I saw Brabus is about to beat their own 4-door record.

They're putting the TTv12 in the new E-class and it will have a electronically limited top speed of 340 km/h. That is just crazy.

EDIT: 640 hp and 1.026 nm. It will be built in a small series starting this summer.
 Thats pretty crazy stuff

No four-door car has ever gone faster.

Don't they call it the E73?

I'm guessing you missed this bit then

"PRESS RELEASE April 2002
New World Record for fastest 4-door sedan
KLEEMANN test driver Jason Watt (paralysed from the waist down after tragic motorcycling accident 1999) will be attempting to break the record for the world’s fastest street legal 4-door saloon. A record of 330 km/h currently held by Brabus’ GmbH. Set in 1997 with the Brabus EV12 7,3.

It is a truly awesome experience, witnessing a 1900kg Mercedes Benz E-Class charging at over 300 km/h! At trackside, one is compelled to compare the sight and sound with that of a low flying jet fighter, such is the ferocity of the spectacle!

As the vehicle races past us, the laptop reads:
338 km/h! A New Record!" (Kleeman.com, 04/03)"

338km/h is 210ish mph...

That's true, Alpina is even recognised as a manufacturer in it's own right...

This debate is rooted in a cloud of vaguery. I mean the fastest saloon can be any box on wheels with 4 turbos strapped under the hood. A better debate would be the fastest "production" saloon. Alpina is a fine car - but just try find one.

I mean Bimoto put two engines in a TT and gave it over 700kw. it is faster then a Pagani Zonda in a straight line. Does that make it the fastest sports car in the world? Really, be more specific. this thread should be "fastest car in the world" ;)
