,

Sweet signature btw

Yes, I did notice the price increase. I have been watching it for a while now. I wanted to buy earlier, but have not had the funds. Sold a couple of things I had around the house, went to order on 10/5, and wow, price shot up. Oh well. Ill keep a look out.

Yeah I invested into a GT3 RS and the ClubSport. Made a stand out of wood(posted in cheap cockpit thread) and I'm loving every bit of it. I'm actally learning how to race with this wheel. With the load cell it feels like an almost match to a real brake(real brakes pressure builds up as you press harder but it does have a similar resistance to a real brake). Gas pedal is very touchy just like in a real car and the clutch has a bit more resistance than the gas pedals. I frankly love it and I'm glad I have it as my first wheel because I want my stuff to be good.

From what I have read from reviews is that the G27 vs the GT3 RS wheel is that the GT3 RS is slightly better but what really takes the cake is the ClubSport pedals. They feel precise and they weigh 11 pounds. That means you don't even need to hard mount the pedals to keep them from moving. I don't know much of the Carrera so I can't give any information about that.

What about doing the carrera, then having the option to ad clubsports later on? Did you watch the inside Sim racing review of the Carrera wheel Kasey? It's a nice wheel, best part is you have that it has most of the features the 911 wheels have other than its gear driven. I think that review is on you tube and itunes.

Yeah the GT3RS Clubsport is definitely worth the money. It's always been my opinion that if you can afford it then it is the wheel to go for.

As for the Clubsport pedals you don't need to change anything as they work straight out of the box very well. The benefit with the adjustments is that if you don't like the setup then you can change it to suit you.

Yeah you can add CSP.

ya, i know the clubsports can be added on, but they are a heafty price. but with the gt3 rs v2, they are only around $140. Plus you get the belt driven, which i am finding out to be better. But i love the price of that carrera.

decisions, decisions. :nervous:

Read the "Another Fanatec Wheel Arrives" thread.. maybe two pages back i wrote my first impressions about the Carrera. And although they may seem negative, things may get a lot better in the near future because i just bought Prologue.. just read and you know why

Hey rash. I did read that, well most of the thread. And I did happen to read your post. Which kinda got me worried. lol. let me know how it goes with gt5p. How is the gear drivin feel for ffb? similar to logitech? How do you have the wheel mounted?

ALSO, has anyone mounted there fanatec to a playseat? Im sure they have, just want some ideas on how i will do it, if i do.

Thanks.

There's certainly nothing wrong with the peddle set that comes with Carrera wheel , it has a clutch and is a good size. Maybe similar to G 27?

Wach this, if you buy the Combo RS V2 + Clubsport, its worth every penny

I'm kind of in a similar situation here. With November creeping up fast I'm looking to get a good wheel for GT5.

I'm stuck between an entry level wheel like the DFGT or something a bit more serious like the Fanatec Carrera. I know the gt25/27 is king but I'm not looking to spend that much.

Anyone have some suggestions? Keep in mind, I've never used a "real" racing wheel before. At this point I've only used cheap walmart wheels that have left me a bit jaded toward wheels in general. Also, I don't even have a proper mounting place for a wheel yet.. ugh!

In terms of quality, the G27 and Fanatec standard pedals are the same. But mind its plastic so doesn't feel as good - but a great set of pedals.

I will try Prologue in a moment :) And the wheel is mounted to ironing board :D I really don´t have much time for building a cockpit

so..............Got the G27. lol.

Electronics expo had it for $216 shipped. Can't beat that. Thanks to barban7 on here. Posted in the 25% off logitech thread. Found a coupon code.
